Inexplicable - something unable to be explained or accounted for.

"So. I've been told by you, and by Mercy, that you bought me that plane ticket just to be nice. Why is it that I can't believe that?" I spoke as I kept my eyes on him. I was now at his place, in this old and creepy room. He had told me that this was once his fathers room. He was clearly fond of it, but I found it strange.

"Because you're stubborn." I watched him as he laughed, handing me the glass of whiskey he poured, barely looking at me. He poured himself a cup as I put mine aside.

"I don't believe that's the reason either..." he turned to me and stared. He tilted his head by a centimeter.

"Is it really that hard to believe that I'm nice, Penny?" he shrugged as if he were offended in the slightest. I nodded despite the action.

"You're a billionaire whom seems to get everything he wants. Rich people who live right next to Gotham whom are nice, are also non-existent.  I'm just trying to figure out who you are. Really... How is it possible that the day city hall faces a bombing you and I are just about the only ones who should have died that didn't? " I slowly thought to myself as the words escaped my mouth. I looked at the ground for a second, then looked at him.

He chuckled darkly. His head was tilted to the ground yet he allowed his eyes to peer up at me. At this moment, he didn't look like the billionaire CEO of Lexcorp. He didn't look like Lex Luthor. He didn't even look like a normal human with empathy. In this moment, he looked like a man.

A man who had just committed mass murder.

I was uncomfortable. I flinched as we could hear lighting strike outside.

" I believe it would be best...if I left... " he chuckled as I stood.

" No please, stay. I enjoy your company. I insist. Would you stay if I shared the truth with you? " I nodded. " sit back down. " I obeyed.

" Truth. Now. " I ordered. He exhaled and kept the same, evil looking glare.

" I had decided to go to the bathroom before the trial. Security had just heard of the bomb, and deciding that I was more important than the others, escorted me out. I insisted that the others in the court room should be held equally important yet they didn't listen. I was just lucky that they got me out in time... " I looked away and listened him speak. I was unsure of what to believe. The glare he had been giving me, or the words coming from his mouth. I thought his answer would leave me relieved yet it made me only more uneasy.

" How is that even possible... How could you possibly get away unharmed before the security could alert the other people in the court room? " he looked down at his glass and sighed.

" I barely even know... " he whispered. " kind of like a gift from god right? " he chuckled. " that we both stayed alive? " I sighed and brushed a strand of hair behind my ear. He continued to stare at me. " I think you'd like me if you got to know me Penny... " he mumbled again as I finally made eye contact with him.

" How do you mean? "

" I think you'd like me. I think we'd get along. I mean you're...stubborn. And you're offended easily but you... " he slammed his hand down on the table holding the whiskey. I jumped. " you're fascinating. " I exhaled slowly.

" I don't know about that-- "

" I don't like modesty Penny. Don't be too harsh with yourself. " he slowly shrugged and took a sip of his drink. " Did I startle you by the way? " I quickly nodded.

" In the slightest... " I laughed a little. He gave a small smile.

" My...sincere apologies... " we both could now hear thunder again from outside. He smirked. " jumpy today? " he tilted his head even more.

" I always am. You haven't noticed? "

" I have. I'm actually trying to figure out why... You're not the only one attempting to solve a puzzle... " I looked away.

" I'm just...jumpy... " as he narrowed his eyes at me the rain started to come down harder. I was now more uncomfortable than ever. I slowly looked to him again. We both stared at each other as if we were fighting each other. I stood again. " I believe I should leave. " he rolled his eyes and began to take a few more steps towards me. He set down his glass of whiskey.

I could now smell his cologne as he inched towards me. " and why's that? "

" I'm uncomfortable...and I find the situation we are in right together now unprofessional.  "

" How do you mean? " as he gently brushed his hand against mine I took several steps back. I inhaled and exhaled sharply.

" I understand you would like to be friendly. And I understand you would like to be nice. But I find it unnecessary. I will speak with you again tomorrow... " I turned and walked to the door. He chuckled.

" You're being promoted, by the way. " I stopped in my tracks. I thought for a second. I slowly turned to him.

" What do you mean being I'm being promoted. I didn't go on that flight...Aren't I fired? " he slowly smiled, a proud smirk spread across his face.

" Well...Mercy's gone. That's obvious.  You're my go to. " he slowly walked towards me as I stood frozen. " you're my new assistant. " he smiled and kissed my cheek.
