Revenant - A person who has returned, most of the time from the dead.

Present Day

I flinched as I heard the phone ring. It was raining outside loudly as I sat alone on my bed, still writing and thinking everything over. I answered it almost instantly after I heard it. "Hello?"

"Penny. It's him." I gasped agan and quickly clicked my pen closed and stopped writing.

"You don't mean--"

"Yes. He's a free man now. I saw him just a few moments ago. He's on his way to your house..." My eyes widened. I quickly began to close the windows and lock the doors. I turned back to the phone.

"And you didn't stop him!?"

"What was I supposed to say?!" I sighed and shook my head.

"What are we going to do Oliver...You know if he finds out you're here he'll kill you..."

"I am aware. Thankfully, he didn't recognize me. And I don't know what we're going to do...But all I know is that I have to go now. Everything will be okay alright? Just be safe. I love you Penny..."

"...I love you too. See you soon."I then hung up the phone. I laid back onto the bed and thought to myself. So much had happened since those two months. Everything was changing. Changing too much.

Changing so much that even I barley kept up. With Oliver now back in my life and with Lex now apparently in jail, life was now out of control. I then sat up slowly as I could

I opened the message a few moments later, my hands trembling.

"Seems I've scared you?"

My heart began to race. I began to wonder if it was Lex or not. I knew for a fact that it would be smarter to not reply, but I did anyways.

"Who is this?"

"I came to inform you."

The reply was sent almost instantly. I began to chew on my bottom lip. Then, I was sent a picture. I froze in fear.

It was a picture of Lex, kissing another woman. I was sent another message.

"You hurt me once, now I hurt you." I began to tear up, my body now shaking. I could feel myself crumble slowly.

"I seemed to hurt you pretty bad didn't I?"

I asked the question with the intention of getting this person to tell me what they wanted. I had to know why this person was doing this, emotionally unstable or not. As the next reply sent I could clearly tell this person was angry.

"YOU LET ME DIE YOU BITCH!"

I thought to myself, looking around me. Who could this be, and what did they mean?

"I didn't do anything wrong. I haven't hurt anyone. I would apologize, but I don't even remember hurting anyone..."

I this time had to wait for a response. Then, the response didn't disappoint. It shocked.

"It's Mercy."

I was sent another text.

"You took my place without hesitation, and you didn't bat an eye at the thought of me being dead. Seems you weren't as friendly as you first appeared to be. Now, it's time for you to die."

I bit down on my bottom lip again. Impossible. This all was simply, impossible. Yet somehow it was happening.

What do you mean? I never did that...

I attempted to see if I could outwit this person. And lucky for me, I did to some degree. I got a clue.

Look, Emily, I'm not one to play games. You know what you did and it's time for you to pay. Hell's waiting...

Mercy only called me Penny once before correcting herself. It wasn't really her, was it? That would be impossible. I sent another reply.

I'm not going down yet. Just you see...

I jumped as I could hear someone knock on the door. I got up slowly and walked to the door. My gut told me to not open the door, finding at that moment it really could be anyone. Yet I quickly answered it, swinging the door open. I gasped. There he was.

Lex Luthor, standing in the rain. I immediately looked into his eyes and he stared right back at me. His head was now no longer completely bald, as he now had some hair (yet not a lot) on his head. His face seemed dirty and beaten up yet he showed little to no signs of this. Turns out he had more time to himself than I originally imagined. I blinked a few times to make sure he was really there. He smirked in the slightest. I began to study his face again.

It seemed he was clearly cleaned and shaven before he arrived. He wore black and grey clothes that seemed to be expensive, yet not his usual wear. Lex Luthor was not known to wear a hoodie in this kind of weather. Not to mention he was drenched and without a umbrella. This was also unusual for him but I decided to ignore it. I looked into his eyes and wondered. He seemed to be staring right back at me as I studied him from a few feet away. He took a step forward.

I took a step back almost instantly. He bit on his bottom lip and took another step. I backed up again. I swallowed my pride and spoke. "What are you doing here? When did you get out? How--" I demanded a verbal answer, yet he tilted his head. He gave me a look as if I knew better. I could feel my body shaking again out of fear. I flinched as I could hear lighting strike outside, it began to rain harder. I then looked at him a began to bite down on my bottom lip.

"We are not strangers, not anymore."
