Somewhere in France...

I look outside into the mist of the night....nothing. My window, slightly cracked open, blows a chilling breeze letting me know rain is about to pour. "Loui!", a hard voice screams my name waking me up from my emptiness. "Get your ass on in here!" It's Edmund calling from his drunken slumber. I walk in and the smell of liquor and cigars don't phase me. I'm careful not to step on any of the glass with bare feet, ha... the memory of Ed cutting himself on the bottle of wine was pleasing enough for me to crack a smile for once. Oh the smell of blood hitting air was delicious, watching him groan with anger as the thick fluids of blood came streaming down his hand. "Loui! I'm tired of your shit get over here now!"

I move towards him, lightning strikes off in the distance and rain starts to pitter patter on the roof. "Do you see this" He holds up a leather boot, one he bought recently, and drops it on the stained carpet. "I'm gonna need you to shine this shoe to its original glory... if it comes out the same then....

It better not come the same, and clean up all that damn shit off the floor" I try my best not to roll my eyes at him, but instead my face turns pink and hot. I came close enough to where he was sitting that he could literally pull my hair straight out of my head, I bend over and swipe the shoe from the floor, as I straighten back up his cold dark eyes hit mine making me drop the shoe on to the floor.

His face stretches into a smile. I'm frozen. His veiny hand reaches my neck and pulls me toward him. "I was waiting for you to mess up." The smell of alcohol nearly makes me gag. "For a kid you're not that bad looking...maybe I could-"
The front door opens and both our heads snap towards it. Thank God its Anna, my protector, mother, and the only person who loves me. She rushes over and rips me from his grip, her hair slapping me in the face gets me annoyingly wet.

"What the hell is wrong with you I cant leave you alone with him for two seconds!" She yells.

"Oh shut up with your bitching" He tests.

I was hurt at that comment calling her out of her name...

"Go fuck yourself and get out. NOW." She screams.

"You two are like twins... always doing stupid shit." He stands and reaches in to his faded jeans. My eyes are trained on the door to my freedom with rain and out of this cheap apartment looking bordel. "I think its time for that clean up..." He pulls a pistol out with an arrow engraved on it and points it toward me.

"It's a shame a pretty boy like you has got to die." Anna throws herself on to him as he pulls the trigger. The bullet goes whizzing pass my head into the wall. My life was sitting in his hands and was slapped out by her. "Lou! Run!" I'm hesitant to run but dash out as commanded. I'm running down the stairs and into the rain when I hear nothing but her scream, then three shots, now it's silent. Tears start streaming down my face, unable to make a noise, I continue to run into the night, my only light the moon.

I'm certain she is dead.

Gasps. My eyes shoot open to an unfamiliar place...

"Hel-" I start, but I'm startled by an elderly man

"Oh good youre awake, now I know this may seem scary, you know waking up in a place you've never seen before...Well I'm Jarrett. I'm also sure that you might want to know how you got here, but first I'll let you get dressed, when youre done just come out of your room and go down the hall- that's where I will be."

He leaves the room in a hurry, maybe to tell the others about me. I get up out of the pristine white bed and onto the gray, smooth marble floor. "Wow, I never felt anything like this before." I walk over towards the window revealing a garden of colors and kids, some around my age, some younger than me. I look over at a desk with a mirror, the image in it startled me. Was that me...is that me. My eyes were different from each other one green and one a bright hazel green. My hair was in a comb over, it was dark with light brown highlights. This is the cleanest I've ever been, in I think 12 years of my life.

I put the clothes on left for me.

Black pants, black socks, white shirt, black shoes. Wow what color scheme.

As I slid into my shirt, I could smell such a freshness from this that it was almost sickening.

I head for the door and could faintly hear a scream from behind...those kids, it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

"I know this going to be awkward for you," Jarrett starts, "but this going to your new home..." He stopped just staring at me, like he waiting for me to give some sort of reaction.

I didn't. I just looked at the white painted walls. "Umm, this is going to be your new home until someone comes to adopt you-"

This startled me "As in this is some sort of adoptive home for kids whom parents wish to disown them or simply don't care. Great can I go-"

"Hey, wherever you heard that from it definitely ain't true! We live in a good part of town in Cannes not no motel!" His voice boomed in this small room.

Sigh

This is the place I ended up in.

.....Did he say Cannes?
