Forgetting yesterday

News (Chapter twenty-two)

Chapter twenty-two.

         "I''m going to head to bed" I gently spoke to Nathanial who was still sobbing, "Wait!" he blurted, I then turned to face him, "You're not still angry with me are you?" He questioned, "No not angry Nathanial, just let down" I spoke as I turned my head and walked into the hall and up the stairs.

        The next morning the sun beamed through the crack in the curtain and sparkled on my face, I could hear the birds sing songs of joy, and children playing in the neighbourhood outside. I rolled over to face the clock which was placed on my bedside locker, 11.30 am. I stretched my arms and legs wide making baby dinosaur noises as I did. I placed my small feet on the cold dark teak floor and made my way down the stairs and into the kitchen. I entered to see the most beautiful red roses which had a letter placed next to them, it read;

   These are almost as beautiful as you! xx 

       I smiled as went to fetch a vase for water. I picked up my phone to realize I had a missed call from Niall, I quickly redialed but as I did I felt more vomit creep up my throat I then dropped my phone back on the counter and rushed for the bathroom. I washed my mouth out once I was done and made my way back to my phone, to find Niall was still on the line, "Hello? Hello? Leigh? Are you okay?" I picked up the phone as fast as I could, "Yeah Niall, I'm fine" I giggled down the phone,  "I may have the vomiting bug, I was returning your call when I felt it was necessary to vomit" I remarked slightly sick to the stomach, "Leigh I think you should see a doctor about that" Niall spoke with concern, "I'm fine Niall, honestly it's just a vomiting bug, it's nothing to worry about" I explained, "Leigh I'm on my way over and I'm taking you to the doctors, just to be sure" He demanded. Uh he's concern for me is cute, but sometimes annoying, I thought to myself, "Leigh? Are you there?" Niall asked, "Yeah I'm here" I remarked quietly. "I'll be over in about fifteen minutes, could you be ready to go?" he then questioned, "Yes, I'll be ready" I replied before hanging up.

       "We're here to see Dr. Johnson" Niall spoke to the small chubby lady behind the reception desk. "I'M here to see Dr. Johnson" I corrected Niall, the lady behind the counter just laughed and replied "take a seat right over there, he should be with you in a moment". I waited for about five minutes before I heard Dr. Johnson speak, "Leigh Baker?" I looked up at him before he spoke once more, "Come right this way". 

      "What seems to be the problem, Leigh?" Dr. Johnson spoke, "Uh well, for the past two days I've been throwing up, I thought it might have been a tummy bug, but my friend outside insisted I got it checked out anyway" I said with a giggle, "Have you had any pains accompanying the vomiting?" he then questioned, "Uh yeah I've had pains but they're bearable pains." I replied. "What about you're period, how has that been?" I began to blush slightly, I hated this sort of topic even if it was with my doctor. "Well, it's late but I usually ignore that, considering my period is never on time" I quickly explained trying to change the topic", "Have you been sexually active recently?" He asked making my face burn, "Um yeah" I remarked looking at the ground. "Well we can take a test now if you wish?" Dr. Johnson spoke, "Like a p-pregnancy test?" I implied, "Yes, only if you wish for one, or you could go to the drug store and get a home tester" He explained. I thought for a moment, "I'll take one now" I remarked as he handed me the box, "the bathroom is just behind that door". I was nervous, I couldn't be pregnant, I was just a kid myself. Nineteen. Surely it wasn't possible I mean me and Nathanial had been trying for months and I wasn't getting pregnant, it couldn't just happen now.

      I entered the doctors surgery once again, and handed him the pregnancy test. I waited in silence for a few minutes before he turned to look at me once again. "Congratulations, you will be a mother in 7 months and two weeks" My stomach hit the floor as he spoke. "Are you okay?" He questioned, "Yeah its just I can't be a mum, I'm just a kid" I spoke before bursting into tears, "Leigh, you can get through this, we have help leaflets and twenty-four hour telephone help service, you have a family who can help, and there is always the option of adoption if you're really that sure you won't be able for this." He tried to calm me. "Do you know the father?" he then questioned, "Yeah I think I do." could I a DNA Paternity test just to be sure?" I then questioned, "Yes of course, just bring the male in and we can get it done ri-" "No I want to know if I can get the DNA and bring it to you for testing?" I then asked, I didn't want Nathanial to know I was pregnant yet. "Well you have the option of a paternity kit, which means you bring the test home and then back to us" he explained, "Yes, I need to do that". I probably seemed insane to this Doctor but I just don't want Nathanial knowing I'm knocked up, he'll make a big deal out of it, and I don't want that either. "I'll fetch you one right away and you return it to me as soon as you get the DNA Sample" Dr. Johnson justified.

    "So are you okay?" Niall jumped from his seat questioning me as I left the Doctors surgery, "Yes Niall I'm fine, I told you I just have a vomiting bug" I reassured him knowing I was lying. "Well let me give you a lift home" He spoke as we left the doctors and walked outside, "Sure" I said with a wide but fake smile.

    How was I going to get Nathanial's DNA without him knowing? And what happens if he's not the father? I had so many unanswered questioned, and a long, hard 7 months ahead of me.
