Chapter Six

Percy's POV

Our camp... okay, not camp... our temporary settlement was pretty good. We were right next to a cliff and a forest. So me and Jack had gathered some logs and I set up a fire. Then I cooked Leo's signature Tofu Tacos for dinner. Thank you, Hestia, for giving me cooking skills. I literally burned pasta before I was blessed. That's how bad I was.

"Percy!" Ostin screamed with his mouth full, "This is amazing!" I grinned, "Thanks, Ostin. I try." No, I don't. It has to be amazing. That's how I was blessed.

McKenna scolded him, "Ostin! Don't talk with your mouth full." Ostin looked sheepish. I bit into my own taco. "Like this?" I ask McKenna, food flying out of my mouth and into the fire. Taylor laughed, "Percy, you are an idiot." I took a bow, "I know." 

I heard a rustling in the forest. I stood up, "Guys, I think there's someone coming. Give me your plates." They looked really scared, but handed them over. I put my finger to my lips and knelt behind a log. "Alright," I said, "Zeus, stand between the fire and the edge. I'm going to stun them. Then, on my signal, you're going to zap them with lightning." He nodded.

When the first person burst out of the woods, a plate was already on its way to his head. He crumpled to the ground. "Oops, took him out." Ian yelled, "There are more Elgen on the way!" 

The Elgen troops burst into our settlement, firing away. I yelled, "You'd think they'd get smarter." No one laughed. They weren't used to all of this fighting yet, I guess. Back at Camp... I was distracted for a second. Just a second. But the next thing I knew, a knife flew hilt first into Zeus, who was still near the edge. It hit him in the temple and he took a couple of staggering steps backward.

And right off the edge.

Taylor's POV

Me and Michael were working in perfect sync like we'd fought together for years. I would reboot them and he'd pulse them. Percy yelled, "You'd think they'd get smarter." I don't know how the guy can joke around at a time like this. Soon, all of the soldiers were taken out. Suddenly, a soldier burst from the forest and threw a knife at us. We were stunned, and Percy looked like he was thinking about something he'd rather not be thinking about. There was something up with that guy, but he'd already saved our lives more than once. It hasn't even been a day. I trusted him with my life. 

The knife flew straight at Zeus. It hit him hilt first, which made me feel relieved. He took a couple of steps backward and I heard Abigail scream. The next thing I knew, Percy's shirt was in my face and the two of them were gone. 

Michael yelled, "Percy! Zeus!" I removed the shredded fabric from my head and looked around. Abigail was crying. McKenna looked distraught. Ostin was the only one working. "Ian, I need a step by step of what's happening." What's going on? Where are Percy and Zeus? Then I paled. Zeus fell off the edge. Percy jumped off after him. "Ian!" I screamed, "Zeus can't be in the water!" 

Ian was near tears. I could see it. "The cliff goes five hundred feet down," he gulped, "Neither of them are going to make it." Abigail just sobbed harder. Jack and McKenna put their arms around her, but they didn't look too good either. 

Michael said, "Just tell us what's happening, Ian." Ian's voice quavered as he spoke. "They're falling. Percy's gone into a nose dive and Zeus is flailing. Percy evens out and Zeus's hand smacks him in the nose. I think it's bleeding. Percy grabs Zeus and pulls him on top of him. I think he wants to take the brunt of the fall. They start to fall slower." He looked dumbfounded, "How is that even possible?"

Ostin took control, "We can figure that out later. What's happening?" Ian shook himself, "They hit the water." I start crying as well. Percy and Zeus are both gone. That can't be possible. Zeus saved our lives so many times. He was our family. Percy didn't even know us and he's already taken bullets and jumped off cliffs for us. And now he's dead too.
