Prologue: Emma Starfield

HERO DIRECTOR POINT OF VIEW

"Sir, are you sure you want to take her in...what if it's a trap from those filthy villains and she is sent to destroy us!" I look down at the baby girl in my arms. A baby? Sent to destroy us...maybe...

"Patton, we found her on Earth. She wouldn't even know a thing about our planet or the fact that we're heros and the villains live on the other side." I laugh a little at the thought of me bringing her here from Earth! It's crazy beyond belief, but some part of me feels like I was destined to find her.

"You're insane! You're head is in the clouds! I forbid you to do this!" I peel my eyes off the baby and look at Patton. When is adopting a baby a crime? "Don't forget your place, assistant director. May I remind you that I'm the director and I do what I think is best for my people!" The baby started to cry at my sudden outburst.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." I started humming under my breath. Slowly, she calms down.

"Look at you, Jayvion. This baby is going to make you a softie towards...them. She's one of them!" Trying real hard not to lose my patience with this guy I respond "no one is born evil, they're made. Remember that now."

I walk off towards my office holding the baby girl in my arms.

"You know, sir, it's not just me who thinks this is a really really bad idea, everyone does..." I stop on my tracks. Everyone? Wait how do they even know I haven't told anyone yet? The only reason you know is because you were there with me when I found her...

"How does everyone know about this?" I watch his movements. He looks down at his feet, plays with his ring, and sways a little back and forth. I try holding in my laugh. Whenever he does that it's a gimme that he's lying. "No one knows yet, sir. That's why I'm saying it's not too late we can take her back...I'll even do it for you."

I continued walking towards my office ignoring Patton mumbling.

"We'll talk about this later, Patton. Right now though we need to gather everyone here." I lean in to press the red button, I would've to if it wasn't for Patton pressing the blue button.

"Sir, no offense, but I think this is more important than a battle." Of course, red means be prepared for a battle... no more like going to battle.

Thank you Patton.

I look at the blue lights that has scattered to every light bulb in our half of the planet. "I'm glad you think so because it is more important. We're going to gather a meeting, tell them the fantastic news, they'll be happy beyond belief knowing someone else has joined our crew, which I'll be taking under my wing, and better yet it proves you wrong when you find out everyone loves having her."

I swinged the baby back in forth in my arms. Why wouldn't the people be happy? Granted it will be strange, but other than that I think they'll grow to love her.

"Let's go, sir." I nodded and walked out the door with the baby in my arms sleeping.
......
I look at the people filing into our meeting place. Already seeing curious looks fly my way or toward the baby's way and hearing slight murmurings I can't hear. I'm sure everything fine.

Doing this job for 25,000 years I know when someone missing. "Where's Roberts?" At first no one answered. We just sat there waiting. I don't want to start without anybody.

A man, covered in mud, came in. "Sorry, sir I was..." He stops short when his eyes fell on the baby. He goes to his family his eyes never leaving the baby. Well this is awkward...only if you make it awkward.

I clear my throat. "Anything going on that I should know about?" Everyone eyes just falls on the baby not at me, the baby. I too look down at her and can't help, but smile at her.

"As you know, by colleague and I went to Earth for some business about what's going on with the heros and the villains..." I look at my people who's giving cold glares toward the baby. I turn to my assistant director who just shrugs.

"Everything seems to be in balance having three heros and two villains. As we were traveling back we came upon this baby girl. She was left abandon in a...broke down building. I decided to bring her in to adopt her..." immediate outbursts began to fill the room.

"Why her? She just a worthless human!"

"What could she do here? She probably a trap from those cockroaches!"

"She's weak!"

"Don't forget pathetic."

"QUIET!" I shouted. The baby starts crying, but I couldn't hold it in anymore. "You guys are acting like those cockroaches or those whatever you call them, villains! We're heros aren't we supposed to bring people into the good side?" They look at each other a little ashamed then all together shouted "no!"

Still holding the baby in my hands I just frustrated a sigh. "I brought her from Earth because I believe she could help us take down the villains, but I need your help to do it."

They look at each other. Man this is not how I imagine the meeting would go. I mean yeah she not from here and yeah she different, but...

"Sir, if you don't mind telling us what's her name?" Robert asked annoyed.

Not focusing on his tone I replied "good question. I thought about this and I came up with a name..."

"Everyone I would like you to meet Emma Starfield!"
........
"Patton every single one in that room... every soul in that room hates her, and I mean hates her... I don't understand why..." I couldn't even finish my train of thought too overwhelming. I mean she a baby. Only a baby she doesn't deserve this.

You know what... through time I bet it will change its just the starting reaction...yeah.

"I told you, Jayvion. Everyone hates the fact that there's something new in their system. We don't do new." He said it as if I don't understand and he's right I don't. New is good. Change is good.

"You'll see. I'll prove all of you wrong. She's special I can feel it in my very soul."
