Luke approached my friend group casually, his hands in his jacket pockets, with his signature smirk directed right at me. Luke made me nervous. He wasn't like other people. In fact, I wasn't entirely convinced that he was a person at all. He didn't act like other people, or talk like them. He wasn't in any way similar to the dead either, though, and that's what really unsettled me.

"Really, Belle?"

"What?" I questioned. I came back to reality and looked up slowly at Kathrynn, confused.

"How long were you planning on keeping this a secret from us!?" Kathrynn demanded, arching a perfectly shaped brow.

"What?" I asked again, looking from my friends to Luke in confusion. Luke laughed, licking his lips before meeting my gaze.

"That's just like you, babe," Luke chuckled, sitting down on the ground beside me and wrapping his arm around my waist before pulling me closer. My heart jumped a bit when my tiny body came into contact with his towering figure. What the hell was happening?

"Luke, what-" his lips brushed gently against mine before I could finish my question. He pulled away slowly, his eyes opening only once he'd put some space between our lips.

"Oh, Belle," he sighed, "your head's always stuck somewhere in outer space."

I am so confused.

"Belle Watson and Luke Hemmings, huh?" Katie spoke with a smirk. "I'd never have guessed you two would get together."

"Together??" I looked to Luke for answers.

"Together." His voice was firm when he answered, and his expression begged me to play along before he turned his attention back to the group. "I couldn't stand to sneak around any longer."

"Any longer? How long has this been going on???" Katie demanded.

"Katie, that really isn't any of your busines," I told her with an expression that demanded she stop questioning us. But, of course, this was Katie I was talking to. If I didn't outright tell her to stop, her mouth would just keep running.

"My god, Belle. You never seemed like the type to keep relationships a secret from your friends," Katie continued with a frown, folding her arms across her chest. Maisie just looked at her like she couldn't believe what was going on.

"Katie, please," I pleaded softly, my eyes begging her to stop.

"I'm only saying that-"

"Katie, shut up!" Maisie exclaimed, nudging her best friend in the ribs and widening her eyes as if to say 'take a hint' as she cut her off mid sentence. Katie frowned and pursed her lips unhappily, but remained silent.

"I've got to get going babe, see you tonight?" He asked as he got up, kissing my cheek. I didn't respond and he began walking away. I was frozen in place for a moment. Confused, upset, annoyed... Confused.

I scrambled up and left the group, mumbling a lame excuse about being tired and having him drive me home. I caught up to him and got in front of him, stopping so he'd have to do the same.

"What the hell was that??" I demanded with a frown.

"I dunno. Mike dared me to do it, so I did," Luke told me with a shrug. I looked at him in disbelief.

"Great. Like my friends will ever believe that," I grumbled. "I'll have to make up some off the wall break up story by tomorrow. That is not how I wanted to spend my night, Hemmings!"

"Or you could just let them continue thinking we're dating. That'd be easy," Luke suggested.

"Right, because it's so easy for you to just suddenly stop hanging with your friends and start hanging out with mine. You asshole, you're too popular to pull shit like this!" I growled, shoving him in annoyance. Luke just laughed and shook his head.

"Let's just date, then."

"OH YEAH, SURE I'LL JUST-wait, what?"
