"Night, Maisie. You work tomorrow?" Luke inquired tiredly as he walked down the hall to his room.
"Not till two." I answered just before his door shut behind him. I snuggled deeper into the couch, pulling the blue throw tighter around me as I continued watching my crime show. I quickly lost track of time, and probably would have sat there motionless until the sun came up if I wasn't startled by a knocking sound coming from behind me.
"What the...?" I got up quickly and quietly, opening the pantry and pulling out Luke's baseball bat. I waited. Another knocking sound. It was coming from the door to the porch. I scurried over, clutching the bat in my hand before pulling the blinds away to reveal a mess of red hair and pink lips pulled up into a grin. I dropped the bat in surprise and relief before shoving open the door and hitting Michael's chest.
"You scared the shit out of me!" I hissed at him, pulling the door shut behind me so we wouldn't wake Luke up. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"I got hungry, and figured maybe you'd be hungry too, so..." Michael trailed off, moving to the side to reveal a candle lit dinner set up on my tiny porch table. I furrowed my brows and turned back to Michael.
"Are you crazy?" I asked simply. Michael laughed and shrugged.
"What can I say? I'm the wine and dine sort." Michael stated.
"What would you have done if I was asleep, you idiot? Did you even think about that possibility?" I reasoned, still feeling exasperated.
"I don't really think before I act. It's part of my charm." Michael told me, pulling out a chair and motioning for me to sit down. I obliged slowly, and once I was seated he pushed the chair in for me.
"I can't believe you did this." I mumbled, shaking my head as I eyed the food.
"You should have seen the look on the waiter when I ordered two meals and asked for them to be boxed as soon as he came out with the food. Priceless." Michael chuckled.
"Are you even allowed to do that?" I wondered aloud. Michael shrugged.
"I sat down at the table and paid for the food; what could they really do at that point?" Michael reasoned as he sat down across from me.
"You... are kind of insane." I finally concluded, laughing to myself at the insanity of the man sat across from me, then added. "I like it, though."
"Eat up." He insisted, smiling as he twisted his pasta onto his fork. I nodded and did the same.
"Do you do this for every girl you blackmail into kissing you?" I joked. Michael shook his head.
"Only the ones who are still awake when I come knocking at 3am." He answered.
"After two months of radio silence, might I add." I finally mentioned what had been bothering me since our first and last encounter until now. He put his fork down, but stared at his food and began wringing his hands.
"I didn't think you'd want to see me." He admit. "Blackmailing you into kissing me was kind of a shitty thing to do."
"Can't argue that." I agreed, continuing to eat. "But I wouldn't have kissed you if I didn't want to."
"Yeah, but I should apologize. I thought a candle lit dinner might put you in a more forgiving mood." He told me, still looking guilty. "So, sorry about that."
"Honestly, I'm more upset with you for disappearing for two months after the kiss." I said truthfully. "Thought maybe Luke had scared you away for good."
"No!" Michael denied instantly and loudly, his hands hitting the table and shaking the glasses, then added more softly. "Luke doesn't scare me."
"I was joking." I assured him with a small smile. "Sort of."
"Hey, I'll see you again soon. I promise." Michael told me as he stood up.
"Wait! What about all this?" I gestured to all of the food still on the table.
"You'll clean that up as an apology for even insinuating I might be afraid of your ridiculous roommate." Michael smirked before hopping over the small porch wall and strolling off, leaving me to glare after him with the smallest of bemused smiles left on my face.
