I woke up with a start and looked at my surroundings, 'My trailer', I thought. I rolled over and looked out my window.
"I'm at finals?" I said out loud while scrunching up my nose, realizing were I was. I thought back to my dream.
'Wow,' I thought. 'It was so realistic, but it never happened. Thank god it never did happen! I would never show my face again if it did.'
It was finals, I was 16, Kylie and I rarely talk anymore. Charlotte and I are basically not friends anymore. Ruby and I were still not friends.
While I was rodeoing in Dodge City, Kansas, I met my friend Lilly there who was my age. Lilly and I have been hanging out a lot. She's a lot much at times, but she is still my friend never the less.
I looked at my phone that was under my pillow. I had three Wattpad updates, five text messages, and fifteen Instagram notifications. I look at my Instagram notifications and seen most of them were likes on my barrel racing photo from the first go in barrels this week. It was an amazing run, a 15.1 second barrel run.
~FLASHBACK TO YESTERDAY NIGHT~
"Now running in the barrel racing, is Becky Brown"
"After Becky is our last barrel racer of the first go is Samantha Black. After barrels is Jr. Boys Bulls"
I heard the announcer announce the last two of us. I was on my barrel horse. He was prancing underneath me. Our muscles both tighten, ready to give it our all. We stood like that in the tiny pin for 2 full minutes that felt like an entirety, waiting for the judge to set the third barrel back up that the last girl tipped.
All that was running though my mind was 'Sit, Look, Turn' over and over and over in my head. I bit my lip as I nodded my head to signal the man to fling the gate open. Then everything went in slow motion from there. The gate flying open in slow motion, sitting up for first barrel, looking, turning and people cheering for me in the background, but then almost by speed of light we were at third barrel already.
Then everything was in slow motion again. Me, sitting up, looking towards home, my toes dragging in the dirt from turning so low, and my knee bumping the barrel. By the time I got around third and was one stride out, I didn't know if I had tipped or not. If I did or didn't, I didn't looked back. My hands were right behind my horses head; the saddle horn digging into my stomach. I turned my head to look at the flagger as I went by.
I went by the flagger and then turn my horse in a circle slowing him down. When I did I looked back to third seeing it at an angle standing up. My heart literally stopped at that moment and then it stopped again when I looked at the clock see my time a 15.101. My jaw dropped, Charlotte was leading with the time of 15.124.
"Well folks looks like we have a new leading time, 15.101, the un-official winner of the first go Jr. girls barrels!"
The announcer announce as the crowd when wild. I took off my hat and waved it to the crowd. I went out a separate gate than the one I went into. There was a bunch of people congratulating me on my win while walking back to my stall. I looked over at Charlotte when I went by only to see she was glaring at me.
I was at my stalls catty-cornered to my trailer. I was just getting done feeding my horses. When a 130'pound body came flying at me and football tackling me to the ground only to find Lilly.
~END OF FLASHBACK~
After looking on Instagram for awhile, I finally decided to get up and get dressed. I grabbed a pair of jean shorts and a tank top to put on. I let my curly brown hair fall out. I no longer had long hair; my new hair cut now fell to my chest. About the time I got done getting dressed I received a text from Lilly asking if I was up. I told her yes I was up as I walked out of my trailer and yelled for my mom.
