"Mothercare is defiantly the place we need to go," Alice said leading me towards the entrance.
It made me cringe at the sight of all the motherhood type stuff the was on show right before my eyes.
I walked over to the most adorable prams.
"I don't think prams are your worry yet Sweety, we need to concentrate on clothes," Alice said picking up a very adorable baby-grow.
"N'awww I think that is so sweet," I said taking it off of her
It was a paper white baby-grow with a little duck on it.
"I'm going to have to take this," I laughed
I plopped it in the basket and laid eyes on a cuddly teddy-bear. I said my very first friend and I thought it was very very cute. I also took one off the shelf and placed it in the basket.
"I don't really know what colours to buy though, I don't know the sex of the baby," I said picking up two different baby grows, one pink and one blue.
"Are you going to find out?" She asked me
"No, its going to surprise me," I smiled rubbing my not so baby-bump belly.
I picked a few white baby-grows and a yellow one and folded them and put them in the basket along with the other items.
"What about a cot Alice?" I asked
"How on earth are we going to carry that thing?" she replied
"Do you think I can order it? Or put a reserve on it?"
"I don't know Ali, why don't you ask?"
I walked over to the man walking around the shop and asked him whether I can get a fine brown stunning cot to be delivered for me. He nodded his head and took me over to the desk and gave me some papers which I needed to fill in. Things like my address and telephone and name etc. I handed it back to him and directed Alice to the pram that I had seen before.
"Oh sweety, its perfect but its one hundred and nineteen pounds. You don't have that today," Alice told me
I looked at it longingly hoping that money would magically appear in my hands. But it didn't! I carried on walking back over to the man to see if I could also add the pram to the delivery list.
We walked round the shop adding a few bits and bobs to the basket like toys and stuff.
"What about this baby name book, they always come in handy you know?" Alice asked picking up the book of baby names.
I sighed and threw it in the basket.
"Should I get it a dummy or not?" I asked
"Hmm, I'm not to sure, add one anyway and see if the baby likes it or not," She replied
I picked up a white dummy and carried my basket to the till. All the items were getting scanned until finally the price appeared on screen.
"That will be seventy pound and seventy two pence pleas?" Asked the lady behind the till
I pulled out mums twenty pound note and added the rest from my purse. I handed over the cash and grabbed the bags and receipt. The looks I got on the way out were making me nervous. I can't blame them though really... A girl my age walking into Mothercare and coming out with bags full of the place.
"Oh shit, where am I going to keep this stuff?" I asked nervously
"Oh yeah.... Uh-Oh...." Alice said looking at me "Well you can keep it at mine, I'll hide it away in my room and no-one will suspect a thing?" She kindly offered
I took her offer and handed her the bags.
"I need to change the address on the forms then, I'll be two ticks," I smiled
I power walked back into Mothercare hoping not to miss our bus and walked over to the man that gave us the paperwork.
"Hey there again, been a slight change of plan, my friend is going to keep my things for me, so can I write down her address instead?" I asked hopefully
He went and fetched the sheets of paper and let me write down Alice's address. I scribbled my signature on it and found my way back to Alice who was waiting just outside.
"Lets get back shall we?" I asked
"Are you sure that's all you want today?" She asked me
"I can't really afford anything else today," I laughed "I'll get other necessities nearer the time,"
"If your sure," She said whlst waving the bus driver to pull over at the nearest bus-stop.
We both showed him our return ticket, and took a seat upstairs and at the front. I loved looking out the massive front window. Every time the driver turned the bus it looked like you were about to crash into whatever was in-front of you.
I looked down at the sleeve of the little white baby-grow poking out the bag.
I stared out the window in deep thought. 'I will soon be putting that baby-grow on my little tiny bundle so I need to stop doubting myself so much, I'm going to be that little creation's perfect mummy!'
