Lucy's POV:

One week until school starts back up. One week until I become a senior at my new high school. One week until I become a new target for bullies.

One week.

One week.

One week.

Other than working part time at Sweet Tooth, my summer was basically uneventful.

I think the most movement I ever made during break was getting out of bed to eat and getting in the car to go to work with Eve.

Anyway, I noticed that the boy with freckles had come into the shop everyday after the first time we met.

He would buy the same thing everyday.

Two brownies with white icing and covered in chocolate sprinkles.

He would occasionally sit down in a booth at the very back of the shop, but he would usually buy his stuff and then leave immediately afterwards.

I had to talk to him. Or at least try to.
-----
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock beeping obnoxiously.

I groaned, picked it up, and chucked it across the room.

It hit the wall and left a tiny dent in it before crashing to the floor and shattering.

God, I hate alarms. Ive heard them so many times that their ringing now haunts me and I get chills everytime I hear one go off.

I sighed and climbed out of bed. Today was the day I would try to talk to sprinkle spots boy.

I got off my bed and yawned as I walked over to my closet. As I opened up the door, my eyes immediately drifted toward a small, light yellow sundress. I grabbed it off its hanger and slipped it on.

I did my hair into two tiny buns on the top of my head. Eve always said that they looked like cute, tiny, blonde bear ears in the top of my head.

I pulled on my pastel yellow Converse and reached for my makeup bag.

I stared at myself in the mirror as I carefully traced the scars with my finger.

Gritting my teeth, I finally looked away to search through my makeup bag for my primer, the first layer of my makeup.

I grabbed my makeup brush and closed my eyes as I applied it to my face.

Ten minutes later, I finished covering up my flaws. I took one last look at my reflection and walked out of my room to go eat breakfast.

Eve and Dad were already downstairs eating. Eve was completely absorbed in her book that she was currently obsessed with. Dad was reading the news off of his phone. I poured myself a bowl of cereal and sat down at the table quietly.

Dad broke the uncomfortable silence first," So, why are you ready for work so early? You usually don't get ready until the afternoon."

This question was, without a doubt, directed toward me. Eve was still in her pajamas. Clearly not ready to go to work yet.

"Today I want to go into work early, I need to prepare an order for a customer that will be coming by earlier than when my usual shift starts," I lied.

Not necessarily a lie but I didn't feel like telling Dad exactly what I had to do today.

"Oh? And does Eve know about this? She is the one who's driving you two there, after all."

I glanced over at Eve. She hadn't even recognized the fact that I had just sat down, much less the fact that Dad and I were talking.

Dad looked over at Eve and said," Evie dear, did you know that Lucy wanted to go into work earlier than usual? Are you okay with driving to the shop earlier than when your shift starts?"
