Lucy's POV:
"So what do you want to do first?"
I tightened my grip on Blake's arm as we entered the carnival grounds, armed with nothing but our tickets and cell phones.
When I had told Blake about the tickets, he had immediately said yes. I hadn't told him about my fear of roller coasters or rides in general yet.
I forced a smile. I can do this,I thought. Do it for Blake.
"Hello? Button? You there?"
I looked up at Blake. His brown eyes were full of excitement and happiness. I nodded gingerly. "Great, what should we do first? We have the whole day," Blake said, scanning the various colored rides with a smile on his face.
I looked around us. There was a carousel, giant swing set, giant slide races, carnival games were you could win prizes, and roller coasters. As least that's what I could see so far. I gripped at Blake's arm even more.
Blake looked back down at me. "Um Lu, you're killing my arm." He gave me a concerned look.
I took a deep breath. "I'm fine, why don't we try out some of the games first? I think there's a bottle ring toss where you can win a plush narwhal somewhere around here."
Blake grinned and started pulling me toward the booth decorated with giant stuffed animals. He didn't win any prizes but did get a couple of good laughs when he watched me fail at the game with him. I think I accidentally got the ring stuck on my wrist when it was my turn. I've now learned that no matter how cute it is, don't try to make it a bangle bracelet.
We walked away to try another game booth. Blake ended up winning a plush cow at this one. He handed it to me after he won it. I ended up blushing like crazy until he told me why. He had ended up seeing some of his team mates from football heading our way. I mentally kicked myself for blushing.
"Blake, fancy seeing you here man," a guy with red hair and freckles said as they bumped fists. Damn, he was attractive looking. The guy with red hair, I mean.
"Oh yeah, it's that girl Lucy. She's with you."
Way to state the obvious.
I gave a shy smile and hid behind the stuffed cow. It was big enough to be used as a beanbag for a small child. Blake's cheeks went light pink. The guy with red hair smirked.
"We'll get out of your hair. Leave you two to your date. See you tomorrow Blake." He said as the other guys snickered and walked off. I buried my head in the cow's neck, trying to keep myself from going pink. Blake laughed uncomfortably. I peeked out at him. "You really like that cow don't you?" He said smirking.
I gave a meek smile and patted it on the head. "It's cute. I mean, who can resist these eyes?"
Blake rolled his eyes. "I think we've tried out every single game here. Why don't we try a ride?"
Shit.
NoNoNoNoNoNoNo.
But Blake wants to ride the rides. Do it for him, I argued.
Screw that. I'm not going on those scary rides, I argued back.
"Look! They only have a fifteen minute wait time for the log ride!" Blake said, grabbing my arm and pulling me into line.
I was mentally screaming inside and I'm pretty sure the fear was standing out on my face. Blake didn't notice when he gave the man our tickets. I almost didn't put the cow plush down when we boarded the ride. However, bigger objects like backpacks and prizes had to sit on the sidelines while you were on the ride.
