Lucy's POV:

When Eve picked me up from school she almost didn't recognize me.

I don't blame her. When I approached her, I had a full-blown smile on my face. Definitely not something you saw everyday when you lived with me.

When I got in the car, I was still grinning. Eve gave me a surprised look as she pulled out of the parking lot.

"So, what finally broke your sadness? I can't believe I am actually seeing you genuinely smile. I mean, I knew I would eventually see you smile again, but I never expected this...." she says.

We arrive at Sweet Tooth for work and I was still grinning stupidly. My cheeks were starting to hurt, but I didn't care in the least. During the last hours of school, I had replayed what had happened in the library over and over again in my head. I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I sighed dreamily, "The boy that comes to the shop everyday, well, he goes to my school. He invited me to eat with him in the library during lunch."

Eve raises her eyebrows, "Yeah? And your happy because....?"

I twirled around, "I think he might be my first friend since middle school. He's friendly, smart, and funny. He just made me feel so wonderful and happy."

Eve looked surprised. "You didn't make out with him did you? That bast-"

"No! Eve! Oh my God!" I shriek. I had just met the guy and she was accusing me of making out with him. Actually, now that I think about it, I wouldn't mind if-

"Yo! We got to work Luce! Stop daydreaming about your first kiss with Mr. Hot Spot and get moving! We've got to serve the people! You know what they say, 'Let them eat cake!'," Eve said dramatically and she turned around to grab a bag of flour from the back to start making an order.

Eve's comment caught me off guard. I flushed bright red out of annoyance. I was still a virgin and had never kissed anyone before. Eve use to call me "White Icing" because I was "so innocent and pure". I don't think Dad minded that much, honestly.

I mean, when Eve lost her virginity, Dad didn't talk to her for a week, no joke. He believes in saving yourself for marriage. It scared me so much that I promised I would never be intimate until I was married.

So, I think I'll stick with White Icing.

"Shut up," I say as my happy mood slightly darkens. The conversation was going to go downhill fast if Eve kept up what she was doing. I could only hold my temper for so long and Eve knew that. If I didn't get mad, I got annoyed. Like, super annoyed.

I set up the shop and then positioned myself behind the cash register. My shift ended about two hours later. However, Eve's didn't end for another hour. So I decided to occupy an empty booth and do my homework. I grabbed my backpack from the employee's lounge and headed over to my usual booth.

I plopped my stuff down and scattered my assignments across the table. I grabbed my pencil pouch and pulled out my purple mechanical pencil. I sighed. Nothing like homework to dampen your mood even more.

I decided to start with math. Before long, Eve was finally done with her shift and ready to go home.

When we arrived back at home, we found a note taped to the fridge from Dad.

Will be gone for the next couple of days. Business takes me out of state again. Stay safe. No parties. Oh, and Eve is in charge. Love you girlies.
Love you lots,
Dad
