Chapter 17

"she's what?! How?! What happened?!" "I don't know I was just sitting here and I looked at her and she was asleep. Then the nurse came in and needed to do some tests so she could go home tomorrow and tried to wake her up but she wouldn't wake up. She's in ICU" he said and I could tell he was crying.

"we'll be there soon" "ok" "Royce" "yeah?" "we're talking about Eliza here. She's a fighter" "I know, see you soon" "bye" I said ending the call.

"what happened?" Zayn asked. "she slipped into a coma. I have to tell Niall where is he? And the others but Niall first-" I said pacing the room with tears in my eyes. Zayn got up and came over to me gently grabbing my shoulders and tilting my chin up so i was looking at him and then he said "babe, babe, baby listen to me" when my eyes were wandering around the room.

I looked up at him and he continued "slow down ok? Like you said to Royce, she's a fighter. She'll be ok" "Don't say she's gonna be ok when you don't know it! They all told me dad was gonna be ok but he wasn't! He died and she could too" "i'm sorry, she won't leave because she has too much here" " i know but I'm scared Zayn, I'm scared" I whispered. "i know baby I know" he said hugging me and kissing my hair. "I really do need to tell Niall though" I whispered. "do you want me to tell the other boys?" he asked. "yes please, and Dani and El. Lil's at her place so when i've told Niall I'll go and tell her" "ok let's go" he said grabbing my hand. We found everyone in the loungeroom watching tv.

"um Niall?" I asked. "yeah?" he asked turning around and looking at me. "can I talk to you?" "sure is everything ok?" he asked getting up and following me to the kitchen. "um, Royce just called. Niall, Eliza slipped into a coma an now she's on life support in the ICU" I said. "what? No no no no. She can't leave me. She can't do that to us Hayley" he said crying. I hugged him and let him cry on my shoulder, me crying on his as well. "I know but she loves you too much to leave Niall. If she ever left I know her ghost wouldn't leave your side" "I s'pose you're right, can we go to the hospital?" "yes, i told Royce we would be there soon. Zayn is telling the others and I'm going to Lil's place to tell her" "ok" he said.

We walked back into the loungeroom to find El and Louis hugging and crying, Liam crying to himself, Dani sitting on the floor with her head in her hands and Harry was kind of just staring off into space, almost in tears.

"WE'RE BACK!!" we heard two people yell just as Lil and Josh walked into the lounge room. "what's wrong?" Josh asked. "Eliza's ok isn't she?" Lil asked. Everyone shook their heads. "Lil, she slipped into a coma while we have been here and so she's in ICU on life support" I said walking towards her. She fell to the floor and i dropped beside her.

We both started crying as Harry and Zayn came over to us and picked us up, both hugging us. I let go of Zayn and hugged Josh. "c'mon guys let's go to the hospital" Liam said. We all piled into Liam's car, Louis driving.

We got to the hospital and literally ran inside. Royce was waiting for us near the front desk. I ran up to him and hugged him. "Hayley what are we gonna do?" he asked hugging me back. "honestly I don't know" I replied. "let's go up to her room" Royce said. "ok" we all said.

So we all followed Royce into the elevator and were joined on the next floor by another girl. When she got in she looked really excited...yet sad, then I noticed her face.

"Keely?" I asked. She turned and looked at me. "you remember me" she said smiling. "of course I do, sorry I haven't called yet there's just been a lot going on lately" I said. "oh that's ok" "hey aren't you the girl from the restaurant?" Zayn asked her. "yeah I am" she said obviously happy that Zayn remembered her as well. "thankyou for that, you didn't have to stick up for us" he said. "yes I did, I love youse" she said quietly, blushing a deep red. "awww!" Dani and El said.

We got to our floor and all got out, including keely. "oh by the way, everyone this is Keely. Keely this is Niall, Zayn, Louis, Liam, Harry, Eleanor, Danielle, Delilah, Josh and Royce, Eliza's older brother" I said. "hey" everyone said smiling at her. "hello, where is Eliza?" she asked. "oh um, we're here to see her actually" I said. "really? Is she ok?" she asked worried. "you can't tell anyone but she's in a coma" Lil said. "she's gonna be ok right?" she whispered. "I hope so" I whispered back.

"what are you here for?" Harry asked. "oh um, my mum was in a car accident" she whispered biting her lip so she didn't cry. I stepped forward and hugged her, everyone else doing the same. "I'm so sorry" Josh said. "thanks" she said. "my parents were taken from me and Josh in a car accident 4 years ago as well. We know exactly what your going through" I said as the hug broke apart. "I'm sorry" she said.

"you have nothing to be sorry for" I said giving her a small smile. "well um I better get to my mum" Keely said. "oh, yeah we have to get to Eliza too. See you soon Keels" I said. "bye everyone" she said waving an walking away. "bye" we all replied.

We followed Royce to the ICU ward and were stopped by a nurse when we entered. "who are you here to see?" she asked. "Eliza Hogan" Royce replied. "three people can see her at a time" she replied. "family maybe?" she suggested when we looked at each other. "I'm her cousin" I said. "I've already seen her so Delilah and Niall, you two go in with Hayley" Royce said. "thanks Royce" Niall said.

The nurse got us to put on hand sanitiser before taking us to Eliza's room. Niall ran straight over to the bed and picked up Eliza's hand, gently kissing her forehead. "I'll come back in five minutes so the others can see her" the nurse said. "thanks um...?" I started. "Natalie, but you can call me Nat" she said smiling. "thanks Nat" I said as she walked out, leaving us alone with Eliza.

"Eliza, wake up, please baby. I can't lose you, your my everything, your my other half, my reason to live. I wouldn't be able to survive without you. I love you so much Eliza Reiby Hogan" he said crying. It was so sad, watching him like this.

"Eliza Reiby Hogan Hotdog" me and Lil said laughing softly. "what?" Niall asked. "when she was younger, someone asked her what her name was and instead of saying Eliza she said hotdog because she couldn't pronounce her name. Ever since then whenever we want to get her attention we call her Eliza Reiby Hogan Hotdog" I explained. "oh" he said chuckling softly.

I walked over to the bed and sat down on the edge. "oh Eliza, what are we gonna do with you?" I said. We all sat near the bed crying until Natalie came back with Zayn, Josh and Danielle. Me and Delilah kissed Eliza's cheek and said goodbye then watched Niall kiss her lips lightly before saying "I love you" and walking out together.

Zayn stopped me on the way out and hugged me. "are you okay baby?" he asked. "I'll be right" I said as he kissed my cheek. I followed the others out and stood in the waiting room.

"she shouldn't be in there, it should be me" I said quietly. "what?" a few of the others said. "it's my fault she's in there, she was protecting me. If I hadn't been so scared of Dustin I would have stood up to him. Eliza wouldn't have had to stop him and then she wouldn't be in there" I said. "Hayley, you had every reason to be scared. Your her cousin, of course she's going to protect you" Niall said. "it's still my fault" I said walking out of the room just as Zayn, Liam and Danielle came back and Harry, Louis and Eleanor took there place.

"Hayley, where are you going?" Zayn called. "I'm just going for a walk" I called back.
