Sadie’s P.O.V.

*** One Year Later ***

This past year has been fantastic. Lucy and Dakota came home from the hospital healthy and happy three days after Dakota was born. Ever since they have been doing good. Dally got promoted which meant more money and that’s always good. Dakota absolutely loves their puppy, Spirit. It’s adorable to see her playing with it when they are almost the same size.

Dally and Lucy got married. The wedding wasn’t big but it was nice. They got married in their backyard. It was so beautiful.  I was Lucy’s Maid of Honour and she didn’t really have any bridesmaids. Johnny was Dally’s Best Man. Dakota was the flower girl and Ponyboy was the ring bearer because well he’s the youngest in the gang and we really didn’t know any other kids.

Pony pushed Dakota in her stroller. The pillow with the rings sat on top of the stroller. When they reached the end of the isle Pony put Dakota next to Darry and brought the rings to Dally and Lucy.  We had the ceremony and then the rest of the night was a party. It was the most fun I’ve had in a really long time.

But I think the funniest part of the night were the speeches. Even though there really was no need because the only ones there were us and a few friends of Dally’s from work.  But when most of the guests are drunk, speeches can be pretty funny. Like Two-Bit for example. Most of his speech was him laughing at whatever he was saying. \

Dally and Lucy have had this ongoing debate on what Dakotas first word would be. Dally thought it would be dadda and Lucy thought it would be mumma. When she finally said her first word both of them were shocked at what it actually was. It wasn’t dadda but it wasn’t mumma either.  It was Spirit. Well more like ‘Spiwit’ which was even better.

Sodapop finally made it official and proposed to me with a ring and everything. It was so romantic. We both had the day off so he surprised me with a picnic. Just us. He brought me to the place where he first asked me to be his girl. It was our special place. We set up the blanket under the tree where we carved our initials in a heart so long ago. After we ate I put  my head on his chest and he wrapped his arms around me while we looked at the clouds. When I started cleaning everything up I noticed Soda wasn’t helping me. I turned around to give him heck about it but when I turned around what I saw shocked me so much, I was lost for words.

He was down on one knee with a little black box open with a simple yet elegant ring sitting inside. “Sadie, I love you so much. I can’t picture living a day without you and I guess what I’m trying to say is well, will you marry me?” Were his exact words. I started nodding my head like an idiot because I was so happy I could barely choke out the word yes. He stood up and put the ring in the box on my finger and I jumped into his arms.

“I love you too Soda!”  I told him. He kissed me roughly and then put me down. We finished cleaning up the stuff from our lunch and went home. The whole walk back we held hands.

The entire gang just happened to be there. Which wasn’t unusual but I’m guessing they all knew Soda was gonna ask because as soon as we walked in Dally said “Hey buddy, she say yes?”  I laughed and held up my hand with the ring on it.

“Congrats guys” Steve said patting Soda on the back.

Lucy ran over to me. “Oh my gosh this is so exciting!”  We went up to my bedroom and talked for the rest of the night.

So that’s pretty much what happened in the past year. It’s been great. Today is Dakota’s first birthday. I had the day off and went over after breakfast to help Lucy set up. Dally must of slept in because he was in a rush to get out of the house when he would usually been gone by now. Dakota would still be sleeping and Lucy was running around helping Dally get out the door in one piece. She kissed him goodbye and he ran out. He probably didn’t even notice I was there.
