I froze.
Sophie was quiet. She noticed my body tense.
"You know that I would never ever EVER under any circumstances hurt you, right Sophie?" I asked her my voice hushed.
"I know Keefe," Sophie turned her face up to mine with a slight smile,"You love me too much."
That sent my pulse racing. Did she know? Who else knew? Did someone tell her?
I played off her comment,"But of course Miss Foster."
She scoffed and tucked her head under my chin. We were close, Sophie and I. She and Fitz had their telepathy thing, she and Dex had their best friend thing, she and Biana had their girl thing and then there was the two of us. After nearly dying together and only having each other during the VAcker crisis, well people hadn't even noticed the extra amount of time that we were together.
Except for Grady and Edaline.
Whenever I came back from Foxfire with Sophie I could hear Grady muttering that "I was a no good troublemaker and that I would only cause her pain." Edaline looked on at us with a sweet smile.
Sophie ruled my world. I never wanted her to know.
She was perfect. Her hair was soft and gold and her brown eyes were warm and comforting. She was there when I needed her and i hoped it would be that way forever. She was never cocky or arrogant about the power she possessed. Foster hated it. And just for being likee that, along with being so stubborn and kind, I loved her.
I am so screwed.
