I breeze into the art room, inhaling the warm familiar scent and the coziness of the room. I walk to my table, and pick up the master piece I've been working on lately. A stained glass painting of colorful tears, inspired by Pierce the Veil. My ear buds are in and I have a dopey smile on my face, so when the one friend I have sits in front of me notices. Mary Anne Waffle. My only friend, good friend at least, I mean I have a few other friends but it's not the same. I take my earbuds out and await her to speak.

She gives me a questioning look,"You seem awfully happy today." I shrug,"I guess. I mean I asked a girl to sit with me during lunch and it was fun." Her eyes widened to the size of golf balls, chocolate irises sparkling in both disbelief and pride. Her lips slipped into a immense smile and I wanted to dissolve into the closet, I was sort of embarrassed. Wasn't it normal for two people to sit next to each other during lunch? I mean I would sit with Mary but we didn't have the same lunch period so.. "You what? Tell me all the details!" She squealed and fellow peers shot us looks, but in the moment, seeing my best friend so excited over this one little thing, I didn't mind. "She's this cute girl in my history class," She nodded and I continued,"And she asked to borrow a pencil, she was really grateful said she owed me one and I was like you can pay me back by sitting with me during lunch. So we did and we have a lot in common and I just, I really like her. She even bared though my crappy puns."

Mary nodded again,"I have to meet her, and I have to approve, you better not rush into anything or say I love you too soon, got it or I'm beating you up." She strictly instructed me and played the maternal figure in my life that I sometimes desperately wanted. I smiled again,"Alright, mom. I got it." And she turned around for a second, going to get her hand sketches,"And you best not get her pregnant. If I hear my son got someone pregnant I'm slapping the shit out of him."

For some reason this only increased my smile and I said aloud,"I wouldn't dream of disgracing the family name." I loved how we could joke around that she was my mom and I her son. How we could go along and get out of any scenario just by working with each others imagination and wits. Once we had ditched school, dropping our belongings in an unused supply closet and walked out. We strolled in the open, where any teacher could simply look out their window and see two stupid, amatuer kids trying to ditch class. An adult, I honestly have no clue what status he hold in our school, like is he a teacher? Security? He stopped us while we were walking back to the school, he was sitting in his white pick up truck, and I glanced over at Mary and we had talked about what we would say if we got caught but she seemed frozen. I spoke up, my voice surprisingly calm and confident,"We couldn't find her I.D." I make a quick gesture with my thumb pointing to my panicked best friend,"Since we had track this morning, we came out here to look for it." I lied smoothly. We had walked near the track and I'm positive he had seen us near it. The man nodded and replied with his furrowed eyes brows to go to the office and to get her a temporary I.D. if we couldn't find it. I nodded to him and he sped off and she exhaled a breath of relief. "Told you it would work," Mary gave me a feeble smile.
