Date Day?

28 3 12

The rest of the day went by pretty fast, and the more it edged towards the end, the more nervous I got. Sure, she said yes, but what would we talk about? Would I bore her? Would she like me? All these questions raced around in my mind.

"Dixon!" Mr. Francis, a bulky bull dog of a man, called my name, pulling me back to Earth; it seemed he had been calling me for a while, while I was lost in thought.

"Uh.....yes sir?" I fumbled to put words together.

"I asked...what is the answer for the equation 2x + 7 = 32 + x?" Mr. Francis asked, and I could tell by his tone he was waiting for me to get it wrong.

"Umm......25?" I hardly paid attention in Mr. Francis' class, since last year I had basically taught myself the entire syllabus, but he loved to call on me.

"That's correct, now pay attention," he almost barked at me, giving me a murderous look.

"Yes sir," I said as I glanced at the clock. Only 10 minutes until the bell went for the end of class.

I was beyond anxious.

I was the first one out of the class, almost breaking my leg to get out of my seat.

I stepped out into the hallway, and then realized I didn't say where we should meet. I began looking around for her, I spotted Jack down the hall and he gave me a big smile and two thumbs up then pointed towards the exit. I assumed he was telling me she went outside, so that's where I went.

As I stepped outside I saw her; her dark brown hair playing with the wind.

My heart was racing as I walked over to her.

"Hey," my voice sounded much steadier than I felt, and when she turned around and smiled at me, my heart skipped a beat.

"Hey," she replied. "I was kinda worried I wouldn't see you, because we forgot to plan where to meet."

I chuckled. "Yeah, I realized when I left last period."

She giggled. "Shall we?"

I did an awkward curtsy thing and she laughed. I wasn't sure if I should be embarrassed or happy.

I decided happy and we walked along to Jo's.

"How was the rest of your day?" I tried to make conversation.

"It was the same as every other day I guess....boring."

We both laughed.

"Same," I agreed. "The day went by pretty fast though."

She glanced at me. "You were anxious?"

I laughed awkwardly. "Were?"

She smiled and so did I.

We arrived at Jo's in a matter of minutes.

Jo's was a pastry and ice cream shop quite close to our high school, so close that after school, kids were always here in their millions. However, we managed to find an empty booth.

"What would you like?" I asked her as she sat down.

She thought for a second. "I would like chocolate and vanilla," she then flashed one of the most beautiful smiles. And I just had to smile back.

I walked over and ordered two chocolate and vanilla ice creams and two chocolate chip cookies.

Then I went back over to the booth.

"Here you go," I handed her ice cream to her.

"You got it too," she smiled.

I laughed. "Hopefully I like it, " and then I sat down beside her.

"You can't not like it," she said then stuck her tongue out at me.

I couldn't help but laugh.

We then began to dig into our ice creams, she was right, I liked it, a lot.

I looked across at her and tried to think of something to talk to her about.

"You're into art right?" she asked, which took me by surprise so I wasn't sure if I had heard right.

"Umm...yeah, I draw from time to time."

"Are you good? Don't be modest."

I laughed at this. "I'm averagely good, and not being modest....what are you into?"

"Hmm....well, books I guess, and a little poetry."

"Oh, any book recommendations?"

"How about tomorrow I bring a book or two for you to read? "

I smiled. "So I'll see you tomorrow?" I ask, with a surge of confidence that becomes regret soon after.

I was on the verge of saying 'never mind' when she laughed and responded.

"No, I'm going to run away to Amsterdam because we went on a date and I don't wish to see you after," she said, laying on the sarcasm.

I was still stuck on the word date and looked at her while my heart sped up once again.

She noticed me looking at her and then realized what she had said, she then laughed.

"Yeah, I consider this a date," she said and smiled at me before going back to her ice cream.

I wanted to scream or jump for joy or dance or something. I hoped she didn't notice how much I was blushing at this point.

I smiled like an idiot and went back to my ice cream.

"Can I call you Dix?" she asked as she glanced over at me with an ice cream mustache.

I burst out in laughter and she laughed too and asked me what the matter was.

"You have a mustache," I laughed again as she blushed and wiped it off. "And yes, you can call me Dix," I was actually oddly surprised she knew my name, but she also knew I was into art.

She then put her finger in her ice cream and put it on my cheek.

I jokingly looked at her in shock and she stuck her tongue out at me, to which I chuckled.

We finish eating pretty quickly, which was a bit disappointing, because even though I was beyond nervous, I enjoyed spending time with her.

She offered me a piece of her cookie. "But only on one condition," she said before handing it to me.

As usual, my nerves kicked in. "....what is it?"

"Tell me a secret," she said, looking directly into my eyes.

Her eyes were really beautiful, if whoever said that they were a window to the soul was right; she had a very beautiful soul.

She blinked a few times, which made me realize I had zoned out.

"Umm....when I was in middle school, I peed my pants once," that was the first thing I could think of.

She immediately started laughing and gave me the cookie mid-laugh.

I was blushing like crazy at this point, not sure if I should be embarrassed.

The laughing then slowly died down and then looked at me once again. "So did I."

I was honestly shocked by her response and had to check if she was joking or not. She wasn't.
