Y/N drops the shoe in her hand at the sound of the scream and immediately rushes out of the bathroom, sliding across the floor towards the door. She should've probably stopped to put on Luhan's shoes but she was out the door quicker than her mind was processing.
"Minseok! Minseok!" She screamed right back, because the only person capable of screaming her name at that octave here was him so far.
"Y/N!"
She almost trips down the stairs, but she catches herself on the railing. She sprints across the wooden polished floor, and falls to her knees halfway to where Xiumin's on the floor, skidding the rest of the way.
In her rush to get to him, her skirt has probably blown up giving everyone a view of her panties but that's the least of her problems, and she looks around at all the people looking down at Xiumin like meat, grasping his head and pulling it down to her chest. His hands are tied behind his back, and there's red coming from a gash on his cheek.
"What are you doing to him?!" She fires the question, but nobody around seems interested in answering.
"Step back, Y/N." It's Key, and he doesn't look happy.
"Like hell I will!" She's not stuttering, but this is no time to be proud.
All the twisting and running and lunging for Minseok is hurting her back wounds but she couldn't care less. She feels the bandages on her back start to get saturated with blood but she ignores them completely, glaring up at all the people around her.
"Y/N, get away from him." A voice comes from behind the pack of people, one unfamiliar to her ears.
"No! I'd die first! Leave him alone!"
Someone in the crowd laughs, and goes to pull her off Xiumin—or Minseok, she doesn't know what she calls him anymore—but as soon as her hand touches her, they're ripped away, thrown to the side like a rag doll. She doesn't get back up.
"Don't touch her."
This feat of strength is enough to scare Y/N, but not enough to make her pull away from Xiumin. Xiumin is trying to wriggle out of her grasp, but she won't let him go. The man who pulled the female away from her previously holds out a hand, asking her kindly to get off Xiumin.
Needless to say, she doesn't.
"Dearest, we won't hurt him anymore."
Y/N's not that dumb. His smile is fake and she's repulsed by the pet name and she's disgusted by the audacity of this man in front of her.
She's so angry she stands, pulling Xiumin to his feet also because she's afraid they'll wrench him away if she lets go for even a second.
The man leans down, smiling still, and she spits, right in his eye.
"Fuck you. D-Don't touch me."
She saw what he did to Yixing and to D.O back at the house. She won't let him do the same to Xiumin. She'd kill him. She'd tear him to shreds if she could.
Taemin steps forward, ready to grab her, but the man holds his hand up, and that halts him.
"My name is Onew, but you can have pleasure of calling me Jinki."
She gets ready to attack him, but Xiumin murmurs something from where his head is now buried in her neck.
"Let go."
"W-What? No!"
He somehow still wrenches his head from her grasp, and steps away from her.
As soon as he's apart from her, she's grabbed from behind, the grip on her forearms familiar and lighting a fire of pain on her arms.
She grunts in pain, and two angry voices yell out.
"Let her go!"
One's Xiumin, and the other one is unrecognizable, and the man who grasped her lets go immediately, and walks away shamefully.
"Just leave Minseok alone! Please.." Her voice is soft and her throat is raw, and her hand goes up to where Xiumin was grabbed by a female again, reaching out into air, tears leaking down her face.
"We can't do that."
"And why not?!"
Onew looks down at her, hand touching his chin, as if pondering something, and then smiles wickedly. He glowers down at her, and all of a sudden he looks more threatening than welcoming like earlier.
"We can't exactly give you to another man, can we?"
Another man? What? She splutters, and doesn't know how to reply.
"Y/N-ah, you seem a little hostile, I think you just need a nap."
"J-Just please, Jinki, let him be."
His name sounds and feels rotten coming from her lips, leaving a horrible taste in her mouth. She wanted to slap him and leave, but she couldn't exactly with him here.
At his birthname coming from her lips, his smile turned less wicked, and his hand came down to tuck hair behind her ear.
She shudders. If they didn't have Xiumin and if she wasn't such a big baby he would be halfway dead by now. He's lucky she's scared to death of everything.
"I think we can let him go for once. If Y/N-ah thinks he deserves a second chance, doesn't he?"
Y/N doesn't know when she became such a big figure in whatever this is but apparently she is, so she makes her eyes go as big as she can, and her lip quiver a small bit, playing with her fingers.
Onew smiles at her, winking and she knows he's fallen for it. Hook, line, and sinker.
There are murmurs of agreement around her, but she can tell nobody is really keen on the idea. Especially Taemin. He's glowering at her and looks ready to kill. She can tell she's won by the way he clenches his fists and tears line his eyes.
She's concerned for a moment, but then remembers what he did to Kai, so most if not all care for this boy leaves. She won't forgive him for what he did. He's blacklisted forever, especially since he vision of Kai's injuries won't leave her brain, hiding shine her eyelids every time she's in Taemin's presence.
Onew releases Minseok from the rope, and immediately she runs up to him, checking his wrists and his cheek and inspecting him for more injuries, making sure he's not in more danger.
At the realization he's fine, she breathes in relief.
Thank god.
Onew comes up behind her, tapping her on the shoulder.
"You didn't think his reprieve is free, do you?"
Nothing is ever that easy when it comes to her, is it?
"O-Of course not."
Xiumin goes to step in front of her, but Onew presses his palm flat to Xiumin's chest, whooshing the air out of his lungs audibly. If this weren't such a tense situation, she probably would have laughed. Needless to say she doesn't end up laughing. Her face is straight as stone.
"Well, I think I can find a way for you to repay me for my mercy."______________________________________
Xiumin huffs, doing up the laces of the corset on the back, pouting slightly.
"Of all things, a maid?"
"I-I don't know, he's odd and perverted."
"I don't like him."
"You think I do?"
Xiumin chortles a little bit, smiling at her in the mirror and shrugging.
"No, not really."
She gasps a little bit in pain, but other than that, the room is quiet, almost silent.
"Xiumin, should I call you that or Minseok?"
Xiumin thinks for a little bit, and just shrugs.
They fall into silence whilst he finishes tying the corset together, and she goes and slips on her thigh highs. She has no shoes, so she resigns to the ones with bloodstains. She's gotten used to them, and oddly the comfort of wearing something from the house is nice. She wonders what they're doing right now. She wonders if they know where her and Xiumin went, how far away it is from here.
A knock on the door breaks her out of her silence, and she waves at Xiumin because she presumes it's Taeyeon coming to tell her to go to Onew's office or den to wait on him.
"Y/N!"
She was right.
She opens the door and almost as soon as it's open Taeyeon squeals and grabs her wrist and drags her towards the stairs, down to a hallway unfamiliar to a room filled with a television and five chairs, all of them with someone occupying it.
"Ah, Y/N dearest, you've joined us! You look great." All of them except Taemin smile at her Key beckoning her over to his chair, and when she goes to refill his drink, he instead pulls her into a tight hug.
She doesn't know how to react, so she just stiffens, and her arms wrap loosely around Key's back, hanging a centimetre away from actual contact.
"Key-ah, don't hog her." She's pulled away from him by Onew, who wraps an arm around her shoulder, smiling down at her. His smile still makes her nauseous, but she stomachs it because Xiumin is in their room by himself, and she wishes for it to stay that way.
She manages a half-smile back, and he peels away from her, lounging back on the chairs. She takes a tray with drinks on it and walks around the room, and she's nervous prancing around them in such short a dress and at such a vulnerable time in her life. Xiumin is on the line.
The next few hours are uneventful, but at one point Jonghyun offers her a place on his lap, and after looking over to Onew—who she assumes is "in charge" of her—and getting 'permission' from him, she gets to sit down and rest, but the entire time she is stiff and keeps her hands firmly planted on her lap.
Taemin glares at her the entire time, as if she killed his entire family. Y/N tries to ignore him but she can't, not now, not five minutes from now, not ever. She's always been sensitive, and she can't help it. This boy who attempted to kill one of her friends is getting to her more than she'd care to admit.
Tears frame her eyes and stick to her lashes, and she sniffles quietly hoping nobody will notice. Again, she's not so lucky. As soon as she starts sniffling, a face is up close to hers, and she recognizes it as Minho—she thinks—and his hands are lifting up to wipe away at her tears, smiling gently.
After this, she comes to the conclusion she likes him more than Onew and Jonghyun.
"Y/N-ah, who did this?! I'll kill them!" She doesn't think Onew will kill Taemin.
She doesn't say it was Taemin, but says something she hopes will get her somewhere like home instead.
"I-I'm homesick, J-Jinki." Her eyes fleet up at him, and she's getting really good at acting.
"Oh, sweetheart, there's nothing we can do about that." Onew's voice is soft.
All of a sudden, things are falling out of her mouth before her brain can think about it first.
"I miss D.O and L-Luhan and Kai," Taemin hisses in the corner, "and all of the g-guys at the house."
Key comes down and kneels in front of her, holding his hands on her pink cheeks, smiling at her, and purses his lips, thinking for a moment about what to say. His eyes brighten up, and he smiles even brighter.
"Build a bridge, and get over it."
