"Chen?! Chen?!" She sees him writhing on the floor, eyes clenched tightly shut, one hand gripping at his head and the other at his stomach. Yifan looks ready to run over, but she glares at him to get him back down because she doesn't know what she'll do if he gets worse.
"A-Argh!" His mouth is open, dark red liquid dripping from the sides, and she's not entirely sure if she can handle this.
"Shh, Chen you're okay, y-y-you're fine." She tries shushing him, but she's not making any progress, and it's all useless.
"Y/N, he's.."
"I know! I know what's happening Yifan!"
She doesn't mean to yell at him but she's so stressed she doesn't know what else to do.
"Get me a towel please!" The end is tacked on out of habit.
Yifan slips over himself going to get one, and she feels bad but she can't afford to think of anything but Chen right now.
Salty tears are streaking down her cheeks, and she's too busy holding Chen's head from where he began to smash it against the pillows to wipe them away, so her vision is blurred.
Yifan comes back with a towel, and she presses it to Chen's mouth, trying to remove as much blood as possible from the corners of his mouth. She orders Yifan to get her all the dining room chairs, and sits Chen up.
He's coughing and spluttering, and his face has gone red and she can barely tell what's going on since her vision is so hazed and she can barely hear anything but Chen.
"Y-Y-You'll be okay. He'll be okay, I promise." She doesn't know who the last part is directed at, since nobody is around or listening since Yifan and she thinks Kai are getting chairs, and she thinks Baekhyun is rubbing her back, but she can barely feel his touch ghosting against her spine.
She lays Chen down so his face is directed towards the floor and puts the towel by where his mouth would be, and watches the blood trickle like a leaky faucet out of his mouth. She prays she's not killing him, and just sits back away from him, breathing heavily and rocking slightly because he's dying, she knows he is.
"Y/N, he's, s-strong, he'll live."
"D-Don't, don't say that to me."
The blood leaking out of his mouth hurts her eyes, only because she's seen it before, felt it, the inability to keep your mouth closed because you can't breathe on the liquid clogging your throat. It's scary.
He's conscious enough to give her a thumbs up, and she almost falls over when he does so because even dying he is a prick.
Baekhyun chuckles and Kai chortles and Yifan and Chanyeol just smile but Y/N clutches her blood-stained clothing and just stares at the blotches of yellowing red and clenches her fists because she doesn't want to look at blood any longer.
She flees.
She stands quickly and walks downstairs, since she hadn't seen Yixing since she laid him down when this all started. He looks fine, just like he's resting, but Chen looked like that too before this, so she doesn't feel content at all.
A hand on the small of her back startles her.
"Hey, hey, it's just me."
It's Chanyeol.
"O-Oh, sorry."
She's sheepish for getting scared so easily by him, and shrinks into herself out of habit, slinking away from him slightly, just because she's not used to him speaking to her. Not alone, not this softly, not this nicely, not at all.
"Jongdae will be fine. He's strong. Like you."
"J-Jongdae? Is that his name?"
Chanyeol nods, looking at Yixing with sharp eyes, like he's investigating his friend, but then suddenly they soften, and he turns and looks at her. He motions upstairs, and she assumes he'll talk about Chen again.
"He was injured pretty badly from back when you were taken. He was still recovering when we found you. Guess he just did too much too fast."
"Do all of y-you get like that?"
Chanyeol softly laughs, a deep rumble Y/N hasn't heard in a while.
"No. Not always."
She smiles at him too, and she hopes this means he forgives her.
He turns to leave at her silence, but she reaches out, touching his shoulder softly.
"What did I do to make you hate me?"
He doesn't respond, and just shakes out of her slack grip, walking back upstairs.
--
"Y/N! Do you want me to change Chen's towel?"
"Yes please."
Since then, Suho and Yixing have awoken, and they are almost ready to walk, but she's reluctant to let them, since it didn't take very long for any of them to heal. It's like they're some sort of superhuman.
She wishes she was like them, since her back has been taking forever to heal, but the bruises on her sides and thighs have gotten considerably better in the last little while, and she's almost forgotten they are there.
Suho changes Chen's towel, and she tells him to throw it out, since because blood is so hard to get out—that and the fact she doesn't know how to get said liquid out of fabric—she figures it's easier to just trash all items with it on.
She'll buy D.O new clothes later.
"Y/N, I think Jongdae is awake."
As if in response, Chen groans, leaning off the chairs and flopping on the ground with a thud. She runs over quickly, wincing at her back, and puts him back up, and wipes with her hand at the blood trickling out of his mouth with her hand.
After going to wash her hands she returns, resting a hand on his shoulder, asking Suho to get the soup she's been feeding people out of the cupboards so she can prepare it.
She feeds the people still passed out, because obviously they can't do it themselves, and she also feeds Baekhyun despite the fact he is healthy enough to do it himself because he asked nicely.
Jongdae mutters something from his chairs, and she walks over to hear it.
"Damn Jinki and his damn laced knives."
She doesn't know what it means, but by the way Suho stiffens after, she doesn't want to know.
"Is that soup I smell?"
Tao, like he wasn't just passed out for two days, walks into the kitchen, leaning against the door, smiles.
"You're awake!"
"And feeling much better thanks to Y/N, M.D."
Y/N's face heats up, and she smiles at him, handing him a bowl, and asking him to help feed when he's finished. He playfully pouts, and walks out to enjoy his lunch nicely. She's glad he's okay.
"Y/N?"
"Yes, whiney pants?"
She's dubbed Jongdae that since he woke up, since after the blood stopped coming from his mouth, he's been whining the whole time. She can't say she hasn't given him what he's asked for though.
"Take a break."
"W-What?"
"Can you hear? I told you to slow down. You'll hurt yourself."
"Jongdae! I'll do whatever I can n-now. Now hush, or no soup."
"When's the last time you ate?"
She looks down, and tries to think, and just now she feels the emptiness of her stomach, but she ignores it and smiles at him, since if she has some there won't be enough for everyone else.
"While you were sleeping. I'm just not hungry, okay?"
Just now, like the nuisance he is, Baekhyun decides to speak up.
"I don't remember that, Y/N-ah."
Sehun, who's also awake, pipes up too.
"Noona, you need to eat also."
Y/N smiles at them all, drawing back to the kitchen.
"I'll eat when everyone is awake, okay?"
Jongdae just pouts even more.
He tries to shout from his chairs, but his voice breaks halfway through.
"You're t-too skinny Y/N!"
"Hush!"
She continues making the soup—or "souping" as Kai put it—and hums a song softly, stirring the broth and vegetables slowly over the heat while she listens to Baekhyun tell a vivid recount of Chen's earlier episode to Tao, who makes over exaggerated gagging noises every so often, and Jongdae wails about him exaggerating the story and she smiles.
She's glad they're okay.
"C'mon, it probably wasn't that gross!"
"And then, Y/N had to wipe it up with her hands!"
"Eurgh!"
"Baekhyun I'm sure you're making this up!"
She's still stirring when Suho enters the kitchen, getting bowls from the cupboards quietly.
She laughs at their banter softly, and she hears Suho echo her.
"They're quite the bunch, aren't they?"
She nods in affirmation, listening to the sizzle of liquid and the clink of bowls since the living room went quiet.
"T-Thank you."
Suho stuttering sounds odd, so she turns, and sees a lone tear trail down his cheeks, but he's smiling, and she's confused.
"F-For what?"
"Everything. The soup, medical attention, everything. I'm confident Chen wouldn't be alive if it weren't for you."
She severely doubts this theory, but thanks him anyways, because it was really nothing in comparison to what these people have done for her in the last few days anyways.
"It was re-eally nothing, I swear! I didn't really d-do anything!"
She's shaking her head and hands furiously, trying to convince him she didn't have as big of a role in their lives as he thinks she has, but he just softly chuckles at Y/N's antics.
"Suho, it was-"
"Joonmyun."
"-n't really a b-what?"
"My name. My real one. It's Joonmyun."
Joonmyun. It's a nice name. She likes it. Now that she looks at him, he looks like a Joonmyun.
She's making that up, but now she can call him by something more intimate than a nickname, and this is a level of friendship she wasn't expecting.
"I-I like that name. It suits you."
"Thank you, I like your name too."
It's delved into somewhere awkward, so she doesn't respond, and returns to souping. Joonmyun chuckles softly at this, and brings her the bowls and ladle, and tells her that he'll bring in Kai and Baekhyun to help as well.
"But why do I have to?!"
"To be fair, Baekhyun did do it yesterday, why can't Tao do it?"
"Yifan nobody asked for your opinion."
"Nobody asked you to be rude either but here you are."
There's silence, followed by a collective "ooh, burn." and Y/N hates—and loves—all of these dorks and just ladles the soup into bowls herself and brings them to the sleeping people, starting with D.O and ending with Yixing.
While she does this, the boys watch her in awe with how careful she is, and how caring she is with lifting their heads and scooping up the broth into their lips, but leaving the vegetables, since she forgot they can't exactly chew unconsciously.
When she's done, she brings the bowls back to the kitchen, heading out to finally move Jongdae from the chairs to the couch, letting him rest nicely. It takes a few tries and help from Joonmyun and Baekhyun since he's heavy, but she manages, and when she's done she has some leftover soup, and just talks with Baekhyun and Chanyeol and plays their crude board game into the late night, going to sleep smiling and content, glad she's back.
But then, she gets thirsty, and goes downstairs to get s bottle of water, to see Sehun sitting up from his makeshift bed, fiddling with his fingers and covers, staring off into the space in front of him.
She walks over, swiping her hand through his vision, and he jumps.
"A-Are you okay?" She whispers.
"I'm fine, j-just fine."
He's not, and by the tear tracks she can see in the faint light of the moon from the window there's tear tracks lining his cheeks. She smiles softly, and clasps her hand on his shoulder, making him look her right in the eyes.
"Bad dream?"
Sehun's face looks conflicted, like he's not sure what to say, but visibly deflates, and sighs, eyes brimmed with new tears, and he nods solemnly.
She smiles at him, telling him to grab a pillow, and leads him upstairs, forgetting her water, and she tells him he's welcome to sleep in D.O's bed, but he shakes his head, and blushes lightly as he speaks softly in the room.
"C-Could I, I don't know, sleep with you?"
She smiles at his embarrassment, and his childish behaviour, and beckons him and his pillow over to her bed as she makes room for him, and in the close confines of the bed she can feel his body heat, and it makes her smile.
"Goodnight, Sehun."
She whispers in the dark, feeling him sink into the bed, comfortable and obviously more content than he was in the bed downstairs surrounded with his friends for some reason.
"Y/N?"
She makes eye contact with him, and his eyes are wide, and innocent, and she wonders why his personality has taken a one-eighty.
"Yes, Sehunnie?"
"Will everyone be alright?"
She smiles wider and chuckles softly, lifting her hand to cup softly at his cheek, looking him straight in the eyes, following them whenever they try to leave hers, and speaks slowly and softly to him, like she's trying not to scare wildlife.
"I promise you, everyone will be okay. Luhan, D.O, Yixing, Xiumin, everyone. As long as you smile, they'll be fine."
"W-What does me smiling mean to them?"
"Smiling means hope, hope means something to hang onto in the bad times. If I frown all day, will you smile?"
Sehun ponders this, and finally shakes his head firmly.
"So if you stop living, so will they."
Sehuns eyes brim again, and hers mimick his, and they just lay, softly crying and sniffling, thinking. She wishes she could read Sehun's mind in this moment, but she can't, so she hopes he understands.
"Y/N?"
"Sehun?"
"Will you not tell anyone about this tomorrow?"
She makes a zipping motion at her lips, and he smiles at her, and they lay, eyes closed, and she hopes Sehun has a good dream this time around.
But when she hears him faintly snore, and feels his arms subconsciously snake around her waist, smile beaming in the dark room, she knows he will.
