Jennifer. Her name just kinda rolls off the tongue. Jen-i-ffer. She was so adorable. And we already have so much in common! We have the same hair color. We have the same eye color. I mean, it's gotta mean something if I felt something as soon as I saw her. I just got so excited and it's like my body wanted to hit the brakes like a car because I wanted to get a good look at her and talk to her.
But hey, if she's still having trouble with math, maybe she'll remember what I said. Unless she has a boyfriend or something. But there's no way! We just started the school year! Worrying about her having a boyfriend isn't my main concern right now. Right now, it's finding the right pair of swim trunks.
Not too big to the point they'll embarrassingly fall off of me in the pool, but not too tight to where my stomach will somehow hang out (Donnie and I are kind of lanky, anyway.). I had a few pairs to choose from in my closet since my mom and I like to go to the cape in New Jersey a lot and swim.
I was down to my final two: Rainbow or solid dark purple...
I guess if I wear them right way, the purple trunks wouldn't be too bad, right? I figured I should go check on Donnie at this point and see how he's doing with his find...
I go over to my brick-for-a-phone, and call up Donnie. Since we're next-door neighbors, our windows are right next to each other's upstairs. "Donnie? You there?"
"Yeah. This better be good." He replied a little annoyed.
"Open your window." And we opened our windows in unison and saw each other across between a twenty-foot drop.
"What do you want?" He hung up the phone and called out to me through the window this time.
"I wanted to know if you found a pair of swim trunks, yet!"
"Um, sort of... You caught me right in the middle of trying to find a stupid pair!" He said, now crawling on his bedroom floor looking through piles of clothes. "This is a bad time, Jordan. We just moved in, so I haven't gotten the chance to get organized, yet."
"Well, if you need a pair, I got these tie-dye looking ones over here! And what's with the attitude?" I asked, showing him the trunks through the window.
"You know, I might need to borrow those. And what attitude? I'm just a little stressed is all. I just wanna make a good impression on her, just in case she ever found out that I used to be a flirt and still thinks I am... You know what? Gimme the tie-dye trunks, they look kinda cool."
"So you do think she found out!" I smirked. "Ready to give up?"
"You kidding? I just got started!" He smirked back. "Hey, do you think you could toss me the trunks now? Thanks."
I get my remote-control helicopter and wrap the trunks on a string that's attached to the chopper. I send it over before it gets too tired from the weight of the shorts, and Donnie catches it like it's a football. "No problem!"
Donnie announces, "Alright! Let's go to a pool party!"
