The next day, I tried to give myself a fresh start. A new morning! A new morning without Stephanie to talk to... But that wasn't the point. The point was, I was going to Jordan's house to have him tutor me in math! But it doesn't have to be about math. It could be about chemistry...
My nerves flood through my hand, making my index finger shake as it pushes Jordan's doorbell. It opened almost immediately after, revealing a derpy Jordan with an extra cute poof of his hair.
"Oh hey, Jennifer! C'mon in!" He smiled and held the door for me. I walked inside and saw how cozy his house looked. And... it smelled like cookies!
He led me into the kitchen where I saw his mother taking out freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. She gave a warm smile toward me.
"Jennifer, this is my mama. Mama, this is Jennifer." Jordan introduced.
"Hello, Mrs. Knight!" I greeted.
"Hi there, Jennifer. Jordan's told me lots about you!" She smirked.
"Mama!" Jordan nudged. "Anyway, lemme show you my bedroom, or in this case, Tyrone's house!" Oh, Tyrone... Jordan, how long will this phase continue!? You're fourteen!!
He led me upstairs and into a room that had a Sit n' Bounce in the corner, a propeller hat hanging off one of the knobs of his bed frame, and the total Atari game set ready to played whenever he was ready.
It was kinda sweet, I mean, if you're into Toys R Us, then totally...
"So what do you think?" He smiled satisfyingly.
"It's kinda cute - I mean, cool." I wince, still taking in the bright colors of his wall.
"Thanks! So, let's get started!" He went over to his bed and cracked open his math textbook. "How about I help you with problem twenty five. Is this what you've been working on? In your class?"
At this point, I didn't care. I couldn't believe I'd actually made it to Jordan's bedroom! Call me crazy, but I felt like I had to make a move... Nothing drastic, but my goal was to get him to at least kiss me.
I sat next to him, and ran my fingers through his hair, "You know, Jordan, I think I already did that problem. You wanna help me with another one?"
"Sure. Which one? And any reason you're playing with my hair?" Shoot. He didn't get the hint.
I felt like Punky Brewster; scrambling to get the guy's attention... What was wrong with me? But I tried one more time and grabbed his knee. "I'm not sure, give me something... easy..." But Jordan continued to have his nose in that stupid book!
"Alright, how about question - ?" I swat the book out of his hand and it thuds to the ground.
"How about a different subject? What about... chemistry?" I smirk.
Jordan's brain seemed to switch gears at first, but he seemed more concerned than lovey. "Jennifer? Are you ok? Did you not put on enough sun block? Because you never said anything about chemistry until now."
"Jordan, it's raining outside."
"I don't care! Maybe the rain hit you too hard! Now, you wanna see my quarter collection?" Jordan walks over to this little case full of quarters from each state.
"I'm not really in the mood..." I slumped disappointed.
"Ok, well, how about tomorrow I pick up some McDonald's for us, and I'll bring you to my secret hide-out! It's this treehouse my grand-pa-pa build when I was two. I've never shown it to anybody before. Not my mama, not Stephanie, obviously, and not even Donnie! But it's not like he even matters, anymore... But anyway, you wanna come?" He looked sad when he talked about Donnie, but perked up when he asked me.
His treehouse? It sounds kinda cheesy, but I knew this was sentimental for him, so I said, "Um, ok, sure. Why not?"
His whole face lit up like a movie premiere. "Alright! It's a da - I mean, activity! It'll be one big activity!" I sighed disappointedly. Just spit it out, man! I'm not gonna bite!
"Right! Well, I'll see you tomorrow, then!" I start making my way down the stairs.
I open the front door, but Jordan stops me when he calls, "Hey Jennifer! Hope I helped you with all your math tutoring needs!" He winked.
Did he actually figure out what I was trying to do..? Wait...
