Chapter 17

Jennifer's POV:
Joseph questioned "How do you know that the vampires exists"? All the colour left my face and I became pale.

*Flash back*
(Two years before)
It was a cold chilly night I and my best friend Anna were staying late for work at our bakery deciding on what to keep our special for tomorrow.

"Jen, let's bake apple pie and crunchy choco balls for tomorrow's special" said Anna with sparkles in her eyes, "Yes, so that instead of the customers, My Anna can have all the sweets for herself right" I said with a knowing smile. She pouted "I am not telling for myself, it's for the customers". "Okay fine, then tomorrow's special is Apple pie and crunchy choco balls..... for Anna".

She smiled but after a moment when she fully understood what I said, she ran after me. After cleaning everything we kept the aprons at the rack and checked the time, it was 11:15. "Oh my, we are very late, we will have to walk fast or we will miss the last cart" said Anna with a concerned look. I nodded and picked up my pace.

The roads were empty and not a single soul was out. Suddenly we heard a loud scream coming from an alley. We both went running there and saw a man in his late twenties laying on the road and blood was gushing out of his stomach. We rushed to his side and asked "What happened, who did this"? "Jen, go and find someone for help, I will stay here with him" said Anna.

Without wasting a second, I went out on the streets but to no avail, there was no one, I even shouted for help but got no response. All of the sudden, I heard another scream, it was Anna. I rushed into the alley and saw that the man who was wounded, had trapped Anna on the wall.

I went there and tried to get him off of her but he was very strong. I kicked and punched him. This made him angry and he let go of Anna and grabbed my wrists.
At that time I got a good look at his face. His eyes which were black, had turned a crimson red and he had two fangs. But before he could bite me Anna started throwing stones at him. He threw me at a nearby wall, grabbed Anna by her shoulder and inserted his fangs in her neck. She screamed in agonizing pain.

But before I could reach her she said with tears in her eyes "Jen..Jennifer g..go run, ask so..someone for he..help". By this time I had tears streaming down my cheeks. "No I wo..won't go without y..you" I sobbed. With a small smile she said "Run Jennifer, for me, get some help". Inspite of the pain in my back, I ran with all might towards the cart. Looking me in such condition, all the men asked me "what happened"? I pointed towards Anna's direction and said, "She ne...needs help".

They all followed me to the alley way. But to my horror there was no one. No trace of Anna and that vampire anywhere. From that day onwards I never saw Anna again and even her body was not found. After that incident I left that town, scared that, that vampire would come back to finish what he started.
*End of flash back *

Again tears were streaming down my face. Joseph was moving his hand in front of my face. "Jennifer, is everything alright" he asked with concern in his voice. "I am sorry, I made you remember something which you don't like" he said looking guilty.

I calmed myself down and said "It's okay, you didn't know it". He said "If you ever want to talk about it, I am always here". I nodded with a small smile. Standing up he said "It's getting late, you must get some sleep" and went to his room.
