The air was filled with a comfortable silence as the family around the small rectangular table, there was just the scraping of plates as they finished off.
'How was it?' Asked Candace,
'Amazing, thanks mum.' Replied Alexa.
'Yea, that was great. Thanks, I should probably get home soon though. My flatmate might get worried.' Said Dan.
'Oh okay. You should invite them for dinner sometime, what's their name?'
'Phil, and I will do, thanks. See you soon, Lexa. You too.' Replied Dan, he turned around to leave.
'See you soon, guys.'
'Bye, Dan.' Alexa called,
'Thanks for dinner mum, I'm going to do some homework. See you in the morning.'

Both women in the household had trouble sleeping that night; Alexa was in her white-walled room, staring blankly at the posters of bands and youtubers above her bed thinking about how different her life would be now. She wasn't an only child, she had a brother. One that wasn't a part of her life at all before, but he could be from now on, right?  She had grown used to seeing Dan through the screen, and when she first saw him, she saw him as Danisnotonfire.  Could that change? He seemed like such a nice person, and she smiled.  She packed up her books and turned off the light.  She climbed into bed and, as her eyes began to shut, she promised herself that from here on she would stand by Dan in anything and everything. That's family right?

Candace was thinking along the same lines as Alexa except for the fact that Dan was her son, not brother. She lay in the dark being unable to remove the image of Dan from her mind, he was so tall and sweet now. Just like she had pictured him to be. And he looked so much alike to Scott! He had his deep brown eyes with specks of gold when he smiled, his light brown hair that shines in the sunlight and his bright and happy personality.  The guilt she had over leaving Dan at the adoption home years ago crushed her.  But seeing Dan now, how nice he was, made her happy.  She had got what she wished for.  She feel into a peaceful, dreamless sleep with a smile on her face.

Dan was also not sleeping (not that he did often at this time of night, it being only 11pm),he was sat on his sofa with Phil having gone to bed a few hours ago. He sat there thinking of how growing up he never felt like he fit in, he realised this partly when he was told he was adopted and his life was changed quite a bit.  Althoigh, with his biological family he felt like he did fit in. They were so happy and loving, Dan could tell both Lexa and Candace had an amazing bond that wasn't just mother-daughter. Lexa took after her mother, her jet black hair and stunning, glittering green eyes. Her friendly and playful personality reminded him of himself around Phil, they had a similar smirk when they teased and when he used the bathroom he noticed the posters of bands and youtubers, him and Phil included, on her walls from her bedroom door being ajar. He let out a chuckle and got up off the sofa to go to bed, he promised himself that now he had his real family, he would keep them in his life.
