Prelude ft. Legolas

Chapter 2

(Galene's POV)

I wake up by something being tied around my stomach. My eyes flutter open and I see Legolas. The others are still asleep, but I don't think it'll take long till they wake up. Legolas probably tied me back to the tree so the others wouldn't know that he untied me last night.

When he's done he just lays back on his bed, pretending to be asleep. A few minutes later the guy wakes up. I still don't know his, or the dwarf's names. He stands up and wakes the others. He makes me free from the tree and I stand up, stretching out a little bit.

I walk around for a bit because my legs hurt a little, but soon the dwarf already drags me back. Then the guy does something weird. He holds his ear against a rock. I look at him, confused. But he doesn't notice. ''There are more orcs, traveling to another town. We have to go there.''

I think he  can hear it via the sound of their footsteps or something. The others simply nod and pack their bags. When everyone's done they get on their horses. ''Is it okay if she travels with you again?'' The guy asks Legolas. Legolas nods his head and stands with his horse in front of me. I try to get on the horse myself, but since my hands are tied, I don't succeed.

Legolas jumps off his horse and grabs me by my waist, putting me on the horse so easy, as if I weight nothing.  I look away, embarrassed that I couldn't do it myself. I look to the others, and they didn't seem to notice, which kinda relieves me. I don't want to show them I am a little weak.

When Legolas also jumps on his horse, we all travel north. I don't know which town the guy was speaking of, but I hope we arrive soon. We travel extremely fast, they're all good riders. I'm trying hard not to fall off the horse, but it's really difficult since I can't really hold on to something.

After a few hours riding, I loose my balance and fall off the horse. I meet the ground and I feel a pain in my head. It must have looked really funny, I hope no one saw it. But because I know I looked like an idiot I start laughing really hard. I ignore the pain in my head, and try to stand up, while laughing.

The others seem to notice I fell, and turn around their horses to me. They quickly approach me, they probably thought I wanted to run away. I try to stop laughing but I keep grinning a little bit. I see their faces turning from concerned, to smiling, realizing what just happend. The dwarf starts laughing and the others join him.

I don't blame them for laughing though, I also laugh a little. Then the guy jumps off his horse, walking towards me. ''Are you alright?'' I nod. He studies my face and sees that on the side my head is bleeding a little bit. He frowns and rips a small part of his sleeve off, bonding it around my head. I kinda feel bad because I also could have used my own sleeve, but my hands are tied.

''Thank you'' I say quietly, looking to the ground. He nods and helps me back on Legolas' horse. We start riding again, and Legolas reaches with one arm back. He grabs my wrist to keep me on my place. He keeps holding it like that, and I'm thankful for it. It must be difficult for him to ride with one hand though.

When it's getting dark they decide to make a camp to rest for the night. I wonder why they sleep so much at night, while they are travelling. Maybe they have more time than I used to have before arriving to their destiny. I try to get off the horse myself, which I succeed in, just a little bit clumsy.

They eat lembas bread again. I have never eaten it before, but I know it's elvish food. I wonder why they don't just hunt and eat real meat. After they've eaten it, the dwarf ties me against a tree, and I role my eyes, knowing I won't get much sleep now. ''Someone has to keep watch tonight. We can't risk all sleeping while the orcs can attack us. Who can stay awake?'' the guy asks.

Gandalf and Legolas offer to keep watch, each a few hours. I try to get comfortable and close my eyes. After a few hours I wake up again. Legolas switched with Gandalf, and is keeping watch now. I just stare to the trees for a while, close my eyes, but I can't seem to fall asleep again. My wrists hurt so bad, and the rope around my stomach is really tight.

I know if they'd all be asleep now, I could run away. I still have my knives in my jacket, I could try to cut the ropes through. But since Legolas is also awake, I know I will fail if I would try it now.

The time passes slowly, and after a few hours the others also wake up. They pack their stuff, and we're on the road again. Legolas holds my wrist, so I won't fall.

After riding for a long time, we suddenly hear an arrow shot at us. Orcs. We turn around and see a group of orcs coming to us. There are like 80 of them. We go in the direction of the orcs, and I'm kinda annoyed that I don't have my own horse. They all take their swords out, and don't bother giving me one. We arrive at the group orcs and soon a few of them are already killed. Legolas cuts a head off one orc, and stabs another one in his stomach. When he runs a little further, I jump off the horse, without Legolas noticing, because he is so focused on the orcs.

I clumsy take one knife out my jacket, and start cutting the rope around my wrists. I see one orc coming to me, so I have to hurry. When I cut myself free, I immediately throw the knife at the orc that was coming my way. It cuts right through his head, and I smile. I haven't fought for days, and I missed it. I cut another orc's throat and see Legolas coming to me, and I quickly jump on the back of the horse.

I want to use his bow and arrow, but I know he won't give it to me. I throw another knife into an orcs head, and Legolas cuts with his sword a head off and orc. Then an orc shoots an arrow into the stomach of the horse we're on, and the horse jumps around. Legolas and I quickly jump off the horse, and we start fighting from the ground.

Legolas throws his sword at me, and I smile at him, as a thank you, and he smiles back. He uses his arrow and bow to kill many orcs, he's really good at this. I see the guy has also killed a few orcs, and the dwarf stands on the ground, which makes fighting for him a bit more difficult.

I cut a head off an orc, and see a knife, hitting the person a few meters away from me. Legolas. I run to him, and he is lucky since it only hit his arm. I give him the knives out my pocket, so he can still throw those, because I know shooting arrows with one hurt arm won't succeed. ''Let me use your arrow and bow?'' I ask him. He shakes his head. ''Please, killing orcs with a bow is faster then a sword.'' I say.

He hesitates for a moment but then hands me his bow and arrow, and I thank him. He throws another knife at a orc who was too close, and I turn around. It feels so good finally shooting with a bow again. A few minutes later I've already killed many orcs, and I notice there aren't many more left.

I see an orc approaching the guy, but he doesn't seem to notice, so I shoot an arrow, right through the orc's head. I smile a little bit, proud of myself. Legolas is surrounded by a few orcs, but seems to be fine. Even though he only has the knifes. He stabs one in the stomach, turns around and cuts another one's throat. He punches the orc left to him with his good arm, and bows a little bit when the right orc tries to hit him with his axe. He quickly stands up again and put the knife into the right orc, but doesn't notice the orc on the left has stand up again. I take an arrow, and quickly shoot the left orc down.

Legolas sees I shot the orc down and he smiles. I punch the orc behind me with my arm, and shoot it with an arrow. The orc on my right tries to cut me with his sword, but before he hits me I kick him in the stomach and cut off his head with his own sword. I look around and see the dwarf killing the last orc left.

Disclaimer: This story is not like how it goes in the books or in the movies. I changed things, because else Galene can't really fit in the story of course.
