The next day M introduced her to Z at break and it was far from what she had hoped. She hoped that he was a jerk and the reason that M was so miserable, so she could stop crushing on him. But he was anything but a jerk, he was polite, sensitive, and charming. During the whole time M was giving her a look of warning and concern, she would have to ask about that later. He paid such good attention to her and he was funny too! at one point he looked into her eyes and said:
"We have the exact same eyes". then he whispered in her ear." Maybe it's a sign."
It was true, they had the exact same eyes the only difference was his eyes had a slight tint of gold. She didn't really believe in signs but this was probably the time to make an exception. She might just make an exception for anything he did at this point because he was funny, polite, sensitive, charming, romantic and perfect.
When break ended she didn't want to go to AP Human Geography. She wanted to talk to Z more and get to know him more. She thought about Z all the way to the classroom door until she saw what Professor wrote on the white board.
N.A.T.O.-
Atomic bomb-
During class Professor discussed current events and explained the terms on the board. she was having trouble paying attention though, she knew what an atom bomb was. They were created during world war 2 when one was dropped on Hiroshima. She got bits and pieces of what N.A.T.O. was, it was some sort of trade alliance between America, Canada and Mexico.
The rest of the day flew by like a bird. She ate lunch in the courtyard with her best friend. She was so ready to go to her best friends to hang out and just be girls. On the bus they listened to music together just like they did in middle school. When they got to her best friends stop she gave the bus driver the note from her parents and got off. The first thing they did was make an afternoon snack of Cheetos and Diet Coke.
"I'm still hungry." She declared after they finished the Cheetos.
" Lets see what else we have... do you want a fried egg?" her best friend asked.
" I didn't know you could fry eggs. I thought you would need a deep fryer for that? she said confused.
" Oh my god! you've never had a fried egg?" she gasped. "I will make you one."
"No, I was raised on scrambled eggs, I've never had one so yeah make me one if you want." she responded.
Her best friend made a good fried egg, the very first she had ever tasted. Turns out you don't need a deep fryer to fry an egg you just need a pan and a small amount of olive oil. Everything about the egg was different than what she'd ever known, instead of fluffy it felt flat like a dense pancake on her tongue. The taste was different too she couldn't describe it but she would always put ketchup on her eggs but when she tried it with the fried version it was gross.
They finished their snacks and walked into her best friends room and suggested that they go swimming. Her goal was to do something she normally wouldn't or couldn't do on a school night at home and this was on the list. She had to borrow one of her best friend's swimsuits since she didn't bring her own. While they were swimming she opened a conversation about boys and her best friend didn't miss a beat.
"You like that red head guy that you were staring at on the first day don't you?" her best friend cheered.
" yeah I do" she blushed. " I found out that his name is Z and I met him today."
" You didn't just go up to him? right? that's not like you." her best friend laughed.
"No, this girl named M introduced me to him." she responded.
"So what's he like? her best friend asked.
"He's a really nice guy and very charming too. she answered dreamily.
"The only problem is Z and M are friend-with-benefits." she snapped. Her best friend stood up in the pool to make eyes contact with her.
"You should stay away from this guy, he sounds like a player." her best friend said concerned. "tell me you'll try to stay away from him."
" I don't want to though, maybe if I talk to him about it and try to convince him that's it's not a good thing for him or M?" She explained.
" I don't think he'll change, people like that often don't." her best friend stuttered. she gave her a sad shrug because there was really nothing she could say to make either of them more comfortable about the situation she was getting into. What she felt with Z was something she'd never really felt before and she was curious about that feeling. It felt good to be around him and that was something that she felt she needed after everything that she's been through lately. If she couldn't sway Z then she would get out because she wanted only him, just Z and herself.
