"I can't do it" Alaina groaned. I rolled my eyes; we were currently sitting in a diner that wasn't far from my house, eating brunch. "Come on don't be such a wuss; you need to gain confidence and what better way to do that, than to talk to a random guy" I said and popped a chip in my mouth.
"Alex, I'm not confident I can barely hold a conversation with a teacher let alone a stranger" she wined.
"Come on Alaina, it's easy just go up to him and say 'Hi' I suggested. Alaina took a sip of her water with a worried expression fixed on her face. "I don't think I'm ready for this" she whispered.
I sighed "Of course you are, you just need a little push. You see that boy sitting alone over there". Alaina turned around to see who I was pointing at. A boy, round about our age, was sat alone drinking a milkshake. He had black hair and wore a pair of glasses. He wasn't bulky, yet he wasn't stick thin, just somewhere in the middle. Alaina turned back around to face me and said "No".
"Come on, the poor guy is all alone. I'm sure he would love it if someone came up and talked to him" I said. Alaina sighed and took a quick glance at the guy. "What do I even say?" Alaina asked.
"Just say hi and introduce yourself" I stated like it was the obvious thing in the world. Alaina bit her lip out of nerves. "What else?" she said softly. "Um that you saw he was sitting alone, and you thought he might have wanted some company" I suggested. Alaina sat frozen in her chair.
"Come on Alaina, how do you expect to stand up for yourself when you can barely talk to anybody except me" I pushed. Alaina sighed and nodded. She slowly stood up from her chair and carefully walked towards the boy. I watched his reaction when Alaina went up to him. He seemed shocked at first, but his features softened and then he seemed joyful.
I could see that Alaina was still tense but after a few minutes she began to relax, and it seemed they were having a happy conversation as they were both laughing every so often.
I watched them converse with a big smile on my face. Suddenly my phone vibrated, indicating that I had a text. I got my phone out of my back pocket and saw that it was from Blake.
Hey bambino, I've planned for us to go to a restaurant at 8:30 tonight, I'll pick you up at 8. See you then gorgeous xx
I read the text and a smile crept to my face. Aw he was so sweet. I quickly replied saying,
Can't wait xx
I put my phone back in my pocket and saw that the boy was giving Alaina, what seems to be his phone number. Alaina had the biggest smile on her face. I don't think I've ever seen her genuinely smile. She was coming back to our table still smiling.
"So, how'd it go?" I asked. Alaina sighed "It went well, he's so nice and funny. I'm glad you pushed me to go talk to him". I smiled and rubbed her back and said "aw your welcome sweetie". Her smile grew bigger. "We've arranged to meet sometime next week" She said with excitement. "That's great" I said. Alaina nodded in agreement.
"Oh, I almost forgot, tonight I'm going out, so you might be in the house alone as I think my dad is staying at his 'office' till late" I said. Alaina seemed a little shock by my news. "O-oh where are you going?" she asked. I looked down at the table and took a deep breath. "I actually have a date, with Blake" I said. Alaina gasped. "You mean the guy from last night?". I nodded.
"Wow, um that's great I could tell that he really likes you" Alaina said cheerfully. I put my head to the side saying "Really?". Alaina smiled while nodding vigorously. "Yeah, he wouldn't stop staring at you all night. Part of the reason why I went to bed was because I could see he wanted to be alone with you." My mouth hung open. "Really?" I said again. "Yep" Alaina said while popping the 'p'.
