Beep-boop-beep-beep-boop!
BB-8 was the first one of us 'up' the next morning, beeping at me and Nyssa to get out of bed.
The problem was, I really didn't want to.
Nyssa was basically in the same position as she'd gone to sleep in the night before: her head resting on my chest, her right hand holding my wrist. The only difference now was Nyssa's left hand over my heart, her palm pressed to my skin because my shirt had a low slit and was baggy.
I think she didn't do it on purpose, but it was still a sweet gesture that made me smile.
Beep-bop! BB-8 beeped, looking at me expectantly.
"Both of us?" I asked to confirm before waking Nyssa up.
BB-8 responded with a beep to say yes.
"Fine." I sighed, rolling over so I was partially on my side facing Nyssa. "Hey, Phoenix? We've gotta get up."
"No." She replied quickly at a mumble, the tiniest of grins present on her face as she moved her head off my chest.
"C'mon, it's General Organa, she's summoned us."
"What?" Nyssa's eyes popped open, immediately meeting mine as our faces were quite close. She saw where her hand was on my body and pulled it off quickly, sitting up. "What for?"
"It's probably to do with the map," I suggested, knowing I was probably correct.
"We need to go now, then," Nyssa concluded, vaulting over me onto the floor. She fished out some snug, black and grey pants and a white shirt. "Go change, I'll meet you there, sound good?"
"For sure." I agreed, getting out of bed and leaving her room for mine.
Nyssa's POV
Part of me was excited about General Leia summoning us, in that it was likely that we would find out who was going to get the map. At the same time, I dreaded it, mostly because of what had happened last night: my nightmare.
Kylo Ren had Poe in restraints, using the Force to get information out of him, making him bellow in agony.
It wasn't the first time I'd seen things before they happened, though I wasn't entirely sure what I saw was going to be real. If it was going to become real, I was going to do everything in my power to make sure that wouldn't happen.
When I arrived at the main headquarters, the General wasn't ready yet, and Poe had yet to show up, so I waited in a secluded corridor near where we were to meet.
I leaned up against the cold brick wall and slid down to the floor to wait, sighing deeply.
Honestly, I had one of the best nights of sleep ever the night before, save for the nightmare.
I truly couldn't imagine a better way to wake up from such a horrific dream about your best friend getting tortured, than having the best friend be there to tell you first hand, that they were okay.
Poe knew me so well too, his idea about listening to his heart was so perfect and worked exactly how I needed it to.
I was so lucky to have him as my best friend.
"Hey there, stranger."
As if he knew, I heard his voice echo in the hallway, Poe waltzed in.
I think Poe did know: he knew the effect he had on me.
He knew how much I loved him as a friend, for it'd been that way since we met.
Poe stepped over so he was in front of me, and extended his hand to help me up. Even though I didn't need it, I took Poe's hand and he pulled me to my feet.
Without warning or saying anything, I wrapped my arms around him tightly in a firm embrace.
Poe tensed up as though he was surprised, but returned the hug, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked, brushing his thumb across my shoulder blade.
"Yeah," I replied, letting my eyelids fall shut. "I just wanted to thank you."
"Hm?"
"For being there," I huffed, the weight of what happened the night before hitting me full force. It was a good thing I was holding onto Poe, as it did. "For being there when I really needed you. I still need you."
"I know." Poe soothed, nodding his head ever-so-slightly. "I'm here for you."
I tilted back a little, my arms still wrapped around his neck, looking into his glinting brown eyes, studying the features of his face up close. I was pretty sure Poe had recently shaved his face, yet there was already dark stubble growing back, slightly rough to the touch.
"I--"
"N--"
We both tried to speak at the exact same time, causing Poe to chuckle breathily. I felt a nervous energy in the Force that made me smile, Poe twirling a strand of my hair I had worn loose down my back with his finger, still holding me.
"You first." Poe prompted gently, neither of us moving away from our close proximity, though this was new territory for us.
"It's alright." I blushed, not knowing how what I was going to say might be taken by Poe, so I opted against speaking. My hand found its way up Poe's neck and into his dark, wavy hair, our eyes still fixed on each other.
My eyes drifted down to his lips, my heart lurching at my sudden thought of those lips against mine.
My heart began to pound, as Poe's eyes flicked from my eyes, a little lower, blinking slowly. My hand in his hair instinctively tightened, as I felt Poe lean in a fraction.
Good God— I thought, slightly panicked, but not in a bad way. Was this really happening?
My breath hitched as Poe continued to lean, in slow motion, the anticipation killing me.
"Lieutenant Tanager," C-3P0's artificial voice sounded from the end of the hallway, the noise echoing against the stone.
My head snapped toward the golden droid, dropping my hand from Poe's hair suddenly, stepping back.
"What?" I drawled, glaring.
"Prince-- General Organa is ready for you," C-3P0 informed me, shuffling stiffly toward us.
"Just me?" I asked, glancing back at Poe, whose hand mine was encased in.
"I believe so, yes," 3P0 responded.
"It's fine, go." Poe smiled, releasing his grip on my hand.
"Okay," I sighed, not knowing how to feel about what C-3P0 just interrupted, as I followed him to where I was meeting Leia.
I wasn't even sure what it was that the droid interrupted.
All I knew was I wished he hadn't.
A/N: MUHAHAHA I'm back!
Anyway, please leave a comment or a vote or both to let me know if you liked this chapter or not! We're making progress with Danager! (Nyssa Tanager + Poe Dameron = Danager) unless someone can think of a better ship name. Perhaps that'll be my challenge to you all.
Cheers,
