~ The Great Hall ~
Lillian had heard of this spell. According to Fred, you could see into any ones heads; any subdivision of their brain. Any memories, too. Lillian wanted to try this. These sort of spells fascinated Lillian.
"Say, Hermione?”
Hermione looked across the dinner table at Lillian, and glared, hissing, “Ooh! So now you want to talk to me, do you? Huh, that makes a change!”
"I'm sorry, Hermione. I've just been busy -”
“We all know you've been! All you ever do is sit down in the dungeons, or down by The Black Lake!”
“Give over you! Leave her alone!” Fred picked up a cake from the hovering cake-tier and tossed at Hermione's head. Hermione squealed, and started wiping the pieces of sponge off from her face and out of her hair. Everyone laughed. Infuriated, and bright red, Hermione bounced up from the table and marched out of the hall.
~ The Dungeons ~
After desert, Lillian did as always and reported to Snape's office. But, as she soon discovered, she happened to come at a bad time.
“You're a foolish boy, Malfoy! Did that father of yours put you up to this?”
“It ain’t got nothing to do with you, Snape! Perhaps I should enlighten father, again, of your surreptitious manoeuvres, huh? I'm sure he and the others would love to know of what you've been doing behind their backs!”
“Why – you – little!”
Severus and Malfoy both glared at the door, where Lillian stood idly. Slowly Severus let go of Malfoy's collar, and after looking at Lillian sombrely, he thrust Malfoy away. Draco stumbled forward and into Lillian.
“Get back to your chamber. I'll deal with you later,” gritted Snape.
“Pfft!” Malfoy sneered at Lillian when he past her, then slammed the door shut.
“What do you want, Lillian?” Snape stood for a moment staring at her. For the first time in weeks, her face appeared to be lost again.
“I... uh... Just wanted to see you before I went to bed... And,” she looked around nervously, then asked, “Wanted to know if you could help me with something?”
“I don't have time!” he grunted. “I have things to do, Lillian. We've been over this; in the school region I am your professor and in this school I must work. Even when I'm not working, I'm working...” he sighed now, then limped to his chair, where he sat down and collected his yellow parchments. As he looked down upon his students work, he became silent. And so did the
room. He forgot Lillian was even there. He looked up; she had changed, a lot. Her manner had simmered a lot; she was so quiet now. Too quiet, pointed out Severus.
“We're going away for the weekend. I've sorted it all out, be sure to pack.”
Lillian's face – though trying to hide it – suddenly became bright.
~ The Staffroom ~
That night, when Lillian began to walk back to her dormitory, she caught sight of Remus walking out of the main entrance. She scurried after him, but his scuttling was too fast. All the other teachers were hurrying too towards the Staffroom.
As Lillian slowly watched the teachers ascend together from all different directions – the hospital wing, the library, the dormitories, the dungeons – she braced herself up against the wall. The door was half open. Like a flock of black cloaked birds, they rushed into the panelled room and began to nervously pace about the place. Just to be safe, Lillian cast an disillusionment charm upon herself, then listened to what the teachers had to say.
'He's been sighted!” cried Minerva. “Not even two mile from here!”
“That's not quite what I heard! Apparently, he's in Dufftown!”
“Quiet down, Madame Pomfrey! It doesn't matter of where he's been sighted, it's more of how long it's going to take him to reach here? How long before he reaches Hogwarts – reaches the students!”
By now, Lillian could hear Snape speak amongst the panic. “Headmaster, I -”
“Enough! It has been settled. Hogwarts must be made safe for the students, once again. Professor Filch, will you please ensure that Hagrid is on his way here. It is important that we discuss this with him too. Now, Professor...”
Lillian pulled away from the wall and tiptoed down the corridor. She was mingled with emergent fury and alarm. Sirius Black has been sighted?
