Chapter 5
~ Severus's House ~
Everything was quiet, a little too quiet. Snape was sitting on his armchair, like always, staring out into space, waiting for something. The room was dim and dark. In fact, nothing was perceptible, not until a load of green flames exploded out from Snape's fireplace, and within a second, Dumbledore was standing in front of Snape, staring down at him through his half-moon spectacles.
"Severus, why so urgent?" Dumbledore's voice was gentle, yet a sentiment of concern was audible.
"I-I need to consult something with you. I'm sure you're aware as to what task I've taken upon myself. I do not know why, after all, I'm already bound to look after another child as it is, never mind this one, but I just need to say that the girl needs to go to school. Her mother-"
"Was indeed a witch, a witch in hiding," added in Dumbledore, his voice rather hoarse and cough-like.
Concern was no longer in his voice...
In a glide, Dumbledore was sitting on a chair next to Severus. Dumbledore, noting to himself that Severus preferred the dark a little too much, flicked his wand and the lights turned on.
Severus looked horrible, like he hadn't slept in years. Dumbledore shook his head at him. He never favoured or approved of Severus when he was in this kind of state.
"But she was bound to her human life too much and was forced to disregard her magical needs," stated Dumbledore.
"Yes, well, why didn't the child get sent for like your protocol?"
"We did fetch for her, but her mother put up a dangerous fight. She attacked Phoenix, who might I just say, will never forgive her for pulling at his feather's..." Dumbledore cracked a small smile, ironing out his wrinkles. He had so many wrinkles did he, so many laugh lines.
"Still, the girl has been deprived of her rightful education." sighed Snape. He knew he shouldn't care, but he did. And Dumbledore already knew that.
"I know where you're going with this; the answer is yes, of course. Bear in mind though that she'll not be an entire student at Hogwarts, not unless she works ten times as fast as the others. She's two years behind, Severus."
"I have adopted her, she is my responsibility, and therefore I, personally, will make sure she catches up. Trust me."
"I do trust you... but you know Severus," Dumbledore slowly rose up from the chair and beckoned towards the fireplace, preparing some Floo powder. "You've done an amazing thing once again," Snape snarled at his bold statement, "I have taught you well. Or... you have taught yourself well."
And with that, Dumbledore put some powder into the fireplace, stepped into it and before he disappeared along with the green flames, he instructed, Hogwarts.
