My schedule changed the day after. I got to spend the whole Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with the girl I'm proud to call my girlfriend now. And of course all of the evenings, just like before. I helped her get used to the secondary department that week and now it was finally time for Demi to move to her new room. Demi and I walked with two boxes, full of her stuff, towards the new corridor. It was way less frightening than the corridor from the primary department. Demi stared her eyeballs out around her. The lights weren't dimmed here and the wallpapers were soft pink.

"Room 5, here." I said while opening up the room for her. She was officially allowed to keep the door open and she could walk away from her room whenever she wanted. Demi brightened up for the freedom she felt. I placed the box on the ground and Demi followed. Her new room was gorgeous. The walls contained a soft pink color as well and the place was just nicely finished, compared to her old basement of a hut. She finally owned more furniture, like a big mirror and some closets. Closets, clothes. She actually was able to wear her own clothes now. But she would need to buy them first, outside.

"Oh my god.." I said while realizing it all.

"What?"

"You're allowed to go outside, Demi." I said while looking shocked at her. Demi looked at the trees through her window. I could see in her face that only now he realized it as well. She looked back at me, as she didn't know what to say. Her eyes told me she wanted to go outside as fast as possible. She was finally allowed to, after fourteen slow years.

"You want to go to the park?" I said. She nodded swiftly as her shocked expression was stuck on her face. I smiled and grabbed her hand. We hopped out of the corridor, into the head-corridor.

"Who-ho-ho, where are you two going." Mister Sanders stopped us. Shit, what if he doesn't let us go? Demi stepped backward. Why was she so scared of the man?

"O-outside. To the park." I answered, hoping he'd accept that. His strict face suddenly turned into a smile.

"You two are like running children! Have fun." He said. His eyes pointed at Demi, as he slowly grabbed her shoulder. Demi stood stiffened while she didn't know what to say or to do.

"I'm glad you're starting to feel better." He said. He was such a nice man. Demi smiled sweetly and gave him a nod to say 'thank you'. We walked towards the front door that stood wide open. It was beautiful outside. The grass looked greener than ever and the sun was shining everywhere. We both stepped into the sunlight. Demi looked around. She was actually outside. She was free, but then I noticed that she still stood there attached to my arm.

"Walk alone... You're free." I said. Demi didn't keep her eyes off the view, mesmerized by it. She softly pulled her arms away from me. She stepped forward as she looked down at her sneakers. She walked in the sunlight while she increased speed. She walked faster and faster. I walked after her. She hopped, she jogged, she ran, she sprinted. I saw her run as fast as possible. I started running after her, this was amazing. She was like a leopard that was finally freed from her cage. She ran as fast as a deer in the woods, like a lioness in the savannah. She ran. It gave me a smile on my face.

"Demi!" I yelled when I noticed I couldn't keep up. She ran faster than I did. I saw how her arms moved in contrast with her legs. The small clouds of dust she left behind after her feet hit the gravel road. The adrenaline pumping through her veins. My smile disappeared when my hip started to receive a severe stitch.
