Mondays suck. I get up out of bed and slip on some sweatpants and a t-shirt and pull a caramel, thin cardigan on. I brush my teeth and brush my hair. I pull my hair into a high ponytail and grab my backpack off my desk swivel chair. I race down the stairs, hearing the school bus's horn blare. I run down my driveway and climb into the bus and take a seat.
I trudge into the school miserably, trying not to want to collapse to the floor and sleep. I spot Mariah and the others chatting by Mariah and I's lockers.
I reach them and my locker and spin in the combination. After grabbing my books and shutting my locker, I turn to the cheery group.
"Hey!," they all happily greet me.
"Hey," I say with a forced smile.
"Tired already?," Shaylee jokes to me.
I nod my head vigorously. "Of course."
She laughs and the others join in.
"I hope that we don't have anything big to do today, because my mind isn't going to focus at all," Sarah says, with a yawn.
We all nod our heads in agreement.
"Well I heard somebody had fun with a boy on Friday," Kylie says with a teasing smile, while looking at me.
Shaylee, Sarah, and Mariah all turn to look at me with knowing smiles. "Oh right, I believe that I have heard that too," Sarah says.
"If I remember correctly doesn't that boy go along the name, Julian?," Shaylee says and grins from ear to ear.
I blush and look to the floor, "Maybe." They know that I haven't been on a date since before I broke up with Shane and I haven't been too interested in dating until now.
"It's ok guys, I know all the juicy details," Mariah says teasingly. I whip my head up and give her a glare.
"How was it, Leilah?," Kylie asks.
A smile spreads quickly and I say, "Really fun."
They all smile happily at me and look to each other.
Then to make me even more embarrassed, they all say, "Aww!," in union.
"Oh, hush," I say and giggle.
The tardy bell rings, signaling the beginning of school. We all give our goodbyes and go to our separate classes.
______
When the lunch bell rings, I meet Mariah and the others of our group at the cafeteria doors, like we always do before waiting in line. We all began to talk about the most random of things and keep busy until we get our lunch plates and sit down at our usual table. In the middle, near the "populars" and the "non-populars." We get the table closest to the "populars," because we are considered "the middle." Which I find ridiculous, but have found that basically true. With our group we are friends with practically everybody. Except for the "main populars", because they think that they need to not like us or whatever, which is why we are "the middle."
I can get along with anybody and everybody, because I don't care about society's expectations. My friends are the exact same, the one thing that we all share. In fact, in our group each one of us is completely different, which is what I like about it the most. We can all balance each other out and we aren't really much of a "group," because we are friends with a lot of people, different for each of us, but still the same. I find it amazing how when one of us has a new friend outside of our "group", we all can easily become friends with them too, that's how we all are able to have so many friends.
