Alex's P.O.V
*************
I couldn't hear anything.
I couldn't feel anything.
I couldn't see anything,
Anything except red.
"Alex?" her small voice whimpered. She looked so small, so fragile, so scared.
I looked over at Cole my eyes burning into his, I was surprised at his height. He was about an inch or two shorter than I was but he looked more built.
"You touch her one more fucking time.." I growled clenching my fists at my sides tightly.
"What? What are you going to do Archer?" he smirked and raised an eyebrow crossing his arms.
I was taken back when he knew my last name but then again I knew his name and the ones of his members.
I guess I wasnt the only one who did their research.
"You know exactly what I could do, but that's not exactly going to be a good thing for you is it." I narrowed my eyes slightly and took a step forward.
I knew he wouldn't act out now, not with all the people here. He needs to keep himself and his gang out of the public eye, a fight here would only get everyone's attention on him making it harder for him to get away with his attacks.
He stayed quiet and dropped his arms at his sides.
I smirked and nodded walking up to him. He might've been bigger in build, but I had him beat in size. I was taller, my shoulders were broader, my fists were bigger.
I flicked my eyes to hers and held my arm out towards her.
She looked at my hand and hesitantly wrapped her arms around my own, slipping away carefully from Cole.
I slipped her behind me and stepped back wrapping my arm around her.
"It's alright Alex. You can play superhero for as long as you want with her. I have plenty of time and plenty of others to use against you." he chuckled and walked past me, stopping and looking over at her from behind me. He winked quickly at her and I felt her grip on my arm tighten just as he did so.
I watched him leave through the door and saw him slowly disappear down the hallway.
The air on the bathroom cleared out and I felt my body relax, my breathing slowing down.
I felt the tightness on my arm loosen and I opened my eyes wider realizing what had happened.
I turned around on my heels and looked her over for any cuts or injuries but quickly brought my eyes back up to hers.
"Are you alright?" I raised an eyebrow attempting to sound relaxed.
Her eyes were glued to the floor as she nodded slightly and wrapped her arms around herself.
I sighed and looked around running my fingers through my hair.
I could leave, I could leave right now. I got her out of the trouble at the moment, I could leave and keep her out of it. Then again, who says he won't come back once I leave? who says some other drunk won't try taking advantage of her too.
If I took her out with me I was risking Cole and his gang seeing her with me. They could think she was something important to me and they'd go after her without a doubt, of course I did already bust in and threaten Cole away from her.
Even if I didnt want her to be involved, I was afraid she already was.
Her shirt was torn, her hair was a mess, her cheeks were stained with tears. She wasnt making the situation any easier.
I bit the inside of my cheek and cursed myself in my head. I slipped off my jacket and lied it over her shoulders.
She furrowed her eyebrows and looked up at me shaking her head lightly. "What are you doing?" she questioned wrapping my jacket around her small frame hesitantly.
"Come on, I'm taking you home." I took a deep breath and walked past her standing in the door way.
She looked over at me and little by little walked after me.
I looked around and cupped my hand over the small of her back, leading her lightly through the crowds of people.
I could see her looking around and I knew what she was doing.
I was doing the same.
I had my eyes going in all directions looking for where Cole and his group was.
Were they still here? Were they watching us? Were they going to make a move?
All these questions flowed through my mind until we were outside of the building.
She looked around feeling a little uncomfortable. I couldn't blame her, all that was covering her was my jacket.
I slipped the car keys from my pocket and lead her to the car before opening her door for her.
"Thank you." she mumbled lightly before sliding into the seat carefully.
I bit the inside of my cheek and walk around the car to the drivers side, keeping my eyes open.
After sliding into my car I turned it on and pulled out of the lot.
She was quiet, looking out the window and lost in thought.
The more I looked at her the more sorry I felt for her. She truly had that innocence to her that made you want to protect her, but she had a spark that I could just feel from her.
She turned her head slightly and looked over at me out of the corner of her eye.
I quickly sat up in my seat and turned my attention back to the road.
"Um.." she started off quietly. I looked over at her out of the corner of my eye and saw her twiddling her thumbs nervously.
She sighed and bit her lip looking over at me.
"I just wanted to say thank you for what happened back there, and for the other day.." she looked down at her lap, the end of her sentence drifting a bit.
I sighed tapping my thumbs on the steering wheel. "It was nothing." I answered back numbly and let the car drift back into a silence.
I couldn't let her get comfortable with me, if I did then she would try keeping in touch with me.
I wanted her to, dear god I wanted her to, but what happened tonight was nothing compared to what could happen if she did get involved with me.
After a few more minutes of driving in an uncomfortable silence I pulled up in front of her house.
She rubbed her arm softly and opened the door before stepping out. She slid my jacket off and set it in the seat beside me, wrapping her arms around herself.
"I'm Britney by the way." she bit her lip and looked around shivering slightly.
I nodded slightly and looked over at her. "You should probably get inside before someone sees you." I bit the inside of my cheek and watched the hurt in her eyes.
"Yeah, of course." she stood up straight and held the top of the door on her hand.
"Thank you again Alex." She curled one side of her lips into a small smile and shut the door lightly.
I watched her make her way up her driveway and shuffle around with her keys until she finally managed to get the door opened.
Once she stepped inside and I assumed her door was locked I drove off. I felt horrible for being so cold to her, after keeping her from getting into trouble with Cole I went in a complete 180. I could imagine how confused she was but it was best to keep her that way.
Seeing her tonight was hard, I didnt know why it hurt me so much to see her hurt, to see her in fear, I don't know what I would do if I had to see her in a worse condition.
I didnt know and I didnt want to know.
