Sky POV
It has been an hour since we arrived to the park with the forest, I like to call it my forest because I feel as if I have come home when I am here, and I also absolutely love the animals here. Nick and I haven't really communicated that much since we have got here, but I don't really mind as much, because I am not that big of a social person. I may seem like it, but the truth is that I am not.
We were still walking me in front of Nick when he called me, "Sky."
I stopped and turned around to face him, "Yes, Nick." I said to him and when I saw his face I saw anxiousness, confusion, and the last emotion confused me... Anger? But why? "What's wrong Nick?" I decided to question him.
He ran a hand over his face in frustration and looked up at me with fire blazing in his eyes, "I can't do this anymore Sky, I just can't." He said, and I looked at him confused.
"Nick, that's fine we can just come back later, and work on this later." I tell him.
"No, Sky that is not what I am talking about." He tells me running a hand over his face in clear frustration again.
"Then Nick, tell me what are you talking about. Tell me what is bothering you." I ask him inching a bit closer to him wanting to comfort him.
"Sky, I am freaking talking about us! I can't do this stupid project with you if you can't even try to be my friend. I have been trying to reach out to you the whole time, but all you do is push me away. I mean what do I freaking need to do in order to become your friend!" He yells.
"Nick, what are you talking about? You are my friend." I tell him as calmly as I can.
"No, Sky, we are not friends, we don't even try to act like we are friends! You push me away all the time! Tell me do friends always go into awkward silences and not have anything to talk about? Don't friends always have something to talk about? Don't they always try to keep the conversation going somehow?" he yells again.
"Well Nick, sorry to ring your bells, but clearly I am not like that!" I yell back.
"No, Sky, you are not, but you don't have a problem talking to Jake and Jace."
"Nick, Jake and I are actually very good friends, and as for Jace, he always comes and finds a way to bug me, and we have always talked since I first came here. Please Nick, I don't want to talk about this anymore. If you want me to start talking to you more, I will, just please... stop."
"No, Sky I want to know why you can't talk to me."
"Nick, please, I am begging you I don't want to talk about this, please don't force me. I promise I will try to talk to you more, but please I beg you." I beg him, because what he is asking of me leads to one of the darkest parts of me, and I don't want to relive the memories of why I am so closed off.
"No, Sky, I don't want a pitied friendship, I want you, the real you. I want to know why you cannot open up to me and let me in. I want to know and I want you to tell me. Please trust me Sky... Trust me enough to at least let me in." he pleads me, his tone completely sincere and honest, and I do trust him, it's not that I don't, it's just that I am scared of history repeating itself, because in my case, history has repeated itself more than once, and I don't want that to happen anymore.
I look at him in frustration, he does deserve an explanation, he has been trying really hard, and I have been pushing him away, I can't just keep pushing people away, he deserves a chance and so do I, to try opening up again, but the only problem is I don't know what I will do if history does repeat itself. So, the real question is will I be able to give him a chance?
I will, I owe this to him and to myself and I will let him in.
I look up at him with determination clear in my eyes, "Fine! Follow me!" I say in the most stubborn way possible.
When I said I know this forest like the back of my hand, I wasn't lying. I have been here enough amount of times to know every tree that is here.
There is this secret place in this forest that no one has discovered, not that I know of that is. This place that I am talking about, it is a place in the forest that no one really goes to, because there are a lot more wild animals running around in that area. But, I had no fear because all the animals are my friends. I also befriended a wolf, he is pretty small compared to other wolves present here, but I don't mind, I love him more than the others, I named him Wolfy. He always knows when I am here in the forest and always comes to meet me when I am alone or with Jake. He also always knows whenever I am headed to my spot, and always comes with me and keeps me company while I am there.
As we walk deeper into the forest, it starts to get thicker, but I still make my way through and soon the path starts becoming steeper, and I know Wolfy will be coming along any time now. I make my way up and the crunching of leaves is the only thing that lets me know that Nick is still following. Soon I hear the rustling of leaves and Wolfy appears. Wolfy is a pure midnight black colored wolf, with the brightest yellow eyes you can find. I feel so much innocence around him, and I feel as if he is just a pup, even though he looks older, but I know he is little, and soon will grow into something much stronger.
I hear Nick make a sound that sounds like a gasp, "Sky, the wolf."
Wolfy comes up to me and rubs himself against my leg, and looks up at Nick, with his big yellow eyes, curiously.
"Nick, this is Wolfy, he is my friend." I tell him and look down at Wolfy, "Wolfy this is Nick, and he is coming with us to the spot today." I tell him and pat his head, and Wolfy gives me a wolfish grin and gives Nick a wary look, but follows me nonetheless, and he soon ends up leading the way.
Once we near the top, the trees start to spread apart again, and the cliff comes into view. Wolfy runs and sits near the edge of the cliff, and looks at me expectantly to come and sit next to him. And I do exactly that. I sit next to him and let my legs dangle on the edge. And Wolfy lays his head on my lap like it is a way to ensure my safety and not let me fall off the cliff and I admire him for that, I put my hands through his fur and rub his neck softly.
The cliff looks over the opposite side of the town, and it gives a beautiful view of the sunset, but it isn't that high, so if I do even fall, I won't be that injured. But, I always love to come here to think whenever I am confused, and the only other person who knows about this place is Jake, my parents knew I had a place where I liked to go and think but they didn't know where it was. And, Jake and Wolfy have also met before and they both seem to get along pretty well and Wolfy also absolutely loves Jake and I love that because both of them mean a lot to me.
Nick comes and sits down next to me, and Wolfy looks up at him again warily but doesn't do anything, he just puts his head back down cautiously and gives Nick a look as if to give him a silent warning not to start any funny business, and by the looks of Nick, he does seem a bit intimidated and that makes me smile. Sometimes I swear this dog acts like he's human, but I still love him.
I look over the cliff and stare off, taking a moment of silence and a moment to absorb the beauty of the sun starting to set before starting my story and before finally letting someone in after a very long time. I deserved to trust again and he deserved my trust.
