The second part of the Baker takes five months after Ben and Cassie's wedding.
Things start off a little rocky for the newlyweds and, even though their careers are going nowhere but up, there's that one piece of the puzzle that's still missing. Will...
"No. No, that's not what I want to hear," Cassie whined into the phone. Ben glanced over at her from the drivers seat, then looked back to the road. "Look, I can't do that because I'm going to be gone for a while. I'll be back next month, but that's the best I can do."
She wrote something down on the note pad that was in her lap. "I'll be back on the twentieth, but I'll be gone again on the third," she said. "My husband and I are going to Oxfordshire while he does his filming and our baby is due in just two and a half months here, so I'm not going to have a lot of free time."
Ben smirked and reached his hand over to run it down her stomach. She didn't even notice. "The sales will be fine, I promise," she said. "At the bakery, they killed and now that I have a lot more recipes, and original ones at that, they'll be insane! I'm not worried about any of that right now, though."
Again, Ben smiled. She's going to say the baby is what's most important, he happily thought. "The test run is what's important to me right now." His smile dropped. "Look, I'm exhausted, so I'm going to go. This baby keeps kicking up storm at three a.m. and I need my beauty sleep."
No she doesn't, Ben thought. She's fucking gorgeous as it is. "I'll talk to you tomorrow, Charlie. Bye." She hung up and let out a large sigh. She then started writing stuff down on the note pad. "Good news?" Ben asked.
She huffed and told him, "Well, if you consider my own lawyer giving me doubts, then no. But everything will be fine. We're having a meeting on Christmas Eve of all days." Ben gave her a double take. "Christmas Eve?" He asked. "That's bloody idiotic."
"I know," she told him, "but it's the only day he could do it." She wrote down a few more things, then put her stuff away. Once she got everything out of her way, she started shifting in her seat to get comfortable.
Ben looked over and asked, "You alright? Need another bathroom break?" She shook her head and sighed, "No. I just...feel weird. I can't get comfortable." He hummed in thought, then said, "You might just need to stretch out a bit."
She shook her head, then looked over to him. "I need it," she said. He sighed and rolled his eyes. "You don't need it. I should just open the trunk and hope that damn thing flies out." She gave him a stern look and said more seriously, "I. Need. It."
Ten minutes later, Cassie was happily sleeping against her body pillow that she propped up against the door. Ben was shaking his head and looked over to it. The pillow case she got for it was insane. There's a reason she didn't tell him because the case was a picture of him as Sherlock.
As soon as she showed him, he wanted nothing more than to toss it off a cliff.
They continued their journey to Oxfordshire and got to their new, rented house in just a few more hours. Ben gently shook Cassie awake, but she started muttering something about needing coffee. "Baby, you can't have coffee," Ben gently giggled. With her eyes still closed, she put her hand on her stomach and muttered, "Shit."
He managed to get her fully awake and out of the car in a few minutes. She yawned as she looked up to the house and said, "Wow. This is amazing! I hope you don't expect me to clean all this."
