Chapter 1

Crystal-Violet
  *Beep, Beep, Beep...*
"I swear to God, if that thing goes off again..." I said in my head. Silence. I smiled. But 10 seconds later
  *Beep, Beep, Beep...*
"Ugh, okay!" I said  out loud now. I rolled over on my opposite side, swung my legs over the edge of my bed, and silenced my alarm. Time check: 9:30 a.m. Ugh ew. I should've just slept in but I was tired of getting up late and people complaining about it, so I've decided to get up a little earlier than usual.
I went to my bathroom and brushed my teeth and did what everyone else does during their morning routine. I didn't have any plans for the day so I just stayed in my long pj pants and sort sleeved shirt, and I redid my messy bun.

I figured that I needed some tea to get me started for the morning (yes, I prefer tea over coffee, although I like coffee also) so I started to heat up some water in a small pot on the stove. While the water was boiling, I went outside to check the mailbox.
I've been trying to get a well-paying job for a couple weeks now. I've decided not to attend college. I don't know why really. But I've already made my choice. I walked outside and smelled the fresh Florida morning air. As I walked over to the mailbox, my neighbor and friend Dustin was outside sitting on one of his porch chairs and just looking around.

He wore gray sweatpants with a tight black shirt that showed off his muscles.  His dark brunette hair was a nice contrast with his beautiful blue eyes. He was the same age as me, 18. He was cute, but I didn't like him like that.
"Hey Dustin!" I greeted him.
"Hey Crystal. How have you been?" He replied. His morning voice obviously showing that he just woke up not too long ago. "Eh, good I guess. You?" I said.
"Same. Still trying to find a job?"
"Yeah, I was just about to check my mailbox to see if anyone replied to my applications. I really wanna get that one job as a secretary at Stmpd Rcrds, though."
"Oh that sounds like one you would enjoy!"
"Duh, that's why I just said that I really want to get that one, stupid!"
He scoffed and rolled his eyes playfully, and smiled. I gave him one back. "It pays well too." I said. "I wouldn't have to worry about not paying the rent on time."
"Yeah, true. It's hard to make a living."
"Yep, especially when you've just moved out of your parents house and have no one to count on."
"Hey, I'm here for you if you ever need me, okay?" I smiled and nodded at him. I'm so glad to have a friend like him in my life. "Alright well, I have somewhere to be so I'll catch you later okay?" He said. I just smiled and nodded. He got up from the chair he was sitting in and before he turned to go back inside his house, he gave me a wink. I giggled and waved him a goodbye.

As I'm making my way toward my mailbox, I just remembered the boiling water on the stove that I left. I cursed under my breath and ran toward the mailbox, quickly taking the contents out of it and rushing back into the house. Thankfully when I got into the kitchen, it wasn't in anyway destroyed and the water was just right. I sighed in relief. I took the now steaming water off the stove and put it on the counter. I made a cup of tea and brought it over to the couch along with the mail I took out of the mailbox.

"Okay let's see what we have here. Water bill, electricity bill, Internet bill...oh, hello what's this?" I say as I came across this red envelope only with my address and the sender address on it. Huh. I turn the envelope over to where you would open it and at the tip of the flap that you open had a gold round sticker on it. It looks like one of those envelopes that people at award shows have when they announce the winner.
I opened the envelope like if I used too much force it would crumble in my hands. I took out the piece of paper that was in it and read what it said:

Dear Ms. Rogers,
