The next morning I woke up, sunshine peering through my window and the smell of pancakes wafting down from upstairs. I yawned and rolled over, scrolling through the notifications. A few texts from a drunk Joe, a few from Zoe, and one from my mom. I responded to them all before my stomach started rumbling, reacting to the delicious smell.
I checked the time; it was eleven a.m. I'm pretty sure Joe got drunk as all hell last night with Oli, and Caspar couldn't be up. So who was making pancakes? I yawned and stretched, loosening my back up. I sat up and ran my fingers through messy hair, before just tying it up into a bun that ended up splaying itself across the back of my head messily. I sighed and rubbed my eyes.
I quickly made sure that my pajamas would be presentable if we had a guest over and started on my way upstairs, making sure my phone was tucked in my pocket. I checked in Joe's room on the way up, he was snoring louder than my dad after a hard night out.
I giggled and trudged upstairs, following the sweet smell of warm batter and chocolate chips.
I heard humming.
And a familiar voice rung throughout the room.
"Hey, Marley." Caspar smiled brightly at me. He was at the stove, in just a pair of joggers and no shirt. He was flipping pancakes. I smiled back, delighted that he was up and making breakfast for everyone.
"Hi, I thought you would be sleeping?" I sat myself down at the breakfast bar and took one of the chocolate chips off the countertop and popped it into my mouth.
Caspar smirked and raised his phone, gesturing to it.
"Thanks to this handy thing called an alarm, I could get up and make sure that I saw you before you headed off to work." He flipped the large pancake that was on the pan in from of him, making a perfect golden brown pancake. I noticed a growing stack of them on a plate next to the stove and started piling a few on my plate.
I smiled at the thought of him getting up just to see me this morning as I drizzled syrup over my pancakes and took a bite.
"What are you smiling about? Are my pancakes as amazing as they usually are?" Caspar chuckled, looking back up at me with that smile that I love. The pancakes were amazing.
"No, I'm just happy that you woke up to see me." I blushed at his gaze and looked down at my half eaten breakfast.
"Of course I would. Hey, you're blushing! You're cute when you blush." He went to the breakfast bar with a plate stacked high with pancakes in hand, taking his seat beside me.
The same crimson color spread deeper over my cheeks and I felt a stab of butterflies in my stomach as his hand brushed mine under the table.
I felt his hand find my cheek and turn my face towards his, guiding my lips to his. They were soft and tasted sweet, like the syrup on my pancakes. His lips moved across mine with such care, gently but powerfully. My heart was beating fast and incessantly, like waves beating on the shoreline during a storm.
When he pulled away the waves ceased almost instantly, and it took me a moment to realize that he pulled away because Joe had walked in, gaping at the scene.
"Joe!" Caspar exclaimed, running his fingers through his messy hair, trying to right himself. His lips were pink and his face was flushed. I looked at Joe, unable to read his expression until he burst out laughing.
"Yeah! Get it, Marley!" Joe yelled, cheering and parading around the living room. I rolled my eyes and took my plate to the sink, rinsing it.
"Joe, you're an idiot!" I giggled playfully, running my fingers through my hair. "I'm going to get ready for work. Collect yourself." I muttered as Joe wiped the tears from his eyes from laughter.
I glanced back at Caspar, who sent me a small smile as I hurried downstairs to get dressed.
I quickly pulled on some black skinny jeans and a jumper, tearing a brush through my hair and carefully putting some makeup on before heading into the bathroom. I pulled my hair into a ponytail. My work was casual, I worked in the back, putting price tags on the stands of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings, so I wouldn't need to dress as nicely as some of the employees that worked in the front of the store.
I ran back upstairs, slinging my bag over my shoulder. Joe had retreated back downstairs, obviously still hungover.
Caspar met me at the top of the stairs and pulled me into another kiss, hugging me tight to him. I felt his bare chest press to mine and I ran my hands down his torso. I smiled on his lips and finally pushed him away, gently but firmly.
"Caspar! I have to go to work!" I laughed and he pressed another kiss to my lips. We had gotten really close... Was that a good thing?
"Sorry, I just couldn't help myself." He kissed me one more time before I rushed out the door, catching the Uber I had called for earlier. I touched my lips as I sat down in the car, smiling to myself.
There is definitely something here.
