Chapter 10

I wake up and don't feel Ryan next to me. I sit up and could hear the shower running.

I slip on my pjs remembering my embarrassment from last night and quickly get out before Ryan comes out. I was going to avoid him as long as I could. I order food from room service and quickly eat making sure to save some for Ryan who might be hungry. As soon as he steps into the kitchen, I walk around him making my way back to the room so I could shower. I grab my stuff making sure not to forget anything.

When I come out, Ryan is on the bed on his phone.

"Hey," he says. I nod and go to the suitcase for some shoes.

"We're going out again, you might want to change into something fancy and elegant." he says. I nod and dig through my clothes.

"We're going around 9, so you have the day to yourself." He says walking towards the door.

"Oh, and no flirting with guys," he says before disappearing out the room. I couldn't help but to smile at his comment. Good thing he wasn't there to see. I go to the living room and turn on the tv. All the programs were in Chinese! I didn't understand anything! But there was nothing else to watch so I made conversations between the people.

After hours pass I decide to go out. I had about 4 hours left for myself before I had to change into something elegant and fancy for tonight. I wonder where we were going... Was it a date?!

I get on the elevator and walk towards the lobby.

"Oh hey," Jake tells me.

"Hi," I say. He and his friends walk towards me.

"This is my friend Pete and Kate," he says. He introduces me to his friends and we all shake hands.

"We're going out to eat, want to join us?" Kate says.

"Yea, as long as I'm back before 9," I tell them.

"Why? Is it your curfew? Will you get in trouble?" Jake jokes and everyone laughs. If only they knew just how much in trouble I would be.

"No, I just have this thing I'm going to," I say.

"We'll have you back before then," Kate says smiling. I felt stupid and bad for cutting their plans short.

We walked to the parking lot and we get into a small white car. Pete and Kate were in the front and Jake and I rode in the back.

We arrive at a restaurant whose name I couldn't read. Jake gets out first and before I could unbuckle myself he already has my door open for me to get out. I get out and we walk together.

When the waiter takes us to our table, Jake pulls my chair out for me to sit. He was a real gentleman.

"So, Bay, tell us why you decided to come to China?" Pete asks me. My eyes grow huge. What was I supposed to say?! I had to think of something quick! Ryan never told me what to answer if someone asked me that.

"Well - um- my friend, Ryan, invited me on this trip, and I've never travelled, not even to a neighboring city, so I said 'why not?'" Phew! Nice save Donovan.

"Why did you guys decide to come to China?" I ask before they could interrogate me.

"Pete and Jake are here on a business trip," Kate says, "I'm here for vacation."

"Business? What type of business?" I ask.

"We're architects, and we were asked to design a building," Jake tells me.

The waiter comes over and they order for me, apparently this was their 3rd time coming to this restaurant. When the food arrived, I didn't really know what I was eating. My plate was decorated beautifully with the food, that i didn't want to eat it, I just wanted to stare at it.

When I take a bite, the food tasted so good! I didn't care what it was, I just wanted to eat it!

"Do you like it?" Jake tells me while smiling. I nod while still chewing my food.

"What is it?" I finally ask.

"Duck," Jake says.

"Duck?!" I say, I suddenly felt like throwing up. "I just ate duck?!" I say.

"But you liked it," Kate reminds me. True, but it was a duck!

"What are you guys eating?" I say suddenly not wanting to eat my own.

"Dog," jake says. My eyes go big.

"I'm joking," he says.

"I actually believed you, I heard they eat dogs in china," I say.

"I wouldn't eat a dog," jake says, "they are a man's best friend, who eats their best friend?" I couldn't help but laugh.

"I hope you don't," Pete says. We all laugh.

They were good people and fun to hang out with. Suddenly, I didn't want to leave. It was about to be 7.

"Well we should be getting you back," Pete says. We walk out the restaurant and get in the car.

When we were close to the hotel I say, "Thanks guys, I had fun. Sorry we had to leave early."

"Don't worry about it, we were just planning to go eat," Kate says. We pull up to the hotel and Jake goes out to open the door for me. I was so not used to this. Well Ryan would open the door for me but it was to push me in or pull me out. Kate and Pete go to park the car and Jake accompanies me to the elevator.

"I really had a good time with you," Jake says as we get in the elevator.

"Me too," I say and smile at him.

"I really hope, we can hang out again," he says.

"Me too," I heard myself say. Gosh, was that all I knew how to say?

"Your friends are nice and fun," I say.

"Yea, they are really something," he says. "As are you," he adds.

"I am?" I say.

"Yes, you're beautiful, funny, and down to earth," he says. I smile at his comments. Before I could say anything he closes the space between us and kisses me.
