"I believe that Chief Nile's stand, as it seems, lacks justification."
The entire court turned to search for the voice, and saw the hand raise from the top box.
Eren turned to see a young woman walking closer to the railing, and she eyed him carefully. His heart leaped as he recognized it to be (Y/N) Jaeger, dressed in the Survey Corps uniform. His sister, whom he had been searching for all this time. He turned to Mikasa, who looked like she was about to cry.
"Ah, permission to speak, Commander Zackley," she said.
"Go ahead," Zackley said. "Who are you?"
"(Y/N) Jaeger, from the Special Operations Squad of the Survey Corps."
"Jaeger, huh?" Zackley looked at (Y/N). "Any relation to Eren Jaeger, here?"
"Yes," she answered. "I am the biological older sister of Eren, and Mikasa Ackerman's adoptive older sister. However, I implore you to listen to my stand not as a biological family member, but as a soldier of the Survey Corps with a right to speak."
Out of the corner of his eye, Eren saw Levi groan quietly. "Of all the times she has to speak, it has to be now," he muttered. "I told Hanji to rein her in."
"Wait, Levi," Erwin said. "This could be helpful."
"I accept your condition," Zackley said.
"Thank you." (Y/N) straightened. "Mikasa Ackerman's past and relations to the Jaeger family has nothing to do with the fact that Eren protected her. It is the duty of soldiers to help fellow soldiers in distress, if they can. Regardless of them being related or not, it is a rule we must follow. Unless, of course, someone wishes to argue with me, a soldier on the front lines for seven years running now."
No one dared to answer. (Y/N) looked pleased. "You seem to doubt Mikasa's story because you think she'll say anything to save him. There were witnesses to both events that she mentioned, I believe."
"The first event, no," Mikasa said. "The second event, the Garrison was there."
"There you go," (Y/N) said. "Forgo the first event. Let the court decide whether to believe that or not. But the second event has plenty of witnesses. Question them if you must, but still, it is up to the court to believe it or not. However, I question everyone this: did we not swear upon entering this courtroom to say the truth and nothing but the truth? Of all the people here, Mikasa Ackerman, a soldier, is duty-bound to that promise. Deciding that she lies simply because she is related to Eren is simply looking at her as a mere girl. She is a soldier, capable of slaughtering Titans as well as narrow-minded people."
The court started mumbling amongst themselves as (Y/N) continued.
"When Eren and Mikasa were nine, it is true that they murdered three robber-kidnappers," she said. "However, it is considered justifiable self-defense. You simply do not stand there and allow your comrades or yourself to die without fighting. That is the rule in this world where something else besides the humans is on top of the food chain."
"It is a known fact," Nile said loudly. "That first-degree murder calls for severe punishment, maybe even a death sentence, had the two not been minors."
"Indeed," (Y/N) said, coldly this time. "Chief Nile, I believe you have children."
"This is no place to discuss family relations!" shouted Nile.
"You pried into Eren and Mikasa's family life, so you shouldn't talk!" (Y/N) said, raising her voice. "Chief Nile. Let's say your children had been put into the same situation, and did the exact same thing as Eren and Mikasa did. Six years later your son or daughter stands in Eren's place right now. I know for a fact that you would immediately dub it as justifiable self-defense. Anything to save your children. Yes?"
