(Y/N) yawned as she set down her cup of tea, drifting in and out of her squad's conversation. She could hear the others talking about Eren, and Eren would answer timidly, but other than that, she understood nothing.

Suddenly, a loud bang could be heard from outside, rattling the door. (Y/N) yelped mid-yawn, and toppled out of her chair. Auruo and Gunther started laughing hysterically, while Eren stared at (Y/N) in horror.

"Idiot," (Y/N) heard Levi mutter, and she aimed a kick at his leg that he dodged perfectly.

Petra had stood up and removed the wooden plank that was blocking the door, letting Hanji in.

"Good evening, gentlemen—" Hanji paused, looking at Petra and (Y/N). "—and ladies of the Levi Unit! Have you made yourselves at home in the castle?"

"You're early," Levi commented.

"How could I stay put now?" Hanji said, walking towards Eren. "Sorry for the wait, Eren. I'm charged with experimenting on the two Titans we caught alive in the city."

The two rattled on and on about Titans and whatnot, with Hanji being her usual eccentric and forward self, and Eren being his usual uncomfortable self. Soon, (Y/N) started drifting in and out of the conversation again.

It was when Eren spoke that brought her out of her sleepiness.

"But...what exactly are these experiments on the Titans?"

The effect was immediate. Levi grunted behind his cup of tea. Petra looked mildly horrified, Eld looked panicked, Gunther looked as uncomfortable as Eren as Hanji was right next to him, and Auruo put a hand over his mouth. (Y/N) had snapped out of her drowsy state and, behind Hanji's back, drew a line with her hand across her throat, an indicator for him to stop talking.

Hanji had raised her head, a crazy glint in her eyes. "Hm?"

Eren, bless him, was still completely and utterly confused.

"Um..." he repeated. "What exactly are these experiments..."

"Stop that!" Auruo hissed. "Don't ask her!"

But it was too late. "I see," Hanji said, in a voice as crazy as her expression. "You had this expression like you wanted to know."

"Wait a minute, Major," (Y/N) said. "Eren couldn't possibly—"

"Levi!" Hanji said, looking at the captain. "What are Eren's plans for tomorrow?"

Levi's eye twitched. "Cleaning the garden."

"Right, it's settled, then!" Hanji turned to (Y/N). "I'd rather not have my head chopped off, so is it alright for me to borrow Eren for tomorrow?"

(Y/N) was surprised. "But...what exactly is tomorrow's agenda?"

The same insane expression flitted across Hanji's face, and the other squad members groaned.

"I don't think we should leave Eren alone with Hanji," (Y/N) said, still shivering her from her time with Hanji. "She's a great friend and all, but Eren couldn't possibly handle her and her crazy antics."

"He'll be fine," Levi said. "They're both freaks. Birds of the same feather flock together."

"That's mean. That's my brother you're talking about. If you call him a freak, then by association, I'm a freak too."

"Exactly. I'm glad you're so smart. That's my second-in-command."

(Y/N) managed a laugh and aimed a punch at Levi. But, unlike his usual self, he let the punch connect to his shoulder.

"Ow."

"Your fault for not dodging it," (Y/N) said.

As they walked down the corridor, they stopped in front of Levi's room.

"You know I won't let anything happen to the little brat," he said. "Even if his cleaning is deplorable."

"Hey," (Y/N) protested. "It took me months to get my cleaning to your standards."

"No wonder. The two freaks are both horrible at cleaning."

(Y/N) crossed her arms and wrinkled her nose at Levi.

He took a quick look around, and returned his gaze to her.

It was dark, and the only sources of light were the few torches that lined the wall. Even though shadows were all she could see, it didn't take all the torches in the castle for (Y/N) to see how close Levi was.

Somehow, he had closed the gap between the two of them, leaving mere inches between their bodies. (Y/N) backed up, and he followed, until she hit the wall with a small gasp.

Steel blue eyes gazed into (E/C) ones, building a connection, a tension that could be on fire if one of the two parties made a move now.

"(Y/N)," Levi breathed, his voice low and commanding.

Thank God it's dark enough for him not to see me blush, (Y/N) thought. She felt like exploding from the sudden invasion of private space.

"Y-yes?"

Levi closed the gap between the lower part of their bodies, trailing a hand absentmindedly up (Y/N)'s thigh, the side of her stomach, and her arm. Her breath hitched in her throat, and she bit her lip to keep herself from screaming.

"I bet I know what else you're a freak at," he said casually, but in the same low, sultry voice.

(Y/N)'s breathing began to quicken. She tried to think rationally, about how the person she had known extremely well over the years was up in her face, only inches away from kissing her, but Levi's presence seemed to have shut her brain down, setting fire to every neuron in her body.

"You know," he continued. "I know you want this as badly as I do. And I've been waiting years to do it. But..."

He put his hands on either sides of her face, completely caging her in. (Y/N) kept her back and her weight on the wall, for fear that she would collapse.

If it was possible to lean any closer before they would kiss, Levi did it. Mere centimeters, enough for Levi's lips to brush hers, causing (Y/N)'s eyes to close in anticipation.

"Believe me, I want to," Levi whispered. "But...you look so much like Eren that it's starting to freak me out."

(Y/N)'s heart stopped, then dropped to her stomach.

"W-what?"

He lowered his head, nearly burying his face in the crook of her neck. His lips hovered over the patch of skin that was (Y/N)'s most sensitive spot, which she knew very well. Her breathing seemed to speed up, sending her senses into overdrive.

Instead of kissing it, Levi took a good whiff, pulling back gently.

"You smell like him, too," he said.

When he pulled away to go into his room, (Y/N) felt the connection snap, and her brain returned to its normal functioning. Her senses settled back comfortably, the uncomfortable heat in her chest had dissolved. She was back to her normal self.

Except...what was normal now? Was it normal for her to ache for Levi once he had left?
