When lunch was done Lu went back into the woods as Theo took me to the beach once again it was quiet there and we could talk with out worrying about Lu over hearing. This time we sat on some drift wood that had washed on up to shore Theo continued with asking questions about the world i grew in for a short period of time. "can you turn your feet back into a tail?" looking over at him i tried to put in to words. "Theo it's not like in story books we have to earn our tails" his mind was once again confused. "how does that effect transforming your feet back into a tail?" his weight shifted as i explained. "where i come from there is a story it has to do with our tails.. when a mermaid is out of the ocean for a long period of time they adapt to your ways and lose their tail they then have to find away to redeem it" Theo looked around listening before he answered. "so your telling me that because you have been out of the ocean for thirteen years you have to regain your tail privileges based on an old story?" Laughing i stood up. "yes" Theo rose to and i took his hand. "come i will show you" as we walked i told him about how my grandmother told me about her sister falling in love with a land dweller when that land dweller broke her heart she tried to come back to our community under the ocean but the transformation wouldn't happen.
She ended up dyeing of old age forever missing the home she left behind. Theo's eyes grew dark. "you think that will happen to you?" the brightness that was in me morphed into sadness and worry but i pushed it aside. "no i don't think so, i'm going to find a way to awaken the transformation and when i do i'm going home where i belong" we were now at the waters edge and Theo watched as i steeped into the cool waters. normally i would avoid it because it made my heart's longing to be home even stronger. Theo's face grew impatient waiting for something to happen but nothing did. "see i have to awaken the transformation before i can redeem my tail" Theo splashed out of the water our footsteps became one pace as we walked. Theo's mind was cluttered with thoughts of me not being able to go home. then anger set in as he stopped and took me by the shoulders turning me to face him. I had never seen Theo this way before his green eyes were clouded over, his hair was a short mess on his head and his tan body was tense. "we have to get you home" My eyes grew at the thought of home. "Theo there's nothing.." He cut me off again. "i'm not letting you die like your grandmother" slowly i brought my hand to his strong arm "Theo it was a choice she never tried to redeem her tail" The clouds in his eyes disappeared a little but the anger was still there. "she didn't die as herself" My hands softly placed Theo's at his side. "that may be true but she understood that she had to die so that another life force could be created" Theo's eyes started to water then i could feel what he was feeling, i felt the sharp piercing tears in the back of his eyes.
All i could do was wrap my arms around him. How could i make him understand? the only way i knew was to let him experience my world to be taught by the water dwellers he called mermaids. Maybe then he would understand, he could learn to really feel the other life sources around him, to understand what they are saying and know how important understanding these other life forces is, maybe it would help him to look at his world differently.. he has so much still to learn. Before we got deeper into our conversation Lu emerged from the trees waving us over. I looked up at Theo as my arms left his toned body. "don't worry i'll die as i am intended to die and i will be at peace with it" He looked down at me and there was something else it was more then just death. looking into his thoughts i seen he was afraid of me leaving him, leaving the island, he was afraid i would forget him and never come back. We walked over to where Lu was standing. When we reached him i looked into his deep brown eyes and seen his thoughts he was worried about something but there was also disbelief in his mind.
"There is a man on the island" I went stiff i remember Keith telling me about land dwellers hunting water dwellers that washed up on land this man was dangerous. looking over at Theo i seen he already had a suspicion about this new stranger. Theo spoke first. "where is he?" Theo's eyes went from mine to his brother as Lu responded. "I tracked him into the tree's" Lu trusted this man less than Theo and I. We had to act fast but we didn't know where to start. "okay here's what we are going to do Miracle i want you to stay hidden the only time you leave your hut is if Theo is with you, Theo i want you to protect her and yourself" We both nodded confirming what we were to do when Theo spoke. "Lu what about you?" Lu's eyes shifted around into the tree's. "don't worry about me little man i'll be fine" There was some rustling in the tree's and Lu ordered us to the huts as he took off into the forest of tree's. When we got in to Theo's hut he locked the door. I was under the bed, my heart pounding hard against my chest.
