Chapter Three: Birthday Surprises

"That is it!" Abby cried, "you are not going on a mission tomorrow! You could have been killed!"
"Well, you can't ban me! This is my job, Abby! You can't take it away from me!" Raven replied through tears. The rest of the team, and Leicester, we're watching them argue. Jenny just stood there, Connor was 'on his phone', Nick was trying not to laugh and Leicester just seemed slightly amused as he tapped his foot.
"Just give the child a break, Abby she did her best and-" Stephen said cut off by Abby saying, "Stay out of it!"
"You're not my mum!" Raven screamed before storming out of the hall. Stephen followed her.
"Need a lift?" He asked. She nodded and gave him a look that said she wanted to go home early without Abby bothering her.

"So see you tomorrow?" Stephen said as he walked her to the door.
"Yeah. Thanks for the ride," she said giving him a hug. He went and drove off. She went inside and went to bed.

The next day she got up early so Abby wouldn't be able to bring anything up. She washed and got dressed then jogged downstairs. Abby was already awake.
"You are not going to work today. You are going to stay home and rest." Abby said with a grin on her face.
"But it's my birthday! My 18th!" She exclaimed.
"Even more reason for you to stay alive," Abby said back, "I will be back at 5:00 so no trouble,OK?" Raven nodded. Abby left. When her car was gone from the street, she called Stephen.
"What time do you call this?" He murmured half asleep.
"It's only 7:30! Please take me to the forest, where the anomaly will be. Or I will just go on my own."
"Yeah, I'll pick you up at 8, okay?" He did not sound in the mood, "Oh, and happy birthday!"
"Thanks! Bye." And with that the call ended.

The ride to the forest was awkwardly silent. Neither dared speak a word.

When they arrived, everyone else had gone off. They grabbed the tranquillisers and headed North-West. Later on they bumped into Abby.
"What the hell is she doing here!" Abby demanded.
"I begged him to take me Abby!" Raven interrupted.
"Doesn't mean he has to agree" Abby hissed.
"You know what? You are the worst aunt ever! I am sick of you butting in with my life! Just stay out of it okay?!" Raven stormed off crying.

Soon she heard twigs snap. She stopped. More snapping. Her breathing sped up. She heard a gun shot, felt a pain in her cut thigh and passed out.

It was evening when she woke up in the A.R.C medical centre. There beside her, was Stephen.
"Hey sleepy head. How are you doing?" He asked her.
"What happened?" She asked him.
"Well Connor mistook you for a dinosaur and shot you with tranquilliser in the leg."
"Great!" She said sarcastically.
"I forgot about your birthday present," he said before kissing her. She was surprised. They stopped when Abby and Connor came in.
"Sorry! About earlier with the dart and just walking in on you right now!" Connor looked worried.
"No worries Connor. I am a jinx after all. And I think I have just had some of the best and worst surprises on any birthday." Raven laughed, " getting shot was the worst and the kiss was the best!"
