CHAPTER EIGHT
Saturday, September 12th

Randy had called earlier saying that a vehicle would arrive at his house to 'transport' Alex to the Ludrick  Manor, but Alex wondered how Randy had gotten a hold of his address or his phone number for that matter.

It was a nice sunny weekend and the forecast predicted that there would be no rain. At least he could enjoy the heat before winter set in, he had cancelled every plan just for this visit.

He was nervous, not because he was going to meet Randy's parents, sure they were the second richest family in the town, and yes he had checked, rather Alex was nervous because Amara -the red haired girl - would be there. He had so many questions all unanswered. Some would be answered while he'd have to find others out himself.

A black car rode into his driveway, it wasn't his mom's and he could only assume it was the transport Randy promised. Alex stepped out of his house and a man came out of the car, he was wearing a black suit and dark glasses, "Mr Scott?" He asked taking them off, his features were stoic and familiar, it was Sid!

Sid, the man Alex met at the park. He was meant to be part of the cleaning crew what was he doing here. Alex choked on nothing and started coughing, "Sid, I mean, yeah - yes, that's me... Mr Scott,"

He gestured to the car and opened the back seat door without saying anything, Alex walked in and sat on the black leather seat. The exterior of the car didn't give a hint at the interior; a mini fridge sat at one end of the car and black tinted glass separated the driver's side and the back seats, and there were cup holders that had glass cups for the array of drinks that the mini fridge held.

The car slid out of the drive way and joined the traffic with a gentle purr. In a matter of minutes they had reached Blue Lake park, but the car didn't stop, it drove past the park gates and joined a road Alex had never been through before.

Surely they were taking him to the Ludrick manor, the same one he he had been to last time. As if to assure him they arrived at a huge gate that had 'Ludrick Manor' written in gold but it wasn't the same entrance he had seen, and there was no garden.

The gates slid open automatically and the car drove through. The house was  stunning, this was definitely the front entrance because it was more beautiful than the other one.

There was a fountain and huge -as - hell driveway with parking spaces that could take over twenty cars. Off to the side he spotted badminton and tennis courts, with people playing on it. There were huge trees and flower beds all over, it didn't seem like a house, more like a posh modern day expensive Victorian hotel.

"'Not that rich' she said, I need to give that girl a slap upside the back of her head, is she blind?" Alex murmured.

"Welcome to my humble abode," Randy said once Alex had gotten down, he had been standing there waiting for their arrival with a huge grin on his face.
"Well not really humble but welcome," he said shrugging,

"Hey, Randy nice place, it's so huge; a tennis court? I bet you have a pool and a soccer pitch back there," Alex joked as he ascended the polished marble stairs,

"Not at all. The soccer pitch is in the other mansion in San Fransisco, but we have an indoor pool," he was stunned, another house? How rich were these people,
"I was joking, ... about the indoor pool, come on in."

They had a foyer, a large one that was the size of his room,
"Hey Alex keep up and stop staring you'll have lots of time for that later,"

They walked into the dining room, a long mahogany table filled most of the space, a glass chandelier hung above the dining table with rubies embedded in it, red chairs with velvet cushions lined the sides of the table, one chair was at the head, he didn't know if Randy had any siblings but there were certainly to many chairs for a family or two.

"This is were food is served, we'll meet back here with everyone after you meet my folks and tour the manor,"

Alex followed Randy to another room, "so when do I get to meet your folks?" he asked

"Right now."

The people in the room turned to look as Randy opened the double doors, it looked like there was a ball, the ladies wore silk gowns of different sizes and shapes and the men wore tuxedos. A couple that seemed older than evey one else walked up to them , the man grabbed his hand and shook it,

"Ah, what a nice and firm grip, I'm impressed. How are you doing Alex,"

"I'm doing fine, thank you Mr Ludrick," he said although he was a bit surprised at his straight forwardness. The woman reached out to Alex and he extended his hand to receive the handshake but she pulled him into a hug, she pulled away and said,
"How're your injuries holding up Alex?" she asked, he looked at her a smile forming on his lips,

"They're all right," he said, he didn't even know who these people were but they were already very friendly and concerned,

"Let me be first to apologise, they are usually this friendly." A young man walked up to them from the party, along with a woman wrapped around his arm, "I'm Mark Ludrick, Randy's elder brother, this is my fiancée Chantal, he said gesturing to the other woman,
"It's nice to meet you," she said, "I heard what happened, it's unfortunate that you suffered such a fate, I offer my condolences,"

"You mean the attack? Don't worry about it I'm totally fine," he wasn't completely lying, sure when he moved too suddenly his body exploded in pain but his hand was fine, turns out his hand wasn't broken, just a minor fracture that healed in days.

"Anyways, these are my parents, Frank and Martha, the owners of the Ludrick fortune." Randy said and walked away, he walked over to another group, some he recognized from school, others he didn't.

"Don't worry just go socialize, everyone here knows who you are," Frank said giving him a slap on the back, "go have fun, dance with whoever you want!"

Alex stumbled into the room, which was huge just like everything else in the house, he looked around for friendly faces but saw none but he was quickly pulled into a conversation.
It was filled with awkward laughs and he but he got to know their names.
Alex finally escaped that group and wandered through the crowd, he grabbed a drink off a tray and sat alone at the back of the room.

He took another swig of his drink and stared into the crowd, a flash of red passed by; flowing red hair floated through the dancing and chatting people and disappeared behind a door.

Alex stood up to follow, it was his first sign of Amara all day.
