Chapter 2
Callum
I sat in the dark library, surrounded by papers. The fire was lit bringing warmth and more light to the room than the lamps that circled me. It was only five o'clock and already the sun was gone and the stars were out. Frost was stuck to the windows behind me reminding me how close to winter it was.
Sitting back in my chair, I slightly closed my eyes. I thought by bringing my desk out to the library, it would make me want to do paper work but no matter what room you were doing work in, it was still boring as hell. Even just the thought was enough for me to go to sleep.
The wolf inside of me stirred at the thought about going outside. I had always loved going out in the rain and now was the perfect time. But the work for the estate couldn't wait. It was supposed to be done weeks ago but my other responsibilities got in the way. How could I possibly concentrate when I was always being interrupted?
"I'm goin' to kill you!"
My head shot up in attention at the sound of my sister's roar. And this was why the paper work was always late.
Just as I was about to go see what was going on, the problem came to me.
"I'm just lookin' out for you," Graham told her as Allie burst through the double doors of the library.
"Lookin' out for me, is that what you call it?" she asked him before she turned to me, "Brother, can you please tell Graham why he thought it was a good idea to threaten my hook up?"
My eyes widened. It didn't surprise me that Graham would threaten any lad that Allie was seeing. But it surprised me that she would openly admit that she was seeing someone.
"Oh please, you couldn' call that hamshank a hook up," Graham said so truly.
I frowned realizing that I was missing an important detail.
"Who was he anyway?" I asked.
Allie went to tell me but Graham jumped in, "Morven Atchison."
I frowned again. He was a lad that lived in the village that delivered papers to the shops.
"Wait, the guy with the glasses?"
Graham nodded reserving Allie's killer stare. I bit my lip and turned my gaze away from hers.
"I'm sure he has a great personality," I said hoping to stay in my little sister's good books.
"I'm sure personality isn't what she's interested in."
Allie gave a mighty war cry before she lunched herself on our brother.
"I will kill you!" she cried again, wrapping her hands around his neck.
My eyes widen when I caught a glimpsed of her golden wolf eyes knowing what would happened next if she didn't calm down.
"Shite, Archie I need you!" I called out.
In less than a minute, my brother came through the still opened doors of the library.
"Oh God, what happened now?" he groaned knowing as well as me that this was a common occurrence.
"Don't worry about that now! Just help me."
I paced over to Allie and wrapped my arms around her. Using all my strength, I peeled her off him. She was kicking and screaming, threatening him and calling him every name under the sun.
"Allie, control yourself," I ordered her.
I looked to Archie who was having just has much trouble of controlling Graham as I was with Allie.
"If you shift in here and break the furniture, your dead," Archie warned him as Graham's eyes started to glow gold.
"I don't care about the furniture," Allie growled.
"Ma would," I told her calmly in her ear.
Slowly, the two of them stopped struggling against our grip and started to calm down.
"Go cool off," I told her letting go.
She nodded, avoiding my gaze and walked out of the room. Once she had, Archie let go of Graham.
"I'm j-just goin'..." He didn't finish.
He just walked out of the room and turned in the opposite direction of Allie.
Both Archie and I let out a groan, trying to catch our own breath.
"How many times is that?" He asked me.
"In a year or month?"
"More like week."
I chuckled at that. Ever since the twins turned eighteen they had been at each other's throats every chance they got.
I frowned, noticing the missing puzzle piece, "where's Malcolm?"
"Isn' that a stupid question? He's where he normally is."
I swallowed knowing exactly where he was. In the attic. He was always there. Ever since...
I sighed, shaking the thought out of my head.
"Well, I have to get back topaper work," I told him, moving back behind my desk.
"Aye, otherwise it might actually get done."
I narrowed my eyes at him but he just chuckled and walked out of the room.
