Chapter 32
Callum
"What the hell do you mean?" I yelled feeling my wolf raise inside of me.
"Hector's pack was spotted at our boundary, they've broken through," Donald told me.
I groaned turning from all of them. Too many things were running through my mind. How the hell was I going to get my pack out alive? How was my family going to survive? How could I keep Liv safe?
Hector was trying to repeat history. Trying to turn our parents war into ours and I would be damn if I would let what happened to my parents, happen to me. Even if it meant saying goodbye to my mate.
Placing my hands on my hips, I asked, "Where's the pack now?"
"All down stairs, waitin' for orders," Donald answered.
"All of them?"
"The ones that can fight. The children and the oldies have already left for the village."
I nodded, liking the idea.
"How dare they do this again?" Graham growled cutting through my thoughts, "Didn't they learn their lesson?"
"Okay Graham, go out and fight them," Archie suggested.
"I'm not afraid of fightin'. Not for my family."
"That's great, are you afraid of dyin'?" Allie asked.
"Are you?"
I swallowed at the sound of their voices. Her and Graham were only twenty-one. They shouldn't die.
"Graham and Allie, take Liv to the safe house," I ordered still not looking at them.
"What? Callum no," Liv argued.
"Liv, we don't have time to argue!" I snapped, finally turning to face them.
She looked just as angry as I was.
"Every minute we spend here arguin' they are gettin' closer!"
"Your parents were in the same situation as us! What did they do?" She asked.
It annoyed me that she was trying to use my parents against me. Something that she knew nothing about.
"My parents died Liv! Do you remember that part of the story?" I snapped.
"But they -."
"Don't you dare say it?" I snapped knowing full well what she was going to say.
That they died together.
"I'm not leaving you to die alone!" She yelled, her voice creaking.
"I don't want to lose you," I told her, pacing over to her and wrapping her in my arms.
I memorised the feel of her against me and the way her body shaped mine. The way her hair smelt like her strawberry shampoo and the way she nuzzled her face into my chest.
"Please do this for me," I was now begging.
My heart broke when I felt her nod against me. The down side of keeping her safe. I would have to let her go.
"That's a great plan, Brother but we're stayin'," Allie argued.
I groaned, feeling frustrated and tired. I didn't want to go through this again.
"Allie, you will -."
"I'll take her."
I stopped at the sound of Malcolm's voice. He was so still and silent that I wasn't even sure that he had said it.
"You will?" I asked.
He shrugged, "I'm not a wolf anyone, not really anyway. The twins are more useful here."
I nodded agreeing.
"I'll keep her safe, Brother," he promised me, "I give you my word that I'll put her life in front of my own."
It broke my heart and warmed it hearing him say those words. I didn't want to lose my brother. But I didn't want to lose my mate.
"Alpha, you need to get down there," Donald reminded me.
I nodded and turned to Liv. She was on the verge of tears and avoided my gaze.
"I guess this is good -,"
"Don't say it," Archie jumped in before she could finish, "it's see you later."
She nodded and turned her gaze to me.
"I love you," I told.
She nodded and found her way into my arms.
"I love you too."
Kissing the crown of her head, I handed her to my brother.
To him I said, "keep her safe."
He nodded and taking her upper arm and leading her out of my room. My life, my love were all in the hands of my lonely brother.
I sighed, trying to turn into the leader that I was meant to be.
"Okay, let's go."
Donald was right. Every member of the pack that could fight were gathered in the void, arguing amongst themselves. I could sense their anger and frustration that they felt and their emotions were rubbing off on mine. But I needed to be level-headed. I needed to think straight.
"Everyone!" I started, getting everyone's attention and quietening them, "I know your angry and I know your frustrated. But we need to think logically."
"Well I say we go in there and rip all them apart!" Cuddy yelled, getting a small cheer behind him.
"That's not the way we want to go about this," I told him, "the best and only way all of us are goin' to get out of this alive is if we reason with Macangus first."
"And if they don't want to reason?"Artair questioned.
"Then we show them what we're made of. We are the rulin' pack and I am your King. I won't let them take over what's rightfully ours!"
"Aye!" They cheered.
"All of our families suffered when they came the first time. We lost our king and queen, some of you lost your children, your parents, your grandparents. If they want to do it again, then let's show them why they shouldn't try it a third time!"
"Aye!" They cheered again.
"Move out!" I ordered.
With that my pack turned and ran out of the front doors. My siblings followed them with me not far behind.
I felt the ground tremble under my feet and in a blink of an eye I saw things differently. Everything turned to black and white and my speed fastened. Senses thickened. I could smell the wolves who ran beside me and the bird that was sitting on the tallest branch of the trees. I made my way through my pack, till I was at the front.
Unfamiliar smells came from me causing an image to fill my head.
The intruders had just entered our boundaries, killing any plant or any animal that got in their way.
I halted to a stop causing my pack to stumble. They sent messages to me to ask what was wrong but I blocked them out. I needed a clear head.
Throwing my head back I howled a warning. If they didn't want bloodshed than they had to turn away now. Hearing my message, my pack joined in, turning my voice into millions. I felt my strength grow as my pack united and became one. But our voices quietened when a warning was sent to us. If we didn't want bloodshed, I had to submit now.
I felt my Brother, my Beta, beside me and felt his message in my head.
We will follow you to the grave. Don't submit
Growls escaped my chest as anger built up inside of me. This was my pack, my kingdom and my territory. No body warns the king.
I would welcome their threats. Show them why I'm their king.
Ghostly figures of wolves came up from the slop, dripping wet. Their bodies stretched out into a line that covered feet and feet of land. They seemed proud of their numbers. They held their heads low showing off their teeth. Another threat. I spied young wolf cubs in between the larger ones and sensed their fear.
I sent the image to my pack as well as the message to not hurt them if possible.
Grumbles came from a few of them but none would disobey me.
Two wolves came up beside me, their coats almost identical. I recognised their smell as my brothers and recognised their black coats and white bellies.
Next to them, the small white she-wolf appeared, flashing our family's bright golden eyes. I felt our bond and I felt it tighten. If we were going to die we were going together.
An image of a large grey wolf flooded my head that I didn't recognise as the alpha.
A message quickly followed it.
It's the beta. The alpha isn't here
More growls escaped my lips as I realized what a coward my rival was. He send children to do his dirty work.
A war cry erupted from the other pack causing my own pack to jump at the ready. They charged at full pace as mine stayed still.
Messages of panic filled my head as my pack wanted to charge. But I did not send the order.
It wasn't till they were three trees away that I started to charge. My pack followed my attack.
When we hit the pack it was like two storm clouds crushing into each other and creating lightening. The thunder of our paw on the ground shook the earth as our growls echoed through the air.
I found the Beta and as he wasn't expecting it, I took his ear in my teeth. Realizing who I was, he tried to claw at my feet till I let go. We didn't have space to circle each other. It was an attack or leave.
He chose to attack.
I felt his claws rip my shoulder blade and I felt the hot liquid break the barrier of the cut. Growls of anger and frustration erupted but my only option to cause pain was to headbutt him.
An image forced its way into me head. It was of two brown wolves that I recognised. Their red eyes sent shivers down my spine. My human recognised the house in the image noticing it has home. The wolves were at the house.
Fear ripped through me that felt more painful than the cut in my chest.
Breaking out of the image, I pushed away from the wolf and ran in the other direction.
I sent the message and image to my siblings telling them to continue the fight.
I needed to protect my mate.
