Chapter 4
Olivia
Scotland was beautiful. I had never seen anything like it. I had gotten off the plane at Edinburgh, just before ten-thirty. It was freezing and the dark clouds threatened to rain at any moment. The streets were like something I had seen in paintings. With old stone brick stores and pubs, some three stories high. People walked along the brick paved streets and I could hear bag pipes being played somewhere around the corner. Slowly, I forgot what the streets in the New York looked like.
I was looking for a bus stop. My next stop was to Rosewell where I would stay for the night at a pub before I headed out to an estate turned Museum to look at the paintings it held.
The more I looked around, the more I began to love Scotland. I had always loved the rain growing up. More often than not, my parents had to drag me back inside so that I didn't catch a cold. I loved the cold weather and couldn't stand the heat. So Scotland was looking like the ideal place to live right now.
When I had called Amy to tell her that I survived the plane trip, she was so excited for me. My sister had a heart bigger than her brain. She got it from Mom.
Amy was a dead ringer for Mom. She had her dark brown hair and big brown eyes. When I was stuck with Dad's dirty blonde curls and deep blue eyes. I was pale from hardly ever going out in the sun and was shorter than the average height.
I didn't have guys falling all over me like Amy and I probably wouldn't notice if I had. I was dedicated to my work and I was ashamed to admit it. I didn't want to get my heart broken. And I couldn't afford to lose another person in my life.
I was just nineteen when Mom and Dad died. Amy hadn't finished school and if it wasn't for the money Mom and Dad left us, I doubt we would have survived. At the time I was only working medium wage at a pub, trying to put myself through college as well as trying to support Amy with school. We had nobody but each other. And that's the way we liked it. Or, well, I liked it. I didn't have time to waste on guys like Amy did. Not when I had responsibilities at an age when responsibilities should mean nothing.
I sighed, spotting the bus stop up ahead.
Just promise me one thing, Liv. When you get to Scotland, you let your hair down and have some fun Maddie's voice played in my head, reminding me of what I had promised.
I rolled my eyes and thought, Sure Mad, I'll do whatever you say

Callum
"So you have a meetin' with the Alpha of the pack just by the boundary at eleven," Archie told me as we walked down the gallery.
Other members of the pack walked down below us making me envy their free life. No meetings, no responsibilities.
"And what is this meetin' about?" I asked him.
"Callum, don't you read anythin'," he complained.
I gave him a hopeless look making him sigh.
"He said that he is havin' problems with rogues on his land. He wants you to do somethin' about it."
I sighed rubbing my temple. It was hard enough controlling my own pack let alone everyone else's.
"What about at one, I know I have somethin' at one?" I asked.
Archie flicked through the book that he held in his arms, humming as he did.
"Aye, you're trainin' the younger wolves."
I halted, "What? That's your job."
"No, I have to go out with the others and check the boundaries."
"Well then, I'll do that."
He shook his head as an evil grin formed on his face.
"No, no Brother. We have already organised this. And besides, it will be better if the Alpha trains them."
"Since when?" I asked, not believing that this was true.
"Since now," I scoffed at him, "Calm down, Callum, there's only five of them. And it's not like it's your first time trainin' new wolves."
He was right. But more things were growing on my plate every minute and I had no idea where to start.
I sighed, giving into my fate, "Okay, well, I want you to take Graham with you on your check."
He nodded, patting my shoulder. His gaze turned to something behind me, making me frown.
"Looks like the Alpha's early, good luck Brother."
I was about to protest but Archie had already turned and was heading fast in the other direction. Coward.
"Ah, Lord Patterson."
I turned at the sound of my name being called by a man I recognised but couldn't find the name to match his face. He was an old man, probably in his late fifties, with white hair and a white beard. He wore an old checkered shirt and jeans. I slowly recorded that the pack he led farmed.
"Aye, Mr..."
"Mr Ewart," he answered for me, shaking my hand, "aye, I did some work for your father once or twice over the years."
I nodded, knowing that's how I recognised him.
"Well, come to my office. We can talk there."
He nodded as I led the way to the library.
I opened the two doors to the light room, shutting it once we were both inside.
"So I hear you have a rogue problem," I started, walking behind my desk and taking a seat.
"Aye. Normally I wouldn' worry about it but they're becomin' more frequent. Killin' livestock on me farm as well as on other farms around the village. The more livestock goes missin' –."
"The more the village people will notice and the more likely they will be wantin' a wolf hunt," I finished.
"Accept it won't be wolves they'd be huntin'."
I nodded, realizing the problem on our hands. There were a few packs that sat on the boundary of mine. Small and never caused trouble. Rogues came through every now and then but wouldn't dare to try and cause any trouble being so close to us. The Royal family of the wolves.
"Do you have any idea to why there's been so many?" I asked him.
He shook his head, "No, me lord. That's why I came to you."
I nodded, excepting that answer.
"Well, I will see what I can find out about it and keep you posted."
He nodded and turned out of the library. I groaned sitting back. Another thing to add on my plate. Being King sure had its down sides and not many ups.
