Kehlani POV

Present Day

I walked over to Chris's house and rang the doorbell. Chris answered the door and smiled.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked walking in.

"I wanted to take in your beauty."

"Well, it's strange." I walked into the kitchen and went into the cabinet and grabbed 2 wine glasses.

"I can't take in your beauty?" he asked getting the wine.

"No, I mean, yes you can. But not like that. You look like you wanted to take my soul." he laughed and opened the wine bottle.

"Maybe I want to." he poured the wine in the glass and looked at me. "When is your birthday?" he asked for the millionth time.

I rolled my eyes and looked over at him grabbing a glass. "April 24." he looked at me shocked.

"Oh shit. I'm so sorry." he ran over to the closet in the kitchen. "I thought you said something else so I've been waiting for that day to give this to you." He walked over to me and handed me a bag. I looked at him.

"What is it?"

"Look inside nigga." he sat down at the island and sipped some of his wine. "I swear this shit is nasty." he stuck out his tongue and put the cup on the island.

I looked inside of the bag and saw a whole shit load of tissue paper. I looked up at Chris.

"Take out the paper." he said. I took out the paper and looked inside. It was a frame. I looked at Chris confused.

"Chris?"

"Pull out the frame, nigga." I pulled it out and looked at it. It was painting of me. I looked at Chris and smiled.

"Thank you." I said. I touched it and then looked up again. "You painted this?"

"Yeah."
"It's really good." I said as a tear fell down my cheek.

"Thank you. I've been working on this for a while. I mean, I started working on this since the day we met."

"It's really nice."
"Don't cry, Lani." he said wiping my cheek with his thumb. "It's alright."

Chris threw the ball to me. I almost caught it but it dropped. I looked at him as he laughed. "Nigga, I literally threw at you. How the hell did you drop that?"

"Nigga, stop playing games." He walked up to me and held out his hand. "What are you doing?"

"Giving you a hand."

"I'm literally standing up. What for?"

"So you know I'm here." I pushed him slightly.

"Move nigga." I walked into his kitchen and grabbed an apple.

"Uh, who told you that you can have that?" he asked grabbing the apple.

"Same nigga who ate my ass." He opened his eyes wide as one of his friends looked at me.

"Who's this?" he asked. I smirked at Chris as he whispered in my ear.

"Keep that to yourself." he bit my ear and looked at the man. "Uh, Kehlani, meet my best friend, Trey." Trey looked at me. He smiled and held out his hand.

"Nice meeting you, Kehlani." we shook hands.

"Yeah. Nice meeting you too." I looked at Chris. He smiled and hugged Trey.

"I missed you man." they said at the same time. I looked away awkwardly. I mean. Two very straight men were hugging each other and rubbing each other's back.

I turned back towards them. They were looking at me.

"I think she thinks we're weird." Trey whispered. Chris smiled and walked up to me and held my hand.

"Nah, she thinks I'm weird." he admitted.

"Nah, I know you're weird." they laughed and then walked into the kitchen. I looked around the house and then followed them in the kitchen. The pulled down the henny and started drinking some. I looked around.

"Want some"? Chris asked.

"Yeah, no. I can't."
"Why not?... Wait when's your birthday?"

"April 24."
"You're not 21 yet?" Trey asked.

"No."

"Oh, yeah, I always assumed you were old enough." Chris said. He pulled out a juice box and handed it to me. "I wanna treat you like I treat Royalty."
"Like a child, nigga?" Trey asked.

"No, well, sort of. But as my Queen. But Ro is my first and more important Queen."

"You should've kept that to yourself." I mumbled. I sighed and opened it drinking some.

"Sorry.' he kissed my forehead already wreaking of alcohol. I hate it.

"I should go."
"Party pooper." Trey said looking into my eyes. I looked at Chris.

"I mean, if she wants to go, let her go. We have to respect her wishes." Chris said sighing.

"You didn't respect my wishes." I said looking at him. He choked on his drink and looked at Trey.

"Uh, what?" I looked over at Trey and then back at Chris.

"You knew what I wanted to do." I said. Chris stood up and walked over to me.

"I wanted to wait. OK? I know what you wanted, but I wanted something different and I knew that this would have messed us up in the future." he whispered. "OK? I messed up so many times before, I want to make sure this, whatever this is, is right." he nodded and I shrugged.

"Ok."

"Alright." he kissed my cheek and smiled. "See you soon?"

"Yep." I smiled and waved to Trey. "See ya around." he waved back. I walked out the front door with Chris following me. I looked at him. "Why you following me?"

"I just wanted to see you off."

"Nigga, I ain't going to prom."

"I know, I just, I wanted to make sure you got home safe." he smiled.

"Well, I can walk 500 feet to my house safely. I promise."

"OK. But, I'm still going to watch you."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night" I said. He kissed my cheek. I smiled and walked away. To my house where, I saw Jhene looking out the window. She smirked at me.

"I knew you were getting some girl." She said running out the house.

"Was not." I watched her grab a handful of rice and throw it at me. "What the fuck?"
"I'm practicing for your wedding."
'Who throws rice at weddings?" I asked shaking it out my hair.

"Uh, our ancestors. People still throw it nowadays."
"And besides, I'm not marrying Chris We're just friends." I walked into the house and drank the rest of my juice box.

"Yeah, that's what they all say. And I got a question for ya."
"Yeah, wassup?" I asked.

"Why the hell you got a juice box?" she asked looking down at it.
