Kehlani laid back on the blanket and started to sing a song faintly.
"Boy,
I've been watching you
Like the hawk in the sky
That flies, but
You are my prey (my prey)
Boy, I promise you
If we keep bumpin' heads
I know that one of these days (days)
We gone hook it up
Probably talk on the phone
But see I don't know if that's good
I've been holding back
This secret from you
Probably shouldn't tell it but if I." She sang. I looked over at her and started to sing along.
" If I let you know
You can't tell nobody
I'm talking bout nobody
Are you responsible?
Boy I gotta watch my back
'Cause I'm not just anybody
Is it my go, is it your go
Sometimes I'm goody goody
Right now I'm naughty naughty
Say yes or say no
'Cause I really need somebody
Tell me are you that somebody." We sang. Kehlani chuckled.
"I didn't know you could sing." I said.
"I usually don't sing around people." She said. "But I feel more comfortable around you."
. "I like that you feel comfortable around me."
She looked over at me. "Yeah."
"Do you like Aaliyah?" I asked. She smiled brightly and nodded.
"Shes my idol. I love her." She said. She ran her hand through my hair. "So, either shes your idol two or you just know her song." She chuckled. I laughed and nodded.
"When she was alive, I just guess I remembered her songs just in case she ever fell in love with me. I did the same thing with Beyoncé." I admitted. Kehlani laughed and looked over at me.
"Really." She said laughing.
"But on the real side, one my idols is Micheal Jackson. Also James Brown and everything you know, like that. My parents used to listen to them all the time." I said.
"Yeah, my aunt used to listen to that too." she smiled brightly then looked over at me. "What's for dinner? I'm starving."  I looked over at the basket, and smiled.
I stood up and held out my hand. She looked at it. "Come on nigga." I said causing her to laugh. She grabbed my hand and I pulled her up.
I led her towards the dock and there sat our table and chairs. I smiled as my cousin, came up and walked Kehlani to her chair. I sat down across from her.
She looked down at the piece of paper on the table. She laughed
"If you were going to only serve one thing, you could've said so." She said in-between breaths. I laughed with her and nodded for my cousin to bring out the food. He walked up to the table and set our food down.
After he left, Kehlani started to dig into the food. I stared at her. She looked up at me with spaghetti hanging out her mouth. "Whut?" She asked.
"Niggas ain't saying grace?" I asked. She nodded then put her fork down. She held her hand out to me. I shook my head as she smiled with her face stained with the tomato sauce.
"OK." I said. Taking her hand into mine.
"God is great. God is good. Let us thank him for our food. Amen." I said.
Kehlani mumbled a fast Amen and dug into her food again. I tried my best to hold in my laugh and started to eat.
"So, tell me more about you that the press doesn't cover?" She asked after a moment of silence. I looked up at her.
"Well, I like to paint. Uh. My daughter is my main priority. I dont like when people act like I dont have feelings. I'm a human being and, uh, I guess I just like to chill. I'm a chill person." I admitted. She looked into my eyes. "and I can't wait for this baby so i can spend time with him or her. I can spoil them and shit. You know, I wanted another kid for a while. Real shit, I wanted a kid in 2014. But, things happened but, I ended up getting one although I heard about her a year later." I said. She smiled.
"Thats cute." She said.
"So tell me about you."
"What is there to know really?"
"I don't know. What is there to know about you that I didn't already know."
"You sound like you getting smart." She joked. I shrugged my shoulders and looked at her
"I don't know. That's for you to figure out." I said. She smiled.
"Well, I grew up with my aunt-"
"You already told me that." I said cutting her off. She looked at me and frowned.
"You want me to tell you or no?" She asked. I nodded and she cleared her throat.
"Well, yeah, I grew up with my aunt. My father died when I was young and my mother was in and out of jail and shit. I just want to make sure this little nugget doesn't have to go through what I went through." She said looking down at her stomach. I looked away and cleared my throat. And then looked at her again.
"I know youll be a great parent to hopefully Chris Jr." She frowned. "what?" I asked.
"I ain't having a son."
"Well i want a boy. I already had a girl." I said.
"But aren't you worried about, you know, him getting shot."
"Well damn, get on the heavy shit will ya." I looked at her as she stared at me. "I thought about that but, you know, but you can't let that be making you scared to live. To put babies in the world. All we can do is hope for the best. Because God has a plan. And hopefully, prayfully, it's a good one." I said. Kehlani leaned in, kissing me. I smiled against her lips. She pulled away and looked at me.
"Are you ready to go home? Because I'm tired as fuck."
