Chapter Twelve

Chris Pov
I watched her as she struggled with the crib that I knew I was supposed to put together. But I fucked up something real bad.
I sighed as someone knocked on my door. I opened it. Nia stood there with Royalty in her arms.
"Hey Chris." She said handing Royalty to me.
"Hi." I said in a melodic tone to Royalty.
"She ain't eat yet." Nia said handing me her bags.
"Want nuggets?" I asked Royalty. She smiled and nodded. I looked at Nia. "Alright thanks." I said. Nia stared at me.
"Look, I know we ain't the best of friends, but, I can tell something is on your mind." She said. I shook my head.
"Its nothing." I lied taking Royalty into the living room and turning on cartoons.
Nia followed me. "Well, I can't help you when you're in need Chris. I want to help. I don't want you depressed. You're the father of my daughter."
I looked over at her. "Nia, it's nothing. I swear." She stared at me and nodded.
"Don't do anything dumb around her Chris." She started to walk to the door. Once she got there she turned and looked at me. "I'm always here if you wanna talk." She said. I nodded and walked out the door. I turned to Royalty and smiled.
"Nuggets!" We said at the same time.

Later that day
I was picking up Royalty toys and putting in her toy box. Then someone knocked on the door.
I looked over at Royalty, who was sleep.
I sighed and dropped the SpongeBob toy in the toy box and walked over to the door. I opened it and Jhene stood there holding a piece of paper and a key.
"What's this?"
"Kehlani and I can't do all of this baby shit. OK, I need you to come over tomorrow at the time that is written on the paper. Do the things I asked and I'll put in some good words for ya Chris. Are we understood?" She asked. I took the paper and looked at it.
"Yeah. I guess." I said. She nodded.
"Even though the thing you did was fucked up Chris, I kinda want you too together. You two were cute." She sighed. "Just do what I said. OK?" She walked off. I closed the door putting the paper and key on the table. Then i went back in Royalty's room and finished picking up the toys.

The next day
Royalty ran towards the door as i followed behind her. I looked down at the paper and sighed. I pulled the key put my pocket and unlocked it. The alarm went off. I punched in the 4 digit code. 0424
I smiled as the alarm stopped. J picked up Royalty and carried her up to the baby's room.
I looked around and saw how the room was being completed.
The crib was still in pieces on the floor. I sighed and gave Royalty my phone so she could watch Netflix. Then I got to work.

A couple hour later
I finally had the crib done. I put the sheet on it and everything else. Then I put together the changing table.
Once I screwed in the last screw, I heard the door open. I looked over and saw Jhene.
"You got to go now before she realizes you're in here." She said. I picked up Royalty and ran down the steps. Once I got to the door, I heard my.name being called.
I turned around and looked at the person who said my name. Kehlani.
