For anyone that doesn't understand the picture. The guy with the phone is Aiden from Watchdogs. He can do anything with his phone, change traffic lights, block roads, hack computers, turn of lamps, unlock automatic doors, anything. He can also tell who people are.

I quickly put on all my weapons and crept to the window. I tossed a throwing knife from hand to hand nervously.

I took a deep breath. Now or never! I opened the window carefully so I wouldn't alert the guards. I threw the knife and it struck the closest guard in the back of his neck. He let out a strangled cry, making me flinch as the other guards turned. I yanked out three more knives and threw them in rapid succession, killing each of the guards.

I jumped silently from my window to the roof and looked around. There were at least five guards on each rooftop. I moved to the edge of the roof I was on and saw dozens of guards on the ground. Part of me wanted to leap down and kill them all quickly.

A black bird soared over my head, landing on the roof next to me. A raven. It clicked its beak at me and bounced, pecking at a ladder. "Here!" it cawed.

I smiled at the bird. "Thanks," I whispered.

It squawked and fluttered up to my shoulder.

I was careful to not knock the bird off as I climbed down the ladder. I pressed my back to the wall, hoping the shadows would conceal me as I pulled my hood up. The little black triangle just visible between my eyes. I took a deep breath and slid into the shadows on the street.

The raven on my shoulder flapped its wings to get more comfortable. I ducked behind a carriage as a group of guards with lanterns walked by.

I started making my way toward the clock tower. It was difficult to dodge around the gangs and guards that were everywhere. The only gang that didn't seem to care about my existence were few and far between, but they all wore an ugly shade of green, making them the most obvious.

I stopped at the base of the tower and looked up. I could just see a white figure standing on the roof. I needed to climb. I should have known. I looked over at the raven, who was now sleeping on my shoulder. I touched its head and smiled. "I won't let you fall off," I whispered.

I started climbing slowly, staying true to my quiet promise to the sleeping bird. I pulled myself onto the roof.

Connor stood several feet away. He'd brought a lantern, likely so he could see me. I stepped up behind him and tapped his shoulder. He turned around quickly, almost knocking the bird off my shoulder with his hand.

I reached out and moved his hand away from the raven. "You almost knocked him off!" I hissed. "Careful!"

Connor looked at the bird and smiled. "Sorry. I see he managed to find you, and Archer and Shay got your weapons. Good. They should be here soon."

I sat down and leaned back against the roof. The bird readjusted so he was on my chest. Connor kept a silent watch on the streets below.

"Rook! Come here now!" an almost inaudible voice shouted.

Without thinking, I got up. The raven squawked and flapped his wings to keep from falling. Connor looked toward me as I started toward the edge of the roof. "Where are you going Rook?"

I didn't answer. I grabbed the edge of the roof and dropped down so I was hanging. I started climbing down.

"Rook!" the shout came from Connor and the faraway voice of my father.

I stopped half way down the wall and looked up at Connor. He had a worried look on his face. "Rook. Where are you going?"

My mind cleared and I looked around. "I was-"

   "Rook!" my father called again.

I turned back to start climbing down again but I felt something grab my hood. I looked up and saw. Archer hanging from a window holding my hood. He smiled slightly. "Not today Blackbird."

I tried to pull away from him, but couldn't get enough leverage from where I hung. I climbed back up to the roof. Connor and Shay both looked nervous. Archer pulled himself up behind me.

"What happened?" Shay asked. "I think you should tell us why you always do what your father tells you to."

I glared at him. "Would you make me tell you if I said I didn't want to?"

Shay started to shake his head but Archer stepped in front of me. "If nobody else would, I'd do it."

I met his gaze. "I think it has something to do with a spell. I don't know for sure, but if he tells me to do something... I can't not do it unless someone or something stops me."

The raven flew up to my shoulder. "Your magic," he cawed.

I looked at it in surprise. Not only was this the first raven who could speak clear English that I'd met, he knew about my magic. "How did you know that?"

The raven made a sound almost like laughter. "I think you can figure that out."

   "Midnight Star?" I asked.

Shay, Archer, and Connor were staring at me like I was crazy, but I didn't take any notice.

The raven dipped his head. "I had to turn into a raven to keep myself alive. I need to stay this way if I want to live."

I smiled. I got the feeling that if I stayed with this little group I would be safe from almost everything.

Shay opened his mouth like he wanted to say something. Archer punched his arm. "Stay quiet," he hissed. "We've got enough problems as it is. Follow me."

I rolled my eyes and debated not following. However, the chances of someone noticing me not following were very high. I sighed and walked silently after the trio, Raven still sitting on my shoulder.
